Abby and Luka treat
a patient, but have somewhat of a Thanksgiving turkey discussion while doing
so. The transport pager goes off 10 minutes before Abby is due to finish her
shift and tries to get Jane to take it but she won’t. She tells Jane that she
just wants to spend Thanksgiving with her son, but Jane won’t let up. She
tries to get Ray to take it but he can’t due to Pratt thinking Ray is using
too much of the ER’s time for transports. Greg tells everyone that he is
taking Morris’s shift to spend time with his kids. He asks Kerry what her
excuse is and she explains that Henry went to Florida with his grandparents
and she had nothing else better to do. Doris brings in Lulu, who has abdominal
pain and vomiting. Jane introduces herself, but Gates sweeps in and steals the
patient. Gates looks at Lulu and asks if she is okay, however Lulu vomits
cranberries all over Jane.
Abby instructs Luka on the turkey, and
heads out. An officer stops by to talk with Luka, letting him know that he went
to see Curtis about following Abby and Joe to the park. The officer defends
Curtis saying he’s had a tough time with everything that’s happened. The pilot
of the helicopter asks Abby if she’s afraid of heights or gets airsick, all of
which Abby laughs off. Gates checks Lulu over, and a cleaned up Jane joins the
exam. Gates hands off his orders to Sam and says hello to Alex who is visiting.
Neela enters admit asking Gates what the four pages in a half hour was all
about. He replies that nothing is wrong, but as he continues to tell her that he
has numerous consults she needs to see. She asks him if he is just trying to
keep her down in the ER, but he smoothly tells her he wouldn’t think of wasting
her time. They walk into the suture room and Gates asks her why she has to look
so hot all the time. Feeling slightly embarrassed, Neela excuses herself. Abby
arrives at a hospital to pick up her transport. The family describes how their
mother just collapsed after carving their turkey. Abby realizes that the patient
is not stable and probably won’t make it to County. The other flight medic
explains to Abby that all their job entails is to ‘scoop and run’. Ray escorts a
blind Mr. Hunter who had fallen on some ice after giving his wife a ride on
their tandem bicycle. Sam presents a migraine patient who only seems to get the
headaches every year after eating her mother’s stuffing. They walk back to
admit, chatting about what Thanksgiving was like for them as kids. Sam remarks
at least Ray has something hot waiting for him at home. Confused, Ray looks at
her. Sam asks if he’s missing his cell phone. She explains they called his cell
and Katey answered. He explains they were just studying together, but Sam calls
his bluff. After talking to the family, Abby seems to be having a hard time
making them understand that their mother is not going to make the flight to
County. The other flight medic makes it known that they are taking her and they
would be at County in 45 minutes. Abby stays true to her feeling that the mother
won’t make it, but they load her into the chopper anyways.
As the flight medic prepares to devour his
wrapped up Thanksgiving dinner, the mother’s vitals dive. Neela sees Lulu, but
walks off to talk with Gates. Lulu sees Alex handing out cookies, and asks for
one. She goes to take a bite, but Sam catches her. Gates informs Lulu that her
mother consented for them to do an abdominal CT. She asks why her mother didn’t
want to talk to her. Neela tells her that her mother is on her way. She
inadvertently asks Alex to come with her to get the test done, and he agrees.
Abby shocks the mother, with no change. The mother dies before they can land. A
girl with a Christmas tree star stuck in her stomach is brought in. It comes to
light that she had fallen into a Christmas Nativity display while trying to rush
a sale at a mall. The other granddaughter tries to give her sister the handbag
she got at one of the sales; the grandmother swipes it and runs. Still in
flight, a medevac dispatcher asks if they are able to help with a rollover. The
crew simply ignores the dispatcher, but Abby tries to sway them to at least tell
dispatch where they are in reference to the rollover. The other flight medic
looks at her annoyed. Crenshaw begins to remove the star from the granddaughter,
but is more distracted by what Jane is telling the patient about fighting
overpriced purses. Crenshaw seems visibly turned on after hearing Jane’s rant,
while Greg exits laughing. While the crew looks out for the rollover, they
realize it’s not a vehicle rollover; it’s a bus rollover. Abby gets lowered down
to the scene.
As Abby lands on the ground, it’s apparent
she is in over her head. People escape the bus by the dozens, with various
injuries. She takes off her gear and starts assessments. The other medic starts
instructing her on what to do with masses like this and tosses her a medical
kit. One patient approaches her telling her it won’t stop. Abby takes a look and
sees a stream of blood launch from his arm. Another woman calls her over to a
man whose leg is visibly twisted. Abby’s eyes move to the top of the flipped
over bus and sees a boy who’s calling for help. Abby heads inside the bus to see
if she can help the boys mother, Melanie, who’s trapped under a coach seat. Abby
tries to free Melanie but can’t due to the seats weight. Blood begins to pool
away from her body and Abby tells the mother that she’s not sure where it’s
coming from. Abby tells her that she can’t move her, and she asks for Abby to
take her son out. The boy refuses, and keeps trying to budge the seat. As the
bus teeters over the edge of a ravine, Melanie begs for Abby to get her son,
Milo, out of the bus. Abby grabs the boy and heads out. Lulu goes for her
procedure and as it’s ending, Alex is there to see her. Alex’s cell goes off and
he makes a remark about her always calling. Lulu tells him that her mother
loaded her into the ambulance and went back to her dinner. Gates and Neela talk
in the back room. He tells her that him and Meg are done and Neela looks at him
unphased. She spots something on the CT, and calls Crenshaw. Abby takes Milo off
to the side and hands him a flashlight. She tells him she needs him to shine the
light wherever she is working and he asks if his mother will be saved. She says
the fire department is on their way and can help get her out better than she
can. The fire marshal tells Abby that no one was getting on that bus until it
was stabilized. She explains the mother on the bus doesn’t have that long and
Milo runs back with everyone chasing after him. Abby gets Milo to go with the
other medic and decides she’s going to go get the mother. As she is trying to
give Melanie some pain medication, the bus shakes and falls a little more. Abby
sees that Melanie has her eyes shut, and quickly revives her by asking her to
tell her more about Milo. The other medic slowly lowers himself in and tells
Abby she is out of her mind. He also brings an inflatable device to lift the
seat that is on top of Melanie. Ray calls Katey about his cell, while Crenshaw
asks about Jane. Sam asks Malik if he has seen Alex. Medics bring in a young
woman who was doing ‘nitrous’ shots out of whip cream containers. She tells Ray
that she got a little lightheaded and fell down the stairs. Abby and the other
medic put Melanie on a backboard and try to get her out of the bus. Just as the
other medic gets out the bus begins tipping quickly. The two run off the end and
turn to watch the bus slide down the cliff.
Gates asks Alex for a cookie, and tells him that Sam is
looking for him. Neela comes in to tell Alex that Lulu is out of surgery. Neela
tells Gates that she has to get to the roof to receive one of the critical bus
patients. Gates follows her out and tells her that she is coming home with him.
Kerry and her new friend, Courtney are in the lounge when Greg interrupts their
pie sharing. Courtney excuses herself to make a call, and Greg asks if he could
ask Kerry a question. He asks her when she knew that she was gay. He shares with
her how he found his brother with another guy in his apartment. Kerry helps Greg
make sense of his brother’s actions, and makes Greg realize that his brother
being gay is not the end of the world. Abby arrives back in the ER. The other
flight medic asks her to sign off on their run. As she watches him leave, she
spots the elderly mothers family waiting. She goes to give them the news of
their mothers passing. Neela arrives at Gates’ apartment. He tells her that he
couldn’t pull a turkey for dinner, but that he made tacos instead. Acting rather
nervously, Neela gulps down a glass of wine. While Neela is nattering on, Gates
kisses her. Katey brings Ray a plate of goodies and his cell phone. She tells
him that she started an ER rotation that evening and Ray seems a freaked out.
Luka and Joe meet up with Abby before she can leave. Gates and Neela are having
a passionate moment on the couch when both of them can hear Sara’s voice. Both
Meg and her daughter walk in on them. Sam tells Alex that she will take him out
for chicken but when she enters the lounge, she is a little surprised to see
everyone having a Thanksgiving buffet. Luka wishes her and Alex a Happy
Thanksgiving and tells them to grab a plate. Abby says she can’t believe Luka
made all the food, and he admits he cheated a little. Abby asks Luka certain
questions about Joe in case anything ever happened to her. Crenshaw updates Abby
on Melanie, and Luka asks her how the transport went. She looks around and tells
him it’s Thanksgiving and she would tell him about it the next day. Greg ends
the episode by toasting ‘Chef Luka.’
