Pratt comes into the ER, Jerry Chuny, Ray, Morris, and Kerry are at the desk. Today is a private grave side ceremony for Gallant, only family are attending. Pratt is going because Neela needs someone to lean on right now, he and Gallant were close. Morris wants Pratt to tell Neela that they are all with her and Kerry wants her not to think about coming back until she is ready. Pratt has to leave since he is going to get picked up by nine. Jerry tells Kerry that Anspaugh is waiting for her upstairs. Before Kerry leaves Haleh brings Mary up to Kerry. Mary is an EMT Trainee and Haleh doesn’t know what to do with her. Kerry’s beeper goes off, she tells Haleh to let her shadow the nurses for the day to see how nurses do things. As Kerry goes to meet Anspaugh, Haleh shows Mary where the patients come in. Haleh asks her how long she wanted to be an EMT, it wasn’t long, she didn’t like working in retail. Mary and Haleh head over towards Sam, Haleh introduces her and then leaves her with Sam because she has to go irrigate a patient who had a full body road rash, but will come back to get her when she is done. Sam is busy treating a man with the mother of meth mouths so Mary just stands there and watches.

Out in the ambulance bay Ray asks Pratt about how Neela is doing, he left some messages for her. Pratt tells him that she is doing amazingly well. Ray remarks on how she is tougher than she looks, he tells Pratt that he will try calling again but Pratt thinks she needs some space and he doesn’t want Ray to complicate the matter. The limo pulls up but Neela isn’t inside, the man inside explains that Dr. Rasgotra has asked that they go on without her.

Luka is working on building the baby crib when Abby wakes up. He tells her its not finished but she thinks it looks finished. He has gotten a lot of work done in the time he has working because he has had trouble sleeping because he keeps thinking about Gallant and the Clemente situation. He explains that he painted the room yellow since he didn’t know weather to paint it blue or pink. Abby tells him how much she loves everything the way it is, they haven’t really been specific about their relationship so Luka says "That’s right, lets get married."

Kerry walks into the conference room, Kerry is sorry she’s late, she didn’t realize they were having a pre-meeting. She explains how she went to his office but Anspaugh cuts her off and tells her to have a seat. As she sits down she sees the stenographer typing the conversation she just had with Anspaugh. He wanted them to talk prior to the session. The fallout of Clemente was more significant than they anticipated, he has been hearing things. They got a letter from a patients attorney, Mr. Fred Fong, a diabetic with a gangrenous toe needed an amputation. Kerry had reviewed the case and thinks it was a reasonable outcome that was completely blameless but Anspaugh tells her that the family sees an opportunity. Kerry asks to speak in private, referring to the stenographer, Anspaugh explains that they cant, its hospital policy that the conversation is documented. Clemente was cleared by the impaired physicians committee, he never tested positive for drugs and Kerry believes he never compromised patient care. Anspaugh isn’t sure that will matter because the state board posts a bad doctors list online, accessible to anyone with a computer and Clemente was listed on it. The board feels let down because they expect the chief of staff to use utmost discretion in hiring physicians. Kerry pleads with Anspaugh that she needed an attending so she hired the best doctor she could find even when she knew his past history which was very complicated unclear with a lot of unsubstantiated obligations. He still thinks she should have kept her eye on him but she’s not down in the ER much anymore. This brings about a second issue, the board is concerned with Luka’s ability to manage the department, Kerry doesn’t think Anspaugh is being serious, he asks her if she is satisfied with the job Luka is doing. Kerry thinks that he is doing the best he can with what he has.

Luka signs off on a chart instructing the other doctors to put the man on a monitored bed until ICU can take him up. Chuny goes to put him in Exam 2 and Abby leaves to go talk to Luka. She tells him that she doesn’t want to get married for the sake of getting married, she tried that, she doesn’t know if anyone should or can stay together forever. Morris shouts down the hall "Paging Dr. Lockhart." Before she goes to see what Morris wants she tells Luka that she only wants to go through one humongous life change at a time, Kerry calls for Luka so before he leaves he tells her that its easier if you lump it all together. Luka walks over to Kerry and asks her how her hip is. Her hip is fine but the ER is going to be short an attending after all because Kerry hast to attend an Emergency Medicine Executive Committee where Risk Management is going to advise them on the Clemente situation. Kerry is explaining that the Hospital is getting heat about. Luka is confused because Kerry hired Clemente and he was on staff before Luka was moved up to chief. Luka had the authority to fire Clemente and should have but he didn’t, he fears that he will lose his job over this. Kerry is just saying that if she wasn’t chief of staff she wouldn’t be so sure Luka would be Chief of the ER so they should just get through it as best they can with what they have.

Pratt knocks on Neela’s door, she explains that she doesn’t want to go because going means saying goodbye and saying goodbye means forgetting. Pratt tells her that it doesn’t have to. She tells him that you cant help it, she cant remember his hands, his voice. When they move inside she tells him that she keeps asking herself, again and again, why he went back, he was only 29 blown up by a bomb. Pratt explains that it was a tragedy but Gallant wanted to be part of something bigger, he had this crazy idea to make a difference, nobody wants to forget him, that’s what the day is all about.

Morris is making a memory film, it’s his last day working at County. Abby tells him that you don’t make a memory film yourself so the person isn’t held hostage to saying nice things. Morris had expected better material from her even though he was feeding her the lines. Jerry comes into the desk area with a kid named Timmy who is dressed as a strawberry. He had over indulged at spring pageant buffet at the school. It is Morris’s last day and because he is chief resident he designates Abby to the case. He leaves in 10 hours and calls no kids because he is sick of getting bit kicked and peed on. Abby goes to an upcoming trauma and tells Jerry to put him in Curtain 1, and tell Timmy to take it easy. Timmy exclaims "Easy, I'm a freaking strawberry." Abby’s trauma patient is a 71 year old male who was found slumped over in a parked car. Jerry puts Timmy on a gurney and tells him to pinch himself. He cant reach so Jerry pinches him, it hurts but he stopped thinking about his stomach ache. As Jerry leaves Timmy tips over and cant sit back up.

Two elderly women are with the man who was found slumped in a car, Mitch. They are part of a church group. The two women discuss the events of finding him and how their visions led them to him. Morris is filming Sam now, Mary tells Sam that Holly needs them in exam 3. Sam tells her that its Haleh not Holly. As she is walking away she tells Morris that the old lady in 3 is still waiting on a rectal, but not on his last day he calls no rectal’s and no geezers. Sam asks him if there is any patients he will examine, and he says "Yeah, hot chicks." Mary comes up to Sam with the vitals she asked for on the medium timer, Sam corrects her saying it’s a mediastinal mass. The BP Mary got was 28/17 which is almost dead. Sam tells her telling her she needs to know what is normal before she starts getting vitals and if she isn’t sure she should get help. They walk into Mitch’s exam room he is obtunded with bradycardia. Abby orders 5 of atropine, chem 7, ABG, and a tox screen. Mitch has no gag reflex do they get ready to intubate him, the two elderly women discuss his condition, After he is intubated his heart rate drops down to 30 compressions and pacing both need to be started. Sam asks Mary if she knows how to do compressions so Sam tells her to do it.

Jerry asks Timmy how he auditioned for the roll, but he didn’t, he had wanted to be the bad bunny. Ray checks him over. Jerry tells Timmy that he once wanted to play the cowardly lion but he had to be a Munchkin. Ray remarks "You, a Munchkin?" Ray asks the kid if he could suck on a popsicle to help settle his stomach. Jerry goes to get one, he assumes that the kid would like a strawberry popsicle.

Morris is talking to his camera as one of the Paramedics, Dumar, wheels in a patient. A 28 year old prisoner with a blunt head trauma, altered LOC but he is stable. Ray takes him since Morris called no prisoners on his last day. Ray also gets to take care of the second prisoner, Steve. His stitches got torn open.

Mary is doing compressions, she asks how long she has to keep it up. Abby orders an epi infusion, 10 mics per minute while Sam watches prisoner get wheeled down the hall. Luka comes in and tells Mary to step back. He steps up and shows her how to do compressions correctly. He also tells Sam that she should show Mary the right way to do things.

In the car the man says there will be a military honor as requested. Neela tells him that she didn’t request one but it turns out that Colonel and Mrs. Gallant did. Pratt assures her that it is something that Michael would want. After the reception they are going to the ceremony in Lincoln park. Neela doesn’t seem too happy about it, only remarking that canapés will be served.

Abby’s patient is trying to self extubate. Sam asks Luka if she could have a minute, Luka agrees and walks out with her and Mary. The Man is trying to self extubate. Abby explains to him that he probably took too many pills by accident. The first elderly woman tells Abby that he does get confused sometimes, the second elderly woman asks if they can leave now and take him home. Abby tells them that he may have to stay for a few days, she asks if there is anything wrong. They say that there is something bad in the hospital, they can feel it. Abby tells them that she feels that every day. The second elderly woman asks Abby if everything is alright with her baby, who is fine, they tell her she must be brave to bring a child into this world without faith in a higher power.

Sam explains to Luka that Mary is dragging her down, Luka is sure that Sam will whip her into shape. Mary joins Sam as she walks towards sutures and the trauma rooms. Mary tells Sam that she thinks Luka needs to lighten up a bit, Sam just says that it is his department. Ray comes out of the trauma room as a sheriff goes into sutures. Ray needs to tube the guy and needs Sam to draw the seduction med’s. Sam is surprised to see that Steve is there. Sam goes into the trauma room with Ray and tells Mary that she will get her a CPR dummy later but Mary thinks she’s done enough CPR for one day. Ray explains the process and purpose of an intubation to Mary and Sam explains that Vec knocks the patient out so you can do the intubation. Mary takes the Prisoners BP, 132/84 and his pulse ox is up to 99.

At the funeral a man plays the trumpet, 7 soldiers fire into the air 3 times then 6 soldiers fold a flag over Gallants casket. While they fold Neela memory brings her back to the day gallant told her it was too dangerous over there for her, he reminds her that he is a soldier and she, in turn, reminds him that he is also a husband. She remembers when Gallant told her he was thinking about asking her out, and she was thinking of saying yes. She remembers the day Michael came back for the first time. At the ceremony the soldiers finish folding the flag and step back. They give the flag to Neela, then he comes up to her with Gallants 2 medals. She remembers the day when he first left and she had said "You better come back, you know that don’t you" Mrs. Gallant takes the medals since Neela hasn’t.

The Prisoner asks Sam how he is doing. She tells him his CT was normal but he's probably going to be spending the night, lucky him. He explains to Sam that he isn’t the luckiest guy in the world, he tells her that the other guy started it so she should stay away from him. Sam tells Mary she is going to check on the guy in sutures. They will have to test the prisoners urine so Sam gives him a container. The prisoner tells her that he isn’t going to pee in front of everybody so Sam tells Mary to get the screen. Sam puts a moist to dry dressing on Steve and asks him how it happened. He tells her that the other guy was trying to steal his smokes. We see Steve look into the other room as Mary holds her had over the other sheriff’s mouth. The sheriff tells Sam that the prisoners will fight over anything. Sam tells Steve that she thought he was going to try and turn things around, he is. We see Mary unhook the prisoner. She walks into sutures and says that his bp is 125 over, she pulls her gun on the second sheriff. Sam takes a step back as the Prisoner comes into the room. Mary tells Sam to pull the blinds while Rafe pulls the unconscious sheriff into the room and closes the door. Sam thinks Mary is out of her mind so Mary repeats her order to pull the blinds.

Morris is filming one of his patients, Sveta, he is flipping cards over for her to read off of. "Sensitive, generous, debonair, macho, what is this macho?" Morris thanks her. Jerry and Timmy are playing a computer game, Luka tells Jerry not to cheat. Ray is talking to Luka about his missing persons report he has to follow up on. Luka is looking at a chart, he asks who did the work up, Ray tells him it was Sam and Mary. The vitals on it are completely wrong. He asks where Sam is, Ray tells him she is with prisoner number one, Steve and some other guy had come in. Luka goes off to find Sam.

In the suture room we see the two sheriff’s tied up on the floor. Rafe puts on the sheriff’s clothes and tells Sam that she is going to walk them out like Steve is going back to jail. Sam tells Steve that this is it, once he crosses this line there is no coming back for her. Mary is keeping watch through the blinds on the door. Steve explains to Sam that he isn’t getting out of jail anytime soon, Sam tells him that that’s what he deserves. Rafe says that if there is anything that they haven’t anticipated that it’s the time to say it.

Luka walks down the hall towards the trauma room he notices that the trauma room is empty and the blinds on sutures are closed. He knocks on the door, Mary opens it and tells him to wait a second. After a minute she opens the door and he goes in. Rafe holds up a gun and tells him to sit down. Luka lunges towards Rafe, Sam tells them not to shoot so Mary sticks a needle in Luka’s back. Steve kicks Luka in the head and he passes out. Sam cant believe that Mary gave him Vec. She rolls Luka over and listens for breathing. She asks Mary for the ambu bag and explains that Vec paralyzes the muscles so Lukas diaphragm isn’t working and wont be able to breath for the next half hour. Sam pleads with them, if they let her fix him up she will walk them right out of there. Steve tells Mary to go get the van, on her way out she runs into Abby. Abby asks her if she has seen the sonosite in there. Mary doesn’t think so, she blocks Abby’s way, Abby asks if there’s something wrong, Mary tells her that they are about to do an intubation. Abby wonders if Luka is doing the intubation. Mary tells her that Luka went to do the head thingy, Abby who has her hand on the door tells her its CT and remembers that she saw it in exam 3. Mary leaves to go get the van.

At the reception Colonel Gallant is telling about the mind set of a soldier ‘This is a good day to die.’ That is how soldiers have to think, that is the kind of boy he raised. Neela gets up and gives him Michael’s medals. He tells her that Michael would want her to have them. But to her it only means that he is dead. Colonel Gallant begins to explain how it’s a hard day for all of them, Neela cuts in by saying how dare you say it’s a good day to die, she tells him he "could have kept him here, saved him but he made him want to go back, for what, because there was something noble in it. Why did you have to do that when it would have been just as easy to convince him to stay for a much better reason. Because we loved him, because we loved him." Pratt tells her they should go for a walk so she goes.

Sam is trying to intubate Luka, her hands are shaking and she cant see anything. The prisoners want her to just stick the tube in but it wont work like that. She tells Luka she’s sorry. Steve didn’t know that Luka could still hear so Sam explains that he is paralyzed but he can still hear and feel everything. Rafe wants to go, Sam asks Steve why he is doing this to her, Steve says that it was the other guys idea. Rafe wants to know if they are coming or not because if they aren’t he is just going to leave. Sam wants to try again and she gets it. Rafe holds the gun to her head and tells her to go right now. Lukas eyes open and they pull her away. Rafe peeks out the door and then Sam wheels Steve out of the room. Morris and two officers call to Sam, she says she will help them in a minute she just has to ship Steve off first. The officers ask her about a missing person, old guy named Mitch Keeley, he got moved out of 3 and they want to know where he is. Sam doesn’t know but tells them that they might want to check in sutures. Morris reminds her that she just came from there, he tells the officers to check the front desk. Morris starts talking to Steve and finally decides to leave. Jerry tells Sam she has to fill out discharge because admit says they are going to have to be tight with prisoner paperwork. Sam says with a shaky voice "Uh, check in sutures, I think I might have left it in there." She walks Steve towards the doors and turns around for a brief moment "Ok Abigail?" Sam goes through the doors into the waiting area. Abby says that something is wrong, the two officers at the desk turn around and Abby repeats that something is wrong. The one officer tells the Rafe the "sheriff" to hold up and come back for a minute. They are half way across the waiting area, they stop and Steve stands up, they both start shooting at the desk area. The officers shoot back, the elevator opens up and a cop inside gets shot. Sam runs out with them and tells Steve to just go, to think about Alex and just leave. He tells her he already did, she looks in the van and sees Alex tied up on the floor. Sam runs into the van to Alex and Mary pulls away. As they pull away the officers shoot at the van.

Inside the hospital Abby is laying on the floor, officers walking around inside say that the ER is closed. Haleh goes over to Abby to make sure she’s ok. The cop in the elevator yells so Ray and Chuny go in to help him. Abby asks for someone to go find Kovac. Jerry is on the floor and hurt, Morris runs around the desk to where Abby, Haleh, Jerry, and Timmy are. Jerry tells them its hard to breathe and they call for a gurney. Jerry had gotten in front of Timmy so Timmy wouldn’t get shot. Timmy pinches Jerry’s leg and asks him if its better, Jerry thanks him. In the trauma room Morris sets up for a chest tube, Abby asks for O2 100 percent non re-breather, Jerry’s pulse is strong. The officer asks Jerry what he did, Jerry simply says "I'm a big target." He wants them to tell Frank he cant cover for him on Friday.

As the van speeds down the road Sam tells Steve he probably killed someone, one of her friends. As she unties Alex he tells her that God told him that losing Sam is where he went wrong, that everything would be right if he could get his family back. Sam, angry and frustrated, asks Steve if God told him to do it with guns.

Abby tells the officer that one guy was named Steve Curtis and she doesn’t know who the other guy was. Haleh wants to know where Sam is, if they have talked to her but they haven’t found the nurse yet. Morris tells Jerry that he is going to feel a lot of pressure. Abby who is a little dizzy from hitting her head takes a minute. Jerry tells Morris that pharmaceuticals is going to be lucky to have him. Abby asks Ray if he took the cop in the elevator up to the OR but Ray hasn’t seen him, he thought Luka was with Abby. Meanwhile, in sutures Luka is laying strapped to the gurney trying to get close enough to the wall to push off.

At the reception site Pratt’s phone rings but he ignores it. He goes over to Neela, she asks him if this is something she will never get over. Pratt tells her its something you find a place to put and let it make you stronger, and you go on living your live because that’s all you can do, that’s the way Michael would have wanted it. Pratt’s phone rings again, he looks at it and tells her he think something going on at the hospital.

Jerry’s pressure drops again, Ray thinks he has to be bleeding in the belly but Morris, who is looking at the chest film tells him the belly is clear. There has got to be something that’s missing. Haleh calls out that units 3 and 4 are going up. Morris thinks he needs a second chest tube, Abby thinks the first is in a good position but Ray tells them that they have gotten less than 500 cc’s out of the first chest tube. Abby, still looking at the chest film doesn’t see a hemothorax. Kerry comes into the trauma room, she says "I was upstairs, they wouldn’t let us down, what the hell happened? Oh my god, Jerry" Morris gets the second chest tube in and over a liter of blood comes spilling out onto the floor. Abby goes into the next room to look for something. Luka sees her, she gets a bit dizzy so she bends down and puts her hand on her leg, when she stands up she sees that there is blood on her hand, still dizzy she reaches to put her hand on the door for stability. She begins to slide until she reaches the floor. Abby lays on the ground passed out and bleeding.
