In the beginning of this episode, Elizabeth Corday is dropping Ella off for carpool. The man in the minivan is taking the kids to a place for a girl’s birthday. Including Ella, there are three girls in the car. Carter and Kem both walk into the hospital together. Kem is talking to Carter, because she wants to find out some information on County General Hospital’s disease center. She wants to observe the hospital for a day. Weaver is in the lounge preparing her speech for Romano’s memorial. She is practicing is, so basically she has it memorized. Carter walks in, and gets permission for Kem to wander the hospital, which Kem does. Weaver is rude to everyone, telling them at nine AM, they must be in the hallway, for a staff meeting. There is going to be a dedication to Robert Romano. Kem is talking to Sam about whether STD patients get HIV testing. Sam tells her sometimes, it depends on the patient.

A thirty-one year old male is brought to the ER on Gallant’s ride along ambulance day, because he is complaining of back and stomach pain after falling down the stairs. Frank thinks he is having a heart attack, but after he sits down and kind of hunches over, he releases gas. Carter and Luka are working on the man who fell down the stairs. As Luka and Carter and working, Kem walks in, and starts observing the procedure. Weaver is looking for a ER Chief, and asks Susan Lewis to step in temporarily. Susan resigns the job, and when Weaver looks at her questioningly, Susan mutters, "I’m pregnant." She then pukes on the hospital floor, and makes her way out of the door. Sam, Carter, and Luka are both working together on the man who fell down the stairs.

Sam is ordering tests Luka thinks are not needed, so she snaps something back at him and walks out of the room. Frank is going around and getting everyone in the hallway, for Weaver’s dedication to Romano. Kerry dedicates the Romano statue, to the bisexual and gay healthcare inside of the hospital. All of the staff is amazed by this. How could this happen? , they all wonder. Weaver then orders everyone to go back to work. Carter, Kem, and Abby just sit there staring at the statue of Romano. They just don’t think its true. They all wonder if it’s true, because Romano was not fond of gay rights. Elizabeth Corday is late, and when Carter, Kem, and Abby sit there staring at it, she walks by, and says oh my gosh! Pratt is now checking out an x-ray, and then asks a nurse to dinner with him that night. It’s Gallant’s ride-along ambulance night, and they are at the scene of a domestic violence call. Gallant wants to go into the house, but the other EMTs say no, because last year, one EMT got shot. Gallant seems to get frustrated while he waits, because he can hear a woman getting beaten on. Kem is looking at the charts, asking Frank questions. Frank reminds her she is asking the wrong person, because he doesn’t know. Carter comes down, hugs Kem, and tells her he got a lab tour for Kem, and it someone should be down any minute. Elizabeth Corday trots up to Weaver, and asks her about the statue of Romano, and about why it’s dedicated to the gay healthcare center. Weaver tells her it was a general donation, which the hospital used on a area where they felt they were lacking.

At Gallant’s call, the cops arrive, and they break into the house. The woman is bleeding from the head, the husband is drunk, and the cops are now arresting the husband. Luka is teaching a class, at which Kem enters and starts listening. A boy was brought in earlier in the ER, who was almost frozen. The boy is talking to Pratt about what happened, when the boy starts freaking out, wondering if he is paralyzed. Pratt orders a MRI so that he can check. Pratt goes and sees a Risk Management person, whom he missed his appointment with earlier. The meeting is about one of Pratt’s patients. Pratt was intubating, broke the neck of the kid, and paralyzed him for life. At Gallant’s case, the dad got arrested, and Gallant finds a little boy in the closet with a gun. The little boy was going to protect his mom, if his dad found him in there. In Luka’s class, Luka is up there in front, teaching about scanners for healthcare. Just then, Kem raises her hand, and starts talking. She eventually ends up taking over the class. Sam talks to Carter about a patient, and they say a few words about Sam’s son, Alex. Luka walks up to Carter, and tells him to talk to Kem about the class, and about Kem taking it over. Carter agrees to talk to Kem about it. Kem is now talking to Neela, and is shaking her head at some of the things that Neela is telling her about the ER. The medic is now telling about the little boy who almost shot Gallant’s head off. Neela and Kem are continuing their conversation, and they are talking about traveling. The mom of the little boy wants to go home, and the little boy is ok. Sam is at the front counter complaining that the doctors think the nurses work for them.

Chuny, Sam, and Abby are talking about dating doctors in the ER. Kem is looking at the AIDS ward, and can not believe how it’s put together. Carter and Pratt are arguing, because Pratt did something against Carter’s wishes, which was give the little boy a MRI. Kem meets up with Carter and talks with him. Elizabeth comes down, and wonders what is wrong with Deb Chen. She then figures out that Chen’s mother had died. Elizabeth is not sure what advice to give, because her last member of family had just died. A mother would like Carter to come to the house, but Carter tells her that they don’t make house calls. Kem gleams at him, as if to say, please, Carter, make the house call. Carter is called to a patient’s bedside when his lung collapses, and Pratt walks away, handing the intubation and suturing kit over to Neela, and walks away. Pratt walks outside, bangs his fists against the wall, and leans his forehead against it. Carter is puzzled as he is trying to find Kem, finally, a ambulance pulls up, and a baby is inside it. Kem was in there, and went to go to a 911 call, but, they needed a translator, is what Kem tells Carter. Carter glares at Kem and walks inside. Carter tells her she shouldn’t have been in the building where she went, there were toxins inside of the building, but Kem reminds him the same ones she could get are in Africa in the Congo where she works.

Carter asks Pratt for help, but Pratt tells him get a med student. Sam is trying to give a drug addict a shot, but he scoops her up in his arms, and starts talking. Abby notices him, and gives him a piece of gum, so Sam can give him his shot. Abby and Sam walk away. A husband and wife enter, and the wife is screaming for help. The woman accidentally shot her husband in the leg. Sam tells Gallant that the patient, (the wife from earlier, ((911 call with Gallant)), ) is sleeping off the day. Her name is Amy, and her son’s name is Rudy. Gallant wants to keep Rudy there with Amy, but DCFS won’t let him do that. So, Gallant is now begging Sam to do a chart on Rudy, saying that he is dehydrated and is complaining of abdomen pain. Plus, he adds in, if this was your kid… So, Sam agrees, and goes off to run a chart on Rudy so he can stay with Amy. Gallant and Rudy are talking about his dad beating his mom, and about his dad going to jail. Lester is doing compressions on the lady whom was brought in with Kem. As time passes, the woman goes into V-Tach. Pratt calls the time of death as Carter stops compressions. Abby calls Carter into Trauma Yellow to work on the husband who got shot. The bullet traveled to the man’s heart from his leg, and the wife and husband and are arguing and fighting about it. Carter walks outside with a basketball and goes over to Pratt, talks to him, and hands him the basketball. Kem meets up with Carter and they talk, and Kem thinks Carter is mad at her. Well, Carter is a little mad at her. Kem brought in everyone from the building with toxins, and Carter tells Sam to round up as much vaccine as she can. Kem goes with her to help, and as she walks off, she tells Carter she loves him. Elizabeth comes down to get the bullet patient, but finds out Dr. Lawson took her patient and gets mad over it. She storms into radiology and tells Dr. Lawson that she is unhappy that he is taking her patients from her. One of Pratt’s patients thanks him, and tells him he’s going home. Pratt goes into Amy’s room, and talks with Rudy for a little bit.

Carter, and another doctor are treating the patients from the building with toxins in it, while Weaver walks by and tells Carter from now on, nobody else is going to Africa. Pratt is doing a nasal procedure, and Carter calls his name, but Pratt assures him he can do it, Kovac taught him how. Elizabeth rushes into the apartment where Ella is, and says sorry to the dad for being late. The dad says its ok, and offers her a drink of wine while Ella and her friend finish the movie. Elizabeth accepts, and the both sit down, drink their wine, and talk for a bit. Back at the hospital, Gallant brings Rudy some dinner and a flashlight, for when lights go out at his house. Luka hops onto the crowded train, and Sam approaches him, and they have a conversation and kiss. Kem tells Carter all she can think about is chocolate. Kem wants to come back the next day, but Carter tells her she can’t, because Weaver told Carter she would fire him if Carter let Kem come back.
