In the ambulance bay, Pratt is sending a patient home and sees Dr. Anspaugh leaving for a meeting.  He catches up to him and says he has been trying all week to get a meeting with him.  He explains that he feels Moretti isn’t fitting in well with the ER and proposes someone who knows the department and the staff – himself.  Anspaugh laughs and says he admires Pratt’s chutzpah.  He says that Moretti is a board certified for emergency medicine and that change is hard.  He tells Pratt to check with him again in a few years as he climbs into a cab and leaves.

Cut to Neela’s hospital room where she is mesmerized by the television which is expounding on the virtues of creating a lamp out of egg cartons.  Abby enters and tosses some magazines onto the bed, as well as a bag of gummy worms.  Neel pays her no heed so she says that Brad Pitt is waiting outside in the hall.  Hee.  She flips off the television and Neela tells her she is addicting to ‘Mornings with Phil and Tina.”  Abby tells her she will be going home tomorrow but Neela says today.  Her staples have been removed and her creatine is point 9.  Abby is checking out the flowers and the cards…as well as Neela’s catheter bag.  Hee.  Neela asked about Joe’s passport.  Abby sighs and tells her there are all these new rules and even an expedited passport will take four weeks.  She asks what time Neela will be getting out.  Neela tells her that Lucien wants her to take a week before she comes back to work.  Wonders what she will do at home.  Abby tells her “rest….recuperate…try to kick the Phil and Tina addiction.”  Abby’s pager beeps and she tells Neela she is late.  She leaves and Neela reaches for the controls to turn the television back on.

Cut to the ER admit desk. Moretti is moving around the circle of disgruntled ER staff telling them they will no longer board admitted patients in the hallways.  A patient in a near by bed is moaning and calling out to God.  Moretti is peeved.  Sam asks if the nurses upstairs know about the new directive.  Moretti looks at her and says “Sam, your hair is brown.”  She giggles and shifts.  Again we hear the patient calling out and singing to God.  Moretti says they will now do a full exam on every patient – clothes off.  Pratt protests and says he has to be kidding.  Moretti stares him down and says they will be doing more comprehensive protocol.  Grady asks Sam if they should help that guy.  Sam explains that Mr. Zucker come in every week with a hangover claiming to be dying.  Hope says he once offered to put her in his will if she gave him a sponge bath.  Moretti goes on about his new protocol directives and hands the paperwork to everyone at the desk.  He walks away as Morris asked Sam if they are practicing cookbook medicine now.  She asks why they don’t just hire trained monkeys to work the ER as she walks away.  In the background Mr. Zucker is still singing and calling out to God.  Frank asks Morris if he has any relatives in Bulgaria.  Chuny explains that Frank’s new hobby is genealogy and that he has found out she is descended from Spanish royalty.  Frank says he has found an Archibald Morrissinov in Plovdiv.  Morris says they probably aren’t related but asks him to check Venezuela.  He walks around Hope and pointedly says he might have a cousin operating a kidnapping ring.  Hope tells him blithely that crime is only a desperate cry of the poor.  Frank looks up and tells Gates they thought they were rid of him.  Gates (arrrgh! Dressed in a Luka blue button down and tie!!!) steps up to look over the desk and tells him he thinks he left his otoscope there.  Frank hands it to him and says he was about to sell it on eBay.   Gates tells him to stop pretending.  He knows that he misses him.  He heads down the corridor and is stopped by Abby.  She says that Neela is going home today.  He tries to step past and she tells him it’s his last chance to visit her.  He tries to step around and says he has visited her lots of times.  “Yeah…when she was unconscious,” Abby says. She tells him that it’s weird but stuff happened and he has to get over it.  Tony’s phone rings and he tells Abby its Sarah and he has to take it.  She watches him go and then heads for the admit desk.  She sees Moretti and turns away.  “Dr. Lockhart,” he calls.  “Nice of you to take time out of your busy schedule to join us.”  She says she was visiting a friend and he tells her he is instituting a new system and needs a volunteer….her.  He is putting her in the waiting room.  She corrects him with ‘triage.” And he says ‘No…waiting.”  It’s a chance to intervene at the earliest stage.  She is disgruntled and asks if he thinks this is the best use of…  “Open your eyes, Abby’ he says with a small sweep of his hand.  “Take a fresh look.”  She is peeved and he rolls his eyes as he crosses toward the mike.  “Bermie, this if God,” he says.  Bernie’s eyes widen as he stares up at the ceiling.  “Hurry it up already.” Moretti finishes.

The camera sweeps the busy waiting room.  Abby is examining the very dirty and very infected foot of a woman in a chair. She explains the treatment and asks if she is allergic to anything.  The woman responds that she doesn’t like cheese.  Abby tells her that’s fine.  Someone will be back soon to take her back and then they will see about some shoes.  The woman says she likes Jimmy Choos.  Another guy gets in Abby’s face and asks how long he has to wait there.  Abby settles him and then calls out ‘Carlos Vegas’.  A youngish Hispanic guy is sitting and his wife stands up with a baby in her arms.  She says he has been throwing up all night.  They think it’s something he ate.  Abby checks and says he has a fever so it’s probably not something he ate.  The wife is worried because he played with the baby all day.  He asks Abby how long they have to wait.  She stands up and hesitates.  Finally she says she will take him back right now.  She helps him to his feet and they follow her through the doors to the ER.

Cut to Pratt and Morris standing in front of a locker.  Pratt says ‘let’s do it’ but is clearly uncomfortable.  Morris opens the locker and leans back a bit as he surveys the contents.  Pratt says he was thinking about going to Baton Rouge to visit Ray.  Morris says he’ll go too.  The three of them can take in a Saint’s game.  Pratt pulls out a bottle of spray.  “Seaweed Scalp mist…” he laughs.  Morris chuckles and says that Ray was a little hair obsessed but that he has to admit, his lid always looked good.  They put some things in a box.  Morris stops and then pulls out a pair of tennis shoes.  He asks Pratt if he thinks they might be a size 9.  Pratt tells him not to go there but Morris says that Ray’s not going to be using them.  Pratt tells him to back away form the shoes.  He puts the shoes in the box.  Grady steps up and asks if the locker is available.  He hasn’t been assigned one.  Pratt and Morris are incensed.  They tell him the locker isn’t available.  It’s been retired.  Pratt gestures and tells him to use one of ‘those lockers over there’.  They leave a very confused Grady in their wake.

Morris asks Pratt what they can bring to dinner at Chez Pratt.  Pratt tells him wine…and that it was Bettina’s idea to do the double date thing.  Frank tells Pratt ‘MazelTov’…and announces that Pratt’s great great great great grandmother was an Ethiopian Jew.   Pratt scoffs but Morris says he is like County’s own Sammy Davis Jr.  He starts singing a Pratt version of ‘The Candy Man’.  Chuny and Dawn cross the desk area with Sam and are chiding her about wanting to get out and try to convince her to do the speed dating thing at Ike’s with them.  A conversation ensues with Pratt and Morris about the virtues of sitting for 6 minutes talking to a guy.  It’s all about ‘chemistry’, Chuny says.  They start teasing her about not wanting to go because she has her eye on someone else…Officer Lichtman.  Sam says he is cute but she would never date a cop.  As she heads for the ambulance entrance we see Pratt telling Frank he got the spelling if his grandfather’s name wrong.   The paramedics are pushing in a gurney with a 16 year old unrestrained MVC victim who was ejected from the vehicle.  A second victim is close behind.  Casey is struggling against the restraints and asks for Johanna.  He has a blunt head injury and is altered.  The second gurney has Johanna, a restrained victim from the vehicle.  She is 25 and is asking if Casey is all right.

Morris and Sam are working on Casey who is tachy and altered.  Morris scolds Hope for not jumping on the trauma.  Morris apologizes to her about earlier but he can’t stop thinking about the mosquito thing.  ‘Right,” she says ‘Mosquitoes love redheads.”  He tells her they will talk about it later in the evening.  Moretti steps to the door and scolds Hope for not having a gown on.  He tells her in the ICU they remove all of the ER lines because their rate of infection is so high.  Morris says he asked her to jump in because the kid was crashing.  Hope says that’s not true she was just…  Moretti interrupts and says ‘Spare me….just do it right.”  He goes into the next trauma room.  Pratt, Grady and Dawn are working on Johanna.  He asks how she is feeling and she asks about D=Casey.  She says it’s all her fault and she shouldn’t have let him drive.  Moretti asks if Casey is her brother and she says he is her student.  She is a Math Teacher at Edgewater.  She says he just got his license and begged her to go driving.  As Moretti examines her chest x-ray he says that his son was in Mathi Olympiad in high school but is now squandering his talents as a comp lit major at Brown.  Grady says he sees a little pneumo.  Pratt orders that they up the oxygen and prep her for a chest tube.  Moretti thinks it’s over kill.  Johanna is worried.  Pratt explains that part of her lung is collapsed and they need to insert a tube to inflate it.   Moretti cincedes and tells Pratt that it’s his patient.  Pratt rolls his eyes as Moretti leaves.

Cut to Abby examining Carlos in a curtain area.  She asks him to take off his shirt but he is reluctant.  Doesn’t want her to make a big deal as he needs to get to work.  Abby blithely tells him that HER boss is a real pain and won’t like it if she doesn’t do a thorough exam.  Carlos removes his shirt.  Abby asks about a bandage on his back and Elena, the wife, says that he got hurt at work.  Carlos says that she helped clean it out.  Abby removes the bandage to reveal a bullet wound.  Carlos grimaces in pain when she touches the edge of it.  This catches Moretti’s eye, who is working near by.  He steps up as Abby asks how it happened.  “Funny,” he says,  “This doesn’t look like the waiting room.”  He asks Carlos how he got himself shot.  Carlos says it was a drive by.  Abby asks when it happened and Carlos says three days ago.  Elena says he doesn’t like doctors when Abby asks why he didn’t come in then.  She says she will be right back and walks away with Moretti.  She says ‘a plain film to find out where the bullet is?” and he adds that she is to call the police.

Cut to Neela in her hospital bed looking through a magazine.  The door opens and Crenshaw and Dubenko enter.  Dubenko is limping and Neela asks what happened to him.  Field hockey, he says.  They tell her she can go home in a couple of hours and she said they said that four hours ago.  Crenshaw asks about voiding and passing gas.  Says she ‘no go home with out making a poo poo.”  Neela pointedly tells him her post operative ilieum is resolved.  Their pagers buzz and Dubenko says it’s the ER .  Crenshaw leaves.  Neela smiles at Dubenko and he stops at the door to smile back at her before he leaves.

Cut to new patient in an ICU bed.  He is 13 year old    and the ICU Dr. is chastising her interns about the tests they have – or have not – done on him.  Gates joins them and interrupts Dr. Shuster to tell her that Dr. Moretti sent him up there.  She chastises him for showing up 20 minutes late.  He says he was doing a follow up on a patient.  She tells him this is an ICU and people are dying.  She doesn’t have time to potty train ER rejects.  She tells him to get an MRI and call neuro because she wants a diagnosis before lunch.    Gates looks around and catches the eye of the kid in the bed.  He meanders over as the kid tells him ‘the boss lady ripped you a new one.”  Gates tells him that he is too young to know what flirting looks like.

Morris and Hope are still working on Casey AND arguing about not knowing Spanish.  Casey’s mom is led into the room and wants to know what happened.  As they struggle to maintain blood pressure and prepare to intubate him, Sam explains that he was in a car crash.  He hit a guard rail and flew 20 feet away.  The mom is confused because Casey doesn’t have a car and Sam says he came in with her, indicating Johanna in the next room.  Casey is V-tach and Hops says she has lost the pulse.  Morris starts compressions and Johanna watches anxiously from the room next door.  We cut to her room as Sam enters.  She asks about Casey and Sam says he is pretty sick.  Moretti comes in an asks how they are doing.  Pratt says she has a pneumothorax and the chest tube was a good move.  Moretti looks at the sonasite screen and points out a fetal heartbeat. Moretti asks if they ordered a blood test and Pratt says the lab was backed up.  “I’m pregnant?” Johanna asks in surprise.  Moretti tells Pratt that it looks like he wasn’t the only one in the dark as he walks out.

Abby and Dubenko are examining the x-ray for Carlos.  Dubenko says he needs the OR for wound debridment.  Franks tells Abby that her detectives are here.  Elena is agitated.  Abby tells her they are required to report all gun shot wounds.  Two detectives approach and ask about the location of the drive by.  They say they had no report of that but they do have a report of a hold up on another street.  Elena is upset and says he didn’t do anything.  Carlos tells her to call her mother to come and get the baby.  As she leaves the detectives go on to say that three Latino suspects got away but witnesses say one of them was wounded.  Abby is taking notes as the detectives say that the store owner is in a coma but Carlos is clear if his bullet doesn’t match the gun.  Carlos swallows hard and looks at Abby.

Moretti is working with Pratt ands Dawn on Johanna.  Pratt wants a CT scan but Moretti says it’s too much  radiation.  Johanna is concerned about the baby and Pratt says they need to be concerned with her right now.  Moretti takes him aside and tells him to do an ultrasound to check her kidneys instead.  Pratt says there is no way he can get an ultrasound quickly enough.  Moretti tells him he is a resourceful guy…make it happen.  Sam says they need some help next door and Johanna is distraught about Casey.  As Moretti enters the trauma room, Morris is shocking Casey.. His mother is standing near by.  Moretti asks how many round of meds he has been given and then tells Morris to stop.  He says they are hoping for a miracle.  Hope is doing compressions.  Sam says that he is just a kid and Moretti says that he is aware of that.  He tells the mom to come to him and then draws her around the gurney to face Morris.  Morris is clearly angry as he gently tells the mom they have been trying to restart his heart.  The mom says they have to keep going but Morris says that he is too severely injured.  He tells her that he is going to stop CPR now and the mother falls apart.  She cries as Hope steps back and caresses his head as the monitor flat lines.  Johanna sees what is happening from the next room and begins to cry.  Morris and Moretti exchange glances.

Cut to the ICU ward and Gates sitting close to Joshua as they work on a Sudoku puzzle book.  Joshua is grilling Gates, who is trying to ignore him as he makes suggestions for his puzzle. The kid tells him that he needs to learn how to play the game…the game of life.   Joshua asks if his father abused him when he was a kid.  He says it’s a common root in adults with authority and ego issues.  ‘Thank you Dr. Freud,” Gates responds and the kid laughs.  He tells him he is actually more Jungian…and then chortles when he realizes that Gates has no idea what he is talking about.  Gates says the kid is starting to freak him out.  Joshua tells Tony that he is in college at UofC and stands out at frat parties.  Tony admits that he is having trouble finding out where he fits in….and that the kid is right about him and his dad.  Joshua studies him for a second or two and then tells him that if he wants to impress the ICU types..three words….Fazio-Londe disease.  It’s a neurological condition with no cure.  Gates asks if this is what he thinks he has and Joshua tells him not think…knows.  Gates asks why his mother didn’t tell anyone when he was admitted and Joshua says he hasn’t told her yet.

Abby is walking past the desk where Pratt is in the phone with someone in radiology.  Chuny walks by with a piece of equipment and asks if she wants to get in on a detached retina.  Abby says she has to get back to waiting because Mussolini was not happy to see her out of her cage. Hee  Elena hurries to catch up with her and wants to talk.  She tells Abby that Carlos doesn’t want the surgery on his back.  Abby takes her into a private room and Elena tells Abby that Carlos was in the deli where the robbery took place but he was just buying milk.  Abby doesn’t want to hear it but Elena insists.  He was shot trying to stop the robbery but won’t go to the police because the people that did it live in their neighborhood.

Bettina is doing an ultrasound on Johanna and says that her kidneys are intact.  She thinks the blood in her urine is minor and says that if it isn’t clear in an hour they will do an IVP like Moretti suggested.  She leaves and Casey’s mother bursts into the trauma room. She tells Johanna that she molested her son.  An argument ensues and then Johanna tells her that it is HER fault Casey is dead.  He says the blood on her head from an earlier fight and was rushing her to the hospital for treatment.  She tells the mom she has to stop hating her because she is having Casey’s baby.  The mom is stunned as she is pulled from the room.

Abby is talking to Casey and Elena.  She says they need to talk to the police and hope the store owner wakes up and can validate their story.  Abby tells them to get a lawyer but Carlos says the law doesn’t work for people like them.  Abby asks if he understands that the bullet could paralyze him.  He says he knows that.   He will take his chances.  Cut to Abby walking the corridor and explaining the situation to Dubenko..  He asks if they understand the risks and Abby says they do.  They approach the detectives who say they are getting a court order so the surgery can proceed.  Abby tells them that patients have rights and they are not doing it.  The detectives say the court order is on it’s way.  Dubenko says fine and tells Abby to get Carlos ready.  She is incensed and Dubenko asks what she thinks they can do.  She says they can put him on antibiotics, talk to Legal and get the press involved.  Dubenko tells her that is high handed and that he knows they will get the surgery done somewhere and he’d just as soon it be there with someone that can do it.  He tells Abby that she is off the case from this point on and to basically butt out.

Gates is walking with Dr. Shuster and telling her about Fazio-Londe.  He tells her that neuro is doing a biopsy that afternoon.  Dr. Shuster congrats him for being proactive and Gates enters Joshua’s room.  Joshua deducts from Dr. Shuster’s look that the subterfuge worked.  Gates says it did and wants to know how he figured it out.  He describes his first symptoms and says he had a grad student in neurophysiology do a muscle biopsy on the DL.  He won’t tell his mom because it will ruin her life.  She will do anything to keep him a live and dying is inevitable.  Gates tells hi that he has to tell her and asks if he wants him to be there.  Joshua says no…he will tell her that night.  Wow.  Awesome juvenile actor.

Abby is back in the waiting room and pulls a bloody bandage off a little kid’s hand.  He says that Killer did it.  Chuny asks what kind of dog they have and the mom says that Killer is a gerbil.  Hee.  Abby tells Chuny to give him some antibiotics and bandage the wound.  She turns to another woman sitting in chairs who says she is just there to breathe in the therapeutic County air.  Abby tells her to knock herself out and then tells Chuny that the guy in a chair across the room hasn’t moved…all day.  Chuny says he’s probably  a drunk sleeping it off.  Abby approaches and tries to wake him.  At one point she pleads with him not to be dead. She takes his glasses off and sees that one eye is very dilated and the other is not.  She calls for a gurney.

Cut to Moretti studying Abby and Chuny in a trauma room as they work on the guy from the waiting room.  He says the drunk with the sunglasses wasn’t a drunk after all.  A classic example of availability bias.  Abby says she has no idea what that means but she is sure he is going to tell them.  Hee.  He explains that the waiting room is always full of drunk and sleeping people and Chuny assumed that he was a drunk.  She says she feels bade enough already.  Abby tubes the guy and instructs a nurse to call for a vent.  Moretti tells her it was a good pick up and to  finish up and get back ingot he waiting room because it’s obvious she is needed there.   Abby and Chuny exchange glances and Abby tells to call CT to tell them they are on their way up.

Cut to Morris and Hope in an exam room.  He is going on about no ozone in the tropics and their skin melting off.  Hope tells him that he has said enough.  She gets that he doesn’t want to go.  She will go alone.  It’s a  once in a lifetime opportunity.  He is stunned.  He wants them to be together.  He’ll miss her.  She tells him that it’s only for six months.  She walks away and Frank calls him to the desk.  He asks if Morris knows that his girl, Hope there, is descended from a tribe of gypsy whores.  Morris tells him that he obviously doesn’t have enough to do around there.  Pratt looks up and shakes his head.  Chuny and Dawn ask Pratt if he has seen Sam.  They are on their way to Ikes to ‘premedicate’ before the speed dating session.  Pratt says he could use a drink and Morris says he will bring some extra wine tonight.  Frank adds that his people are lovers of the fruit of the vine.  Pratt calls them a ‘pain in the tuchis’.

Elena is sitting in the surgical waiting room and Abby gets off the elevator.  Elena tells her there hasn’t been any news.  She says they shouldn’t have made him have the surgery and she knows Abby tried to fight it.  Dubenko approaches and tells Elena that Carlos is fine and has full use of his lower extremities.  He is going to take her to see him and asks Abby to walk along.  He tells Elena that it was a weird thing.  There was a bleeder and the tray tipped over in surgery.  The bullet just vanished.  The cop has been searching the operating room for an hour.  Elena goes in to her husband .  “Vanished, huh?” Abby says.  “Yeah…really weird,” Dubenko adds as he walks away.

Moretti and Pratt are in Johanna’s trauma room and Pratt tells her that the kidneys look fine and the blood is clearing from her urine.  No surgery.  The baby is fine as there was no CT and no radiation.  Johanna is relieved.  Moretti signs her chart and turns to leave.  Pratt follows him and tells him thank you.  His idea was the way to go.  Moretti tells him that maybe next time he will think twice before selling him out to Anspaugh and trying to steal his job.  Pratt tires to say that he wasn’t trying to steal his job but Moretti interrupts and tells him not to lie.  It belittles them both.  Pratt sighs and turns back to Johanna.  He tells her that he is going to see when her bed will be ready.  Johanna stops him by saying that he thinks she is a terrible person.  Pratt says he was a kid and she was his teacher.  She says she is only nine years older than him and in a few years no one would have cared.  Pratt tells her that she needs help.  Johanna says that Casey’s mom sowed up at her house and told her to stay away from him.  They got in a fight and she hit her head.  She called Casey and he was driving her to the hospital.  ‘If only she had of left us alone,” she says.  She looks through the glass into the next room where his mother and Sam are standing next to Casey’s body.

Sam takes a necklace off Casey’s neck and hands it to his mother.  The camera closes in on Sam’s face as Casey’s mom says they have been having a tough time.  He would close himself off and not talk to her.  But things were beginning to get better.  They were talking again.  Sam has a hard time holding it together and quietly exhales.

Gates is striding down the hall taking to his lawyer about his custody suit for Sarah.  He stops in front of Joshua’s door and closes off the call as his mother approaches.  She introduces herself and says that Joshua has been raving about him.  As their conversation continues, Gates looks back at Joshua who will not meet his eye.  It’s obvious that he has not told his mother about his disease.  She thinks he has pneumonia.  She has to go sign something for the clerk.  She tells gates not to let her kid run the place.  He has that kind of personality.  Gates nods and heads for Joshua’s room.  Joshua tells he can’t see the look on her face when she realizes that he is going to die.  He asks Gates to tell her.

Chuny, Sam and Dawn are walking on the street in front of Ike’s.  Sam is nervous but dawn tells her to shake it off because it’s going to be fun.  Ike’s is WAY crowded with people and they make their way to the bar.  Dawn decides they are the hottest girls in the place and Chuny likes the numbers.  Wouldn’t it be nice if they met their soul mates?  Sam says she would settle for a nice guy and a nice date.  They toast to falling in  love…..and sex without batteries.  Hee.  A bell rings and they are off to their tables.

Cut to Neela in a wheel chair and Abby is pushing her toward the elevator.  Abby suggests that she stay with them until she gets better.  Just while Luka is out of town.  Neela  wouldn’t want her to feel that she has to wait on her hand and foot.  ‘Believe me, that will never happen,” Abby smiles as the elevator doors close.  When they open again Abby is telling her it will just be she, her and Joe as she wheels her into he ambulance bay.  It’ll be fun.  It’s been so quiet with Luka gone.  Neela says she supposes Joe needs to get to know his Auntie Neela.   She asks if Luka isn’t coming home soon.  Abby says she hopes so but it’s taking longer than they thought it would.  He misses them but he’s is happy in Croatia.  He’s comfortable there.  She can hear it in his voice.  Neela finally agrees and Abby brightens.  She opens the taxi door and tells her that Joe’s nanny will let her in and there is some leftover Thai food in the fridge and she will be home soon.  Neela is happy as the door closes and the cab pulls out.  Abby turns the wheel chair toward the ER as Moretti is striding out.  He tells her the waiting room looks like a ghost town.  She did a good job today.  She tells him it was a pleasure.  He says he is glad she enjoyed it because she will be there again tomorrow.  “Good night, Abby,” he says as he turns to leave.  He is grinning and she has a disconcerned look as she watches him.  The two detectives of earlier call her name and she puts her hands on her hips as they approach.

Cut to Pratt’s apartment.  He and Bettina are preparing dinner and chatting about her very distinguished 78 year old bridge partner knowing what a shallot is.  Pratt asks her what the thing she is cutting is and she says ‘an onion’ with a laugh..  He laughs as the door bell rings and moves to answer it.  A grumbled Morris enters with a bottle of wine and a loaf of challa.  He tells them Hope isn’t coming.  She is sick….of him.   He says he shouldn’t stay and doesn’t want to burden them.  Bettina tells him not to be silly.  Morris says he doesn’t have any appetite anyway….and proceeds to eat the food that is laid out on the counter.

There is a ding and the man sitting across the table from Sam tells her he has built a time machine in his garage.  The bell rings and he puts a finger to his lips as he stands up.  The second guy says he really plans on sticking with women this time.  The third guy is very old and very…um…Undistinguished…and asks Sa m what is the oldest guy she has ever balled.  She is very frustrated when we see the back of someone who sits down and says that he heard she doesn’t date cops.  Sam looks up into the laughing face of Officer Litchman.  She can see Chuny and Dawn giggling and waving to her behind him.   He wants to know what she has against Chicago’s finest.   They have a short conversation in which she admits that in her line of work she sees a lot of ‘you guys’ coming in  hurt, shot…killed.  His grin doesn’t fade when he says she would worry about him.  Then he says he would worry about her because he sees the kind of people that come in to County…drunks…drug seekers… pretty dangerous place.  He thinks maybe he shouldn’t date a nurse.   They both smile at one another and are disappointed when the bell dings again.  He asks her if she likes Italian.  They get up to leave together.  (He’s cute but WHY can’t they find a hottie for Sam that can actually act??)

Morris is using his finger to get the frosting from a plate and is going on and on about Hope leaving.  Bettina listens as Greg tells hi he has to let her go.  It’s her thing and he has to respect that.  Morris worries that she will meet a hunk humanitarian type while she is gone.  Pratt tells him to trust her.  Pratt’s rationalizing and clear thinking as he counsels Morris is not lost on Bettina.

Abby catches up with Dubenko in the hospital corridor and tells him that the police found a gun and the exact amount of money from the robbery in Carlos and Elena’s apartment.  Dubenko shakes his head and says that you would think after all the years of doing this they would get a handle on people.  He adds that the reality is that everyone manipulates in order to get what they want.  He pulls a plastic bag out of his pocket with the missing bullet.  He is going to call the detectives.  Amazing that it was lodged in the crevice of the anesthesia tray.  Abby says good night and then turns in time to see the police leading a handcuffed Elena to the elevator.  She turns and as the doors close she lifts her chin defiantly at Abby.

Gates sidles up to the open door of Joshua’s room.  He is asleep and his mother is seated at his side.  She looks up and tells Tony that the antibiotics seem to be working.  Tony tells her there is something he needs to tell her and sits on the stool next to her.  The camera pans back as we see them talking. Gates tells her that Joshua has a neuromuscular disease that affects the muscles and part of the brain that help him to breathe and to swallow. She is stunned and begins to cry as she reaches out to caress the boy’s head.  The camera pans back and fades to black.
