Abby and Luka (both looking totally
hot in black turtle necks) at home in a little tiff because Abby has called a
patient at home and left a message for him. Guess which patient.....
Tony is packing his room and Meg is talking to him about telling Sarah that he
is leaving. He promises to do it that night.
Ray and Gates are looking over the patient board and commiserating over the
lack of trauma patients. Sam says the chopper is bringing in two boys from a
snowmobile accident. They hightail it for the elevator and begin assessing the
15 year old boy. Paramedic says the older brother carried the kid a mile to
the road to get help. Arguing over who should go to the roof for the next one,
Luka comes along and tells them both to go. He and Abby take over the more
critical victim.
Gates is that the home of Edgar Dixon, his deceased church clinic patient. The
Reverend is there and waxing poetic over the deceased. Pratt extends his
condolences to the widow and leaves. The Rev follows him out and tells him the
state medical board called him and he told them to go to hell. He tells Pratt
they really have no case and Pratt tells him they do...and they need to stop
the clinic. The Rev says he isn’t going to do that and Pratt walks away.
Abby and Sam are working on the more critical - and younger - snowmobile
accident victim and their banter is very tenses. Abby wants to put in a chest
tube and Luka tells her to wait. She is peeved.
Ray and Gates are sparring over a surgical consult on the older boy.
Luka tells Sam to pass the chest tube tray to Abby and Abby looks at him. SHE
wanted to do it 15 minutes before. Sam says “ Looks like Abby was right...Luka
confirmed the diagnosis radio graphically...Nice work team.” They both ignore
her and Ben rolls his eyes.
Gates is calling for a surgical consult in the hall and sees a very cool
acting Neela approach. He is teasing her and she reminds him that the last
time they saw one another the woman he lives with practically assaulted her
and her daughter called her a whore.”
Abby is taking the kid up for an x-ray ‘in case he crashes’. Luka stalks out
of the trauma room. Ben says that it was a little uncomfortable and Sam
agrees. She says it’s more proof that workplace romances don’t work. Tells him
his kiss caught her off guard but she has a rule about getting involved with
anyone from work.
The step dad steps into the trauma room where Ray is working on the older boy.
Reams him out and tells him that ‘Clark had better be all right’ and that he
is going to be with his son.
Grandma Gracie brings a sullen and reluctant Alex to the admit desk. They are
there to sign Alex up for the volunteer program. Alex doesn’t need a
tour...knows the place better than Ben. Ben takes a firm grip on the back of
Alex’s jacket and drags him off. Grandma Gracie is very impressed. Tells
‘Sammy’ she needs to go after that one....that all the women in their family
are the same - ‘very fertile, allergic to chestnuts, prone to bladder
infections and have the same damn gene that predisposes them to bad
boys.”...LOVE Grandma Gracie.
Ray confronts Neela about having sex with Gates and she says it is not true
and NONE of his business. Gates comes out of trauma room and says they might
need to consult Kovac. Neela and Gates both say “NO!’ just as Pratt
approaches. He listens to the case and tells Gates that it was not his call.
That Ray is a step up.
Pratt snags Luka to see if he has talked to Angela about his clinic patient
yet. Luka says that she said she would look into it. Timmy tells Abby has
hasn’t gotten anything from the patient she has been waiting to hear from.
Abby and Luka exchange looks and then Abby moves off to take a patient who was
hit in the mouth with a hockey puck. Abby asks Pratt if he wants a ‘piece of
this?’ Pratt looks at Luka in surprise and then follows Abby. Luka watches
them go with Timmy by his side and then the two of them exchange looks. Timmy
is quite discerned with him.
Ray and Dennis - the older snowmobile victim - have a chat about being in an
unhappy step situation. Dennis likes Clark a lot...Dad is strict on him and
Dennis lets him do things the dad wouldn’t like. Did not say that Clark was
driving the snowmobile because the dad would get made at him. Better to keep
Clark out of trouble.
Abby and Pratt are working on their hockey puck guy when Angela comes in and
asks Pratt to meet with her at 4 about the clinic situation. Abby over hears
that it was Pratt who dispensed the meds. She is clearly upset and tries to
talk to him but is interrupted.
Alex and Grandma return from signing up to volunteer and Alex is even more
sullen. He smarts off a couple of times and Grandma says they need to head on
home.
Pratt and Ray are talking in the ambulance bay as they wait for an ambulance.
Pratt asks if Ray wants his advice and Ray tells him no...he did that
already....left her alone......long enough for her to start seeing someone
else. Alex comes out the ambulance bay doors and kicks a trash can. He smarts
off to Grandma and she slips him. He slaps her back and she grabs his face in
her hands and tells him that if he ever hits her, his mother or any woman ever
again she will break every bon in his sullen little body. Hee.... Pratt and
Ray are watching and Pratt nods and says ‘Grandma’s got game....’ Lily calls
Ray in because his snowmobile kid isn‘t doing so well.
Sam is on the floor in the break room picking up a stack of files. Ben comes
in and they sit at a table and he tells that he was raised by a single mom as
well. He was delinquent kid of trouble for about 10 years but is now best
friends with his mom. He tells Sam it will happen for her as well.
Abby is looking for Pratt when Gates asks for help with a frozen jaw on a
‘professional’. A couple of sexual innuendos that fall kind of flat here. Abby
is checking the patient out when Sam enters with a very agitated Sarah. She
tells him she went up into his room and saw all of his boxes. Sarah turns and
runs and Abby tells him to go ahead and go. She cracks the patients’ jaw and
asks if she is okay.
Sarah is stalking through the ambulance bay and Gates stops her. She is very
angry and when Gates follows her and tries to stop her she yelps that he isn’t
her dad and he says that he is her friend. She stops...and then presses her
forehead against his chest and cries.
Ray and Neela are dealing with the snowmobile kid.
Gates and Sarah are in the break room. He giggles her out of her anger and
they have a serious talk about him moving out. Meg appears outside the door
and Sarah is pissed that he called her. Gates says that she was worried.
Abby catches up with Pratt in the hall and says she is the one that called the
state board about the church clinic. Apologizes. Thought it was being run by a
quack doctor. They go to the admit desk and two detectives are waiting to talk
to Pratt. Luka says that he has called Angela and she is on her way down.
Pratt says it’s okay and takes the detectives to another room. Timmy
approaches and hands Abby a message that she has been waiting for. She rounds
the desk and asks Luka if he is jealous. They head toward the break room
together and are pissy with one another before they realize that Kerry is
there cleaning out her locker. Luka looks at her and then Abby and then
leaves. Abby hangs her jacket in the locker and tells Kerry they are at odds
about a patient. Abby watches her for a moment and then says she can’t believe
that she is leaving. Kerry says it’s scary but also exciting. They stumble
over one another trying to say something and Abby finally says, “You have seen
me at my best....and at my worst....You have taken me from a nurse to a med
student to a doctor.....to a mom. I am going to miss you.” Kerry counters with
‘ You have always been there as a nurse and a doctor....and mostly as my
friend.” Aww...they hug....and then Abby asks if guys do this when one of them
leaves. Kerry says that she heard Carter cried like a baby when he left.
Hee...
Meg, Sarah and Gates are walking through the ambulance bay talking about
growing up and moving on.. Gates assures Sarah that he will be around for
her....and she asks if she can stay the night at his new place. Nice, nice
scene. Fun. As they walk away, gates says ‘eeehh....’ and Sarah turns around
and runs to him for a hug. He kisses her and calls her ‘baby girl’ as Meg
glances back with a sad smile.
Ray, fresh from a confrontation with Neela and Gates has it out with the
snowmobiler dad. Tells him he better shape up and treat his stepson better
because one day he is going to be bigger than him and will kick his a$$. He
stalks away. Way too personal here. Something about Ray’s history...I am sure.
Pratt is being interrogated by the detectives.
Kerry approaches Ray at the admit desk and tells him she may have robbed the
rock world by keeping him there but he was going to be a great doctor. He asks
if they should hug or kiss or something and she holds her hand out for a
shake.
Pratt is escorted down the hall with his hands in cuffs...on his way to jail.
Sam approaches her apartment door with a bag of groceries and unlocks the
door. Grandma Gracie is holding court with Ben and an elderly neighbor guy.
Ben says Gracie invited him for dinner and she says she is making fish and
chips. The neighbor leaves and Grandma says Alex is in his room doing
homework.
Abby approaches Eddie, who is shooing pool in a smoky bar. She gives him the
rundown on his deteriorating lung condition and he seems oblivious...and kind
of rude. Tells her enough with the dr. stuff...he wasn’t coming to see her
about that anyway. He reaches out and brushes the hair from the side of her
face and she freezes and then stalks out. Eddie follows her out into the
street and she tells him to stay away. He tells her that it’s not what he
thinks.....that he lied to her...his name isn’t Jackson....it’s
Wyczenski....he is her father. Abby freaks and pushes toward the street to
hail a cab. He follows and tells her that he was curious and tracked Maggie
down about three years ago and caught up on her and Eric....and then Maggie
started screaming......that he found out then Abby was a nurse in a Chicago
hospital...that a nurse at the triage desk pointed her out to him once...and
that when she came into the bar one thing led to another and he just wanted to
know her more. ‘After 30 years?” she asks. He was afraid she would tell him to
go away. She tell him he was right and to GO away. He tries to stop her but as
she climbs into the cab she tells him that he doesn’t get to do this....it’s
not fair.
Kerry is leaving through the ambulance bay and Luka catches up with her. She
says she was hoping to say good bye to Pratt and Luka tells her that he is on
his way to bail him out. He stops Kerry and tells her that she hired him to
work there and changed his life.....maybe even saved it. He didn’t know where
he would be right now if he hadn’t found this place. He holds out his hand to
shake hers and she sets her box down. “Come here, you big Croat,” she says and
they hug. Luka lifts her off her feet and grins. He sets her down again and
she picks up her box. She tells him not to get too caught up in
politics...that it’s a good hospital and it’s all about the people and the
medicine. Luka nods and smiles. As they turn away from one another she stops
and calls back. He turns. “Take care of this place for me,” she says. He grins
and nods.
Pratt is locked behind bars.
Sam and Ben are sitting on a couch after dinner. They are talking and Sam
invites him to spend the night. He asks if Gracie and Alex would care. Sam
nods a bit and blows out the candle. She smiles and takes his hand as they
leave the living room. Alex is drawing an intricate typical preteen drawing as
he lays on his bed. He looks up as he hears muffled noises and then shakes his
head.
Gates and Neela are at her place. He is looking at ads for apartments. He
teases her about sharing the cost of a place with him. His cell rings and it’s
Sarah. She is hysterical. Says her mom is sick and she can’t wake her up. She
has no idea where they are because they are in the car. Cut to Sarah shaking a
comatose Meg behind the steering wheel and Tony trying to talk to Sarah on the
phone.
Alex meanders through a darkened living room and plops onto the couch to watch
an M-TV type show. He fiddles with a match and lights one. He drops it into
the wine glass and watches the flames, a bit mesmerized. He picks up the
glass...which is now hot...burns himself and drops the glass. The flames
spread in a wide swath across the coffee table and he is still - panic
stricken.
Abby carries a crying Joe into the apartment in a baby carrier. She is talking
to him , apologizing and crooning. She sets the carrier on the table and
watches him as she picks up the phone and dials. She calls Luka and tells him
to pick up the phone.....she has picked Joe up from Ellen’s and she is home
and to please call her as soon as he gets this message because it’s kind of
urgent. She pulls Joe’s hat off and then picks him up from the carrier and
pats his back. She turns around and is startled to see Curtis Ames seated on
the couch across the room. He tells her quietly - and deadly - to call her
husband. She says that she did but he is not picking it up. He tells her to
call him again.
