Carter walks in to work and Pratt tells him that he is two minutes late.  Pratt runs the board with him and tells him about the patients before he leaves.  There is a fifty-year-old cirrhosis patient vomiting blood, a sixteen-year-old gang banger with a G.S.W. to the belly, and a fourteen-year-old gang banger with a G.S.W. to the leg.  Susan sees Carter and tells him that there is a bus load of Texans with food poisoning all puking up hash browns.  Pratt hears Susan complaining about being on night-shift for three nights in a row and he tells her that he has been doing graveyard for two weeks straight.  Susan finishes telling Carter that her patients insist on being discharged by 2:16PM, so that they can see the eclipse.  The moon blocks out the sun and vampires like it.  She explains to Carter that the eclipse isn't a big deal.  She has a billboard outside of her apartment that does the same thing.  Pratt heads to the break room and tells Susan that he will see her tonight, it is his last shift at county.

Night Shift: Thursday, 8:11PM

Pratt heads out of the break room and Jerry tells him that he is late.  Jerry asks him if he caught the eclipse?  Pratt tells Jerry that he slept through and Jerry tells him that he couldn't get up for ten minutes to see it?  Pratt explains to Jerry that the eclipse isn't a big deal.  He has a billboard outside of his apartment that does the same thing.  Pratt sees Carter and tells him that he doesn't look so good.  Carter runs the board with him and tells him about the patients before he leaves.  There is a twelve-year-old near drowning patient, a Buddist nun who has dies and is waiting to be picked up by the morgue, a six-year-old in respiratory arrest from cyanide poisoning, a fatal MI with family waiting to go in to see him after he has been cleaned up, and a patient left over from when Pratt had been there earlier that morning.  Pratt can't believe that the patient is still there after twenty hours of waiting.  Carter heads toward the ambulance bay doors to leave and Pratt reminds him that he will not see him again.  He is leaving for Northwestern next week.  Carter tells him good luck and Pratt tells Carter the same.

Day Shift: Thursday, 8:14AM

Carter is on his way out to the ambulance bay to meet a patient.  Weaver is arguing with a construction worker to move his truck.  Jing-Mei meets up with Carter and explains that Weaver is moving triage to make room for four new beds.  She tells him that she thought he was on vacation and he reminds her that it is tomorrow that he is leaving.  She starts guessing as to where he may be vacationing.  She guesses Martha's Vineyard and he tells her no.  She then guesses the Cape and he tells her no, he is heading for Rio de Janeiro with his father.  Paramedic Zadro unloads a thirty-two-year-old woman from the ambulance.  He tells Carter and Chen that she was struck by a cab while walking through traffic.  The woman speaks about it being the end of the world.  She tells them that the world will end at 2:16PM.  Carter tells her that he is working, "I'm always working when the world ends".

Night Shift: Thursday, 8:39PM

Pratt, Susan and Jerry are outside watching Doc Magoo's go up in flames.  Jerry suspects arson, but Susan says that it could have been electrical.  There was nobody in the building, since the restaurant had been closed from the shootings weeks earlier.  Abby walks up and Susan asks her if she brought any marshmallows?  Abby ignores her and heads to Mr. Mednick, who she finds smoking.  Abby tells him that he should be inside on a monitor.  He tells her that he came out for some fresh air.  She reminds him that he has a bleeding ulcer and needs to be inside and not smoking.  He ignores her and she tells him to smoke the whole pack and to come and find her when he starts vomiting up blood.  Abby angrily passes Pratt and Susan on her way back in to the ER.  The paramedic pulls up and starts to tell Susan and Pratt about a patient that she has, but gets interrupted by another explosion at Doc Magoo's.

Carter finally gets to check out the man complaining of pain from his chronic pancreatitis.  He tells Carter that 150 milligrams of Demerol will make the pain stop.  Carter tells him that he will do it this one time, but he will have to flag his chart.  He tells the man that he will have to see his pain specialist after this.  Carter asks him his name and he says, "Dean, John Dean."

Night Shift

"Haldeman, Bob Haldeman", the man replies to Pratt.  Pratt tells the man that one shot of Demerol is all he is going to get.  The E.R. is not the place to manage pain.  The man has been complaining of back pain.  He tells him that he is going to flag his chart.  Jerry tells Pratt that banger #17 is rolling up.  A man stops Pratt for some help, but Pratt points him to chairs.  Susan is at the front desk talking with two firefighters.  Abby walks up and tells them that she thought the fire was outside.  They tell her that the fire is out and she tells them that shouldn't they be outside rolling up their hoses then?  Susan and Abby go outside to where Pratt is unloading the gang banger from the ambulance.  The boy asks them to call his mom.  Abby says that he is just a baby and Pratt tells her that he knows how to take a bullet.  Pratt asks him his name and he tells him that it is Turner.

Day Shift

Carter asks Turner if he would like him to call his mom?  He tells Carter no.  His mom will be mad.  Carter tries to talk sense into the thirteen-year-old boy.  Chen rushes in to the room and tells Carter that they need the room.  Cops found a mass suicide and she has two more behind the patient that she is wheeling in.  The man that she brings in jumped out a third story window.  She asks him why and he tells her that he was about to take it, but they started forcing him.

Day Shift

Carter walks in to the room to see a girl that was found with Cyanide poisoning.  Carter can't understand who would do this to the kids.  Carter intubates the girl.  Chen is taking care of the mother, whose stats are going down.  There isn't enough Cyanide kits for everyone and Carter wants to take care of the girl first.

Night Shift

The stabbing victim is covered in blood.  Abby sees that there is a pregnant uterus and the baby is missing.  The girl is going to need blood.  They intubate her and Pratt clamps the uterus.

Day Shift

Carter sees that the little girl is making purposeful movements.  She looks as if she will be okay.  Carter hears noises and sees Turner stabbing the other gang banger.

Night Shift

Pratt and Susan are having a hard time getting Turner's stats back up.

Day Shift

Carter asks Mr. Dressler on a scale from one to ten how bad his pain is.  He replies hat it is an eight and then tells him a nine.  Carter tells him that he is having a heart attack.  He needs to take him upstairs to have the vessel unblocked.  Haleh opens the door and tells Carter that his dad is on line three.  Carter asks Mr. Dressler if he called his wife and he tells Carter that his wife took the kids to Lincoln Park.  He left a message for them at home.  Carter tells him not to worry.  Carter gets into some scrubs as he speaks to his dad.  Weaver comes in and is upset about the stabbing incident.  She interrupts Carter's call and he yells, "I'm on the phone Kerry"!  It sounds as if his father will not get to make the trip.  He explains to Kerry what happened.  She tells him that the waiting room rack is over thirty percent and she will take over lead for the rest of the shift.  He tells her good.  Kerry sees that Carter is bleeding on his back, from where he was stabbed by Nelson.  Malik tells Carter that the cath. lab will take Mr. Dressler in thirty minutes.  Carter tells him that he will need to go up now.  He is losing heart muscle.  Mr. Dressler tells him that he has a really bad feeling about this.  He wants Carter to get him a paper and a pen so that he can write a note to his kids.  Carter tells him okay, but gets called away by Lydia for another patient.

Corday comes in to Romano's surgery.  Kerry climbs into the back of a truck where a man fell ten feet off of some scaffolding.  Carter climbs up behind her.  He has some Rebar through the right chest.  The Rebar is stuck through a concrete block and they can't move the man because he will bleed to death.  He looks up to the sky, which is getting near to the eclipse.

Night Shift

Jerry tells Pratt that there is a call from someone about the woman who was stabbed.  Pratt sees that the elderly man isn't doing well, so he tells Jerry that it will have to wait.  Pratt sees that the man is out of breath.  The man's name is Ray Jamison.  He is having palpitations that come and go.  Pratt asks if he has a doctor and he tells him that Medicare kicks in next year.  Jerry tells Pratt that the call is important and that he should take it.  The person on the other end asks about the woman and he tells her that she is alive.  The person then tells Pratt something else and he replies, What"?

Day Shift

A fire truck pulls up to assist Kerry and Carter with the man in the back of the truck.  Gallant tells Carter that Exam Two is drowning in Pulmonary edema.  Carter asks "Who?" and Gallant replies, "the Buddhist nun".  Chen tells Carter that she will stay with Kerry and for him to go.

Night Shift

"In the alley?", Abby asks Pratt.  "The north side", he tells her.  "Why didn't he just bring it in?", she asks.  "Cause he freaked out", he replies.  His wife came home with a baby and said she gave birth while he was at work.  He saw the news and put it together.

Day Shift

Kito sees Carter giving the nun something.  She asks him if it is for pain and he tells her that it is to help the fluid that is building up in her lungs.  He tells her that he can give her some morphine, but it will suppress her breathing even more.  Kito looks over at another man, who is a monk, and he nods his head yes, so Kito nods yes to Carter.  The monks start to chant.

Day Shift

Jing-Mei and Kerry are still working on the man in back of the truck.  We can see the eclipse in the sky.  They are clamping the bleeding point and they tell the firefighter that he can start cutting the Rebar from the man  We hear the saw start.  The saw is cutting Romano's arm and the surgery is almost over.  Kline asks Corday if she would like to make the final cut and she tells him no.  Carter and the monks continue watching the nun.

Night Shift

"Why didn't he put him where we could see him?", Abby asks Pratt.  "He didn't want it to get run over". he replies.  Susan pulls up with her headlights on and asks, "Find him"?  Abby replies, "No".

Day Shift

We see that the sun is completely covered by the moon and Chen and Kerry are still working in the back of the truck.  The firefighter stops sawing and tells them that he is free.  The sawing stops in the OR and Dr. Kline tells them that the arm is free.  Corday takes the arm and places it into a bag.  The nun's breathing stops and the monks stop chanting.

Night Shift

Pratt hears the baby's cry and they find him.

Day Shift

Luka is on the phone with Carter from the Congo.  Carter can barely hear him.  Luka tells Carter that one of their doctors were hurt and had to be evacuated to Burundi.  He wants Carter to help get another doctor their Visa so that they can go and help.  They are trying to travel to Matenda but the main road is blocked.  There is a cholera epidemic in the refugee population and they can't even get them the rehydration solution.  "You want someone to come in and pitch in for a couple of weeks?", Carter asks.  Luka asks if he can come now and Carter tells him yes.  They get disconnected and are unable to finish their conversation.  Dressler has crashed and Gallant is shocking him.  Carter runs to assist.

Night Shift

Abby, Pratt and Abby work on the baby.  The baby is well and the mother is in post-op.  The baby is healthy and full term.  Pratt tells them that the baby is a screamer.  "Wouldn't you be, literally ripped from the womb by a lunatic?"  Pratt tells them that it only gets better after that.

Day Shift

Haleh tells Carter that Dressler's family is there.  Carter asks where the letter is?  He asks them if they ever gave the man a pen and paper to write his letter to his family like he had asked?  Malik tells Carter that he didn't ask him.

Corday stitches Robert up and he is coming out of anesthesia.  He tells her that she is so beautiful.  "You're taking good care of me", Robert tells her.  "I'm trying, yes", Elizabeth replies.  "I love you, Elizabeth", Romano adds.  She tells him that he needs to get some rest.

Night Shift

Pratt brings the baby up to his mother.  He likes to play hide and seek he tells her.  He hands the baby to her.

Day Shift

Carter is doing compressions on Mr. Dressler and has been working on him for sixty-two minutes.  They are unable to save him.  Carter goes out to tell the family.  "Did he know?  Did he know what was happening?", she asks.  Carter tells her, "Yeah he wanted me....to tell you that he loves you all very much".

Night Shift

Pratt's shift is over and he is telling Jing-Mei about the patients that are still in the E.R.  He then checks on Mr. Jamison, who is doing much better.  He tells Pratt that he will come see him at his office.  Pratt tells him that the E.R. is his office and then stops and tells him that it was his office.  He tells him that he is a fine doctor.  Pratt thanks him and then goes back over to Jing-Mei.  He kisses her and tells her that he will see her later.  She congratulates him as he heads for the doors.  She tells him that he survived the county experience.

Day Shift

Carter heads out the E.R. doors and runs in to Abby who is coming in.  She asks him if he saw the eclipse.  He tells her yeah, sorta.  She asks if he had a rough shift and he tells her about the guy who died.  He doesn't finish the story and she asks him what?  He replies, "Nothing.  Nothing's right here", and he starts to walk away.  She tells him, "Hey.  I havn't seen you in a week.  That's it?"  She tells him that Luka called her looking for him.  He was under the impression that she would know where he was.  She tells him, "You're going, right?  To Africa."  "It's not Rio, but it's not here", he replies.  Carter walks away and sees the fire trucks pulling up to Doc Magoo's, which is on fire.

Night Shift

Pratt is on his way out and goes in to the burnt down building to pick up a first aid kit that he sees.  Weaver asks him if he is suppose to be in there?  She then asks how his last shift was?  He tells her that there was a lot of excitement.  She tells him that if he is ever bored, God knows they could use the staff.  Haleh comes and tells Pratt that he forgot to give Mr. Jamison his prescription and he tells her that Jing-Mei can do it.  She then tells him that the next appointment that Mr. Jamison can get at the cardiology clinic is in four months and she asks Pratt if that is okay?  Pratt sighs and walks over to Haleh.  He tells Haleh to have him call to see if he is on call the day Mr. Jamison comes back and she tells Pratt that she thought he was go
