The alarm is ringing and we see Ray
sleeping in the floor and a woman is sleeping in the bed, naked. She is
wondering why he is on the floor and he doesn't know. She wants him to stay,
but he tells her that he has to go to work. She sniffs drugs and offers him
some but he passes. At the same time, Pratt and a friend are playing
basketball and he wonders who Pratt is taking to their friend, Darnell's, 30th
birthday party. Pratt doesn't want to go, so his friend makes a bet that if
he makes the next shot, Pratt will go to the party. He misses the shot and
Pratt tells him "Game Over". At Sam and Luka's, Luka is looking for shaving
cream, and finds Sam's home pregnancy test kit. Just as Sam comes to help
him, he covers the kit with a towel. She comes in wanting to use the
bathroom, but waits until Luka is done. At County, Carter is waiting to talk
to Weaver. After yelling at her assistant, she tells him that the reason that
she wanted to talk to him is that he has been awarded tenure, but not to tell
anybody yet, because it's not official. After all she says “you have the next
30 years to gloat about it."
Luka and Sam are in traffic and he turns
down the radio. Sam gets mad and asked him why he did that. He asked if she is
feeling ok because she was in the bathroom a long time. Then he asked if the
test came back positive or negative, she tells him it was negative. He then
confronts her and asked why she would hind something like that from him. She
tells him she was scared. Next a fight starts because of this and leads to Sam
telling Luka that she knows nothing about him because he nerves talks. To
change the subject, Luka turns the radio to the traffic report. At the ER,
Neela is given a choice of cat litter ingestion or a butt abuss off a 300 pound,
she chooses the ingestion. Chuny gives Pratt a chart about Eugene Bradley, a
known drug seeker, is back again with pain. Every doctor has treated him, but
no one has been able to stop his pain. Pratt tells Morris to treat him. He
doesn't want to and tried to give it off to Abby, but has no luck. Ray comes up
to Morris and tells him he has disposed and patient. Morris calls him "The
Closer", and then he tricks him into taking Eugene. Jerry tells Morris he has a
mean streak. Carter walks up to Jerry and asks where Susan is and Jerry
cognates him on making tenure. Carter asks how he found out and then tells him
it's not official and to keep it quiet. Ray is checking Eugene’s leg out and
tells him they can't give him anything without consent. He gives Ray a note,
but Ray can't since it's not an emergency. He tells him to go home, stay off
his feet and if it's still hurting when his mom gets in for work, come back and
he will not have to wait. Carter finds Susan organizing the stock room and
tells her he made tenure. She is upset because she didn't get it too. Carter
tells her Weaver is probably looking for her. She says that she has been in the
stock room all morning. Then she goes to tell Morris he has been made Chief
Resident, with a three month probation period. He is so happy that he doesn't
hear anything she tells him. Susan walks away and asks if she got any
messages. Pratt has gotten a lot of messages from his friend about the party
tonight, but a bet is a bet. Eugene is in waiting room and Ray is told that he
is a frequent flyer. Morris then announces that he is now Chief Resident and
everybody thinks it is a joke. A trauma of an apartment fire is pulling up and
he tries to take control of everything. The doctors only look at him at laugh.
Abby is at a baptism with Jake. As the first trauma is coming through the door,
Morris gets on Sam's nerves by calling her nurse. Eugene tells Pratt that he
can't walk. Ray tells Haleh to get a wheelchair and give him morphine for his
pain. As another trauma come through, Carter tells Ray to start helping with
the multiple traumas. On one trauma victim, Marilyn Bracken, they can't figure
out why she is not breathing and don't know what to do.
Carter, Susan, Ray, and Pratt are all
working together to figure out what is wrong with the women. Susan starts over
with the ABC’s and finds out that the women has ingested Cyanide and has Cyanide
toxicity. They give her meds and Carter congratulates Susan on a good catch.
Ray watches Eugene walking and confronts him telling him he thought he couldn’t
walk and tells him to stop playing him and leave. He has no pills so Ray writes
him a prescription. Eugene complains that they will not work and begs him to
stay the night. Ray says no and leaves. Neela tells a trauma patient from the
fire has some injuries but nothing serious. He tells them that he jumped.
Pratt asks if he can feel his legs but he can’t. Then Pratt, Neela, and Morris
get into an argument over diagnosing and by the x-ray, Pratt wins. Luka and Sam
treat a 12 year old girl, Megan Nesbitt that was home alone and has burns in her
arms. Mrs. Bracken is beginning to wake up and is altered, as Susan tries to
suture her cuts. Carter asks her if she knows what happened to her, but all she
says is that she needs to go home and tells them that she didn’t live in the
apartment that caught fire. Luka does an ultrasound on Megan to rule out
internal injuries and determines that she doesn’t have any. After this Luka
looks at Sam funny and she asks him if he was a problem, still fighting over the
argument earlier in the morning. Jake and Abby are getting food and talking to
Jake’s relatives. They all wonder why Jake and Abby are not married and why she
has no kids, telling her that it’s never too soon to start a family with two of
his cousins starting at 35 and 40. Carter and Susan are still treating Mrs.
Bracken and she tells them she was meeting someone there got lost and was
looking at the floor maps, the ones that say you are here. She got caught in
the fire and never got to meet her. Jerry tells Susan that Weaver is looking
for her. Mrs. Bracken tells the doctor that she is having trouble breathing and
Carter determines she has some guarding on the right side of her stomach, where
he thinks a piece of glass might of went through her during the explosion.
Susan says she checked all the wounds and they are all superficial. Carter asks
her to check. She pokes her finger on all the wounds and near her stomach her
finger goes right through and cut her finger.

Sam is putting cream on Megan’s burns and
tells that her parents are coming. She asked if they were told that she almost
died. Sam says no and Megan wishes Sam had, because to her all they care about
is her half brother and not about her. When they come she wants Sam to tell
them she was hurt bad. Jerry then tells that the friends on the jumper didn’t
make it. Sam tells Megan to get some rest. Sam leaves and tells Luka that a
social worker should be called because they left her unattended. Luka says that
she was just in a fire and to let her parents see her before they bring Social
Services in. Susan is being treated and Dr. Dubenko, Carter and Ray are looking
at an x-ray. Dubenko confirms that free air from the x-ray that a piece of
glass went through Mrs. Bracken stomach and Ray wonders why it didn’t show up on
the X-ray, with Dubenko saying that only heavy metals show up on x-rays. As
Carter is leaving to talk with his father on the phone, Dubenko congratulates
Carter on making early tenure. Susan returns with a sore finger and arm from
the tetanus shot, and finds out that the HIV test is negative. As Dubenko is
taking Mrs. Bracken to the OR, Susan asks if the surgical tenures have been
announced. He says this morning they were announced and Susan wonders when
Weaver is going to make it down to the ER. Sam then asks Susan to call social
services down on Megan; she wonders why Luka didn’t order one himself. She
tells them they had a disagreement and calls Luka over and tells him that she
wanted a concept. He gets mad at her for going over his head. Susan tells them
to stop fight with each other at work and if they are having trouble with each
other, see a therapist. As for the consult call them because the parents will
get here before they do anyway. Neela is going of a chart with Pratt, then
tells him she should present to Morris because he is now Chief resident. Jerry
gives Pratt a list of phone messages and tells him to get a voice mail. Pratt
tells Carter that people don’t understand that after a 12 hour shift no one want
to party. Morris announces a party after work, but no one goes. Then every one
gathers, with a cake, to congratulate Carter on making tenure. Morris wonders
why he didn’t get any cake and Susan doesn’t seem happy because she wanted
tenure too. Then Mrs. Bracken husband comes in to find his wife and Carter
shows him to the OR telling him she is doing fine, but a piece of glass has
penetrated her colon and she is in surgery. He asks what she was doing there
because she doesn’t live there. He wants to see her but can’t, and tells Carter
to tell her that he is here. Susan meets Weaver in her office and tells her not
to rush about her not getting tenure, and she want to know why. Weaver gives
her a bunch of BS and Susan blows up. Telling her that the ER runs smoothly and
that means one less thing for her to worry about, and if he was tenured that
would mean less shifts and she would have to worry about the ER. Weaver points
out that after seven years of being an attending she has only made $75000 of
grant money and someone of her stature should be over 1 million. Grants pay her
money, so that is the reason she didn’t make tenure. Susan gets mad and tells
her to forget about excellence and performance just make money, and walks out.
. Ray gives his charts to Neela to make time for his band. Neela tells him he
is cleaning the bathroom for doing this. As Ray is trying to get a taxi, he sees
Eugene outside a store watching T.V. Ray tries to give him money and tells him
to go home, but his mom is not home. Ray tells him that they will not give him
anymore drugs. Eugene tells him that he can’t go home because his mom’s
boyfriend will be there and he does “stuff” to him. Luka and Sam are in the
stock room. As she is looking for Dilantin, Luka gives a sarcastic remark and
she wants to omit he is mad at her. He doesn’t, and she says that he buries his
feeling and won’t omit to anything. He gets mad and tells her that he doesn’t
have to tell her about his life every five seconds. Haleh tells them that Megan
is in a lot of pain and Luka makes Sam give her morphine and she leaves. Carter
sees Susan at the vending machines and she tells him that she didn’t make
tenure. He wonders who else got the slots if she didn’t, but she tells him he
is the only one. He tells her that there are always more than one spot opened
for tenure and she says not in the year that he applied. Carter asked what she
meant by that and asks if she thinks he deserved it. Telling her that he has
brought in grants and has worked his ass off for 11 years for this and never
asked for this. Susan tells him that he never wanted it; this ER is her home
where she started and sometimes she wonders if he wants to be here or not.
Pratt is leaving and his friend shows up
telling him to go to the party. Pratt tells him to give him two minutes. Ray
and Eugene come in, and Ray tells Chuny to put Eugene in exam 2. Pratt wonders
why he is back. Ray tells him that he has been raped. Sam is checking Megan’s
burns, and she tells her she called 911 and she says that they didn’t come as
quick as she thought they would. She then tells her she started the fire,
called 911 and lost control of it. Her parents come in and they hug. Abby and
Jake are outside talking and she asks how they liked her, “After a vote you are
a keeper,” he says, she tells him he is lucky to be in a close family and never
thought these kinds of families existed and after knowing this, she wants to
leave. Pratt shows up at the party and everyone is happy to see him. He sees
Darnell and his friends and begins to talk to them. Back at the ER, Susan sees
Eugene and is told Ray admitted him. She tells him to stop treating medicine
like his hobby and start treating it like his jib. Sam tells Luka that Megan
just wanted the firemen to come and never meant for the fire to get out of
control. See wanted a little of attention. For that she will be going to
juvenile. She tells Luka why they can talk about anything but them. She takes
his hand and tells him that they need to see a counselor. Pratt and his friends
are outside talking and drinking. One of them pulls a gun and starts shooting
out street lights. As the cops start to come, they take off running. Ray goes
in to check on Eugene and tells him that will stay with him until his mom comes
to get him. Eugene sees Ray’s guitar and asks if he is a musician. Ray
replies, “Not tonight.” Susan is home starting into space as Chuck pours her
and him a glass of wine, and tells her that they can are just kiss his ass. She
tells him that the funny this is that she wanted tenure. Carter calls Kem to
tell her he got tenure.
