Maura
Tierney on The View
Star:
Maura Tierney's character steps out to have a
smoke, but gets kidnapped by a street gang and has
to deal with this [they show a clip of Abby in
the car with the street gang] I like that
doctor. Please welcome Maura Tierney!
[the
audience claps and Maura comes out a shakes hands
with everyone from The View and then sits down
next to Star]
Joy: How
can you work on a show with death and dying when I
read that you're a hypochondriac? I don't get it.
Maura:
It's bad actually. Um, I just think I have a lot
of dieses all the time.
[laughter]
Elisabeth:
Do you look them up online? Cuz that's what I do
sometimes.
Maura:
Oh, I don't even need to. Someone just needs to
mention it.
Elisabeth:
And then you get it?
Maura:
yes.
Meredith:
What about the fainting guy on the bachelorette?
Maura:
What about the fainting guy! I'm wondering if he
skipped from 1 to 4 to fast and that's why he
fainted. Introduction, intimacy and he couldn't- ,
but that poor guy.
Joy:
Maybe he had low flow blood. Don't they feed them
on that show?
Meredith:
There's food, but I don't think anyone realizes
that its gonna take so long.
Maura:
How long is it? Am I allowed to ask that?
Meredith:
Sure, it probably- I didn't get home that day
until 8 in the mourning
Maura:
is that 24 hours?
Meredith:
When he fell it was probably 3am, maybe 4.
Maura:
He fainted on television
Meredith:
I know, I feel bad for him.
Joy: You
know what, they didn't have to put that in, they
could've-
Maura:
But, its good tv.
Elisabeth,
Joy, Star, & Meredith: yeah
[laughter]
Star:
Speaking of good tv, you've been Abby Lockhart now
for what? 5 seasons?
Maura:
yeah, this is my 6th.
Star: Ok
6th, now were in the 6th
season, you started out as a nurse, then you moved
to the medical student, then it really is intense
as Joy said and it kinda tests that medical
knowledge. If somebody in the audience screamed Is
there a doctor in the house! Would you have any
idea what to do?
[Maura makes
a face that kinda says she wouldn't & there's
laughing]
Maura: I
mean, [laughs] if somebody screamed is there a
doctor in the house, I'm afraid I might say yes,
which is dangerous, cuz like that's bad, but I
might say yes.
Joy:
but, you have learned some things.
Maura:
I've learned some things, but I-there are some
cast members I won't name names that really do
think they could do stuff.
Joy: Oh,
really?!
Star:
Noah
Maura:
yes, he does.
Star: I
know Noah
Maura:
He totally thinks- and so does Alex.
Elisabeth:
That's alittle scary.
Maura:
It is. They think they could intubate- both of
them think they could intubate, I could probably
sucher, um
Joy:
Really?
Star:
You bet you could stitch us up?
Maura: I
think if I had the right tools and enough time.
Elisabeth:
You know what? I like you, but I don't want you
stitching me up.
[laughter]
Maura:
you don't want me stitching you up, but like if
there was nobody else.
Joy: If
she[Elisabeth] had to get a
angioplasty
in the emergency you could do it!
[laughter]
Maura:
[laughing]: I could stitch it up, I
wouldn't want to make the incision.
Elisabeth:
I'm gonna pass out now.
[laughter]
Meredith:
Your using terms like sucher, so did they give
every cast member a dictionary full of medical
terms, is that right?
Maura:
yeah.
Meredith:
And do you have a favorite medical term?
Maura: I
have some favorites. I like the ones that are easy
for me to say. I like to say newmomedumstima, is a
word I like to say a lot, um I'm not exactly sure
what it means
[laughter]
Star:
What does stat mean?
Maura:
Stat means right away, I believe. But we don't say
that. Its so funny because lots of people make
that joke to me, but I don't think its ever been
said my whole 5 years.
Star:
What do they say when they say Get to the ER right
away?
Maura:
Get to the ER right away
[laughter]
Joy:
Code blue, isn't that code blue?
Maura:
Code blue? Oh, code red, we don't say, we just say
code. We don't say the colors.
Joy: If
your in a red state say code red, if your in a
blue state say code blue.
[laughter]
Elisabeth:
Its purple now, don't you know there all purple
now. Let me ask you this, in the 11th
season of ER a lot of doctors have left to pursue
movie careers, like George Clooney and you've
actually done a few yourself, how long do you
think you'll stay with ER?
Maura:
I'm definitely staying through the end of next
year, which is what ER is contracted through,
that'd be season 12 with the network and I don't
really know what will happen after that, its up to
John Wells, like you know does he want to extend
the show, it seems like they would.
Elisabeth:
Do you like tv better?
Maura: I
like my job a lot. I mean ER is a really fun place
to work, but its different. Its not sort of like
ones better then the other.
Joy: Why
do you name your dog Rose Kennedy I'd like to
know.
Maura:
So, she'll live forever.
Joy: Oh,
I see.
Maura:
Rose Kennedy was like wasn't she like a hundred-
Joy: 104
something like that.
Maura:
yeah, so-
Elisabeth:
That's a good idea.
Maura:
yeah. So far she's hanging in there.
Star:
So, wait a minute let me just go to something
sense, you jumped off the band wagon here.
[laughter]
Joy:
Sorry
Star:
I'm a big poker girl and I understand you were the
women, you won a 100 grand on Celebrity Poker
Showdown.
Maura: I
know, [picture of Maura on Celebrity Poker
Showdown appears on screen] for my charity.
Star:
Your that good?
Maura:
I'm not really, but I was that day, so that's all
that counts.
Star:
You've got a good poker face.
Maura: I
do, I mean are you a real poker player?
Star:
Actually, I enjoy playing, but I have the worse
poker face in all of America.
Maura:
So, you show if you get excited?
Star:
Hercules, Hercules, Hercules!
[laughter]
Star:
You gotta work with me backstage.
Maura:
yeah. The whole thing made me very tense actually,
it wasn't so much fun for me, I mean I was happy
to win, um but it was I don't know I have a hard
time gambling because I sort of feel guilty when I
win, I'm angry when I lose.
Elisabeth:
Your emotional.
Star:
Your charity lucked out on this one.
Maura:
Yes, that was really good.
Star:
Yeah, so we love that and so do we each and every
week and our thanks to Maura Tierney, ER airs on
Thursday nights, like you don't know that, check
your local listings for times.

interview]
