Pratt and Leon are speaking with a maintenance man about giving Leon a job.  The man wonders how Leon will be able to work with a cast on his hand and Leon tells him that it doesn't hurt.  Pratt tells him that the cast will be off in three weeks and Leon is surprised.  He told the man that "G" told him that it wouldn't come off for six weeks.  The man recognizes Pratt from being at the hospital.  Pratt tells him that he is a doctor in the ER and the man tells him that he hates doctors.  Leon assures the man that he isn't a doctor and the man can see that Leon isn't "the sharpest nail in the box".  The man tells Leon to come with him and talk, alone.

A woman is brought in after having been "T-boned" by a sand truck.  Her name is Jessie Callahan and she is worried about her husband, Tom, who was left at the scene.  The paramedic tells Carter that they are having to cut him out of the car.  The lights are out in the ER and Susan is frustrated about it.  The generator cuts on and the lights come back on.  Kerry is anticipating the arrival of Alderman John Bright.  The paramedics bring him in with his assistant.  He has fallen eight feet from a stage.  Kerry tells him that it is an honor to have him there.  He tells her to call him John.  His assistant, Jennifer, is on a cell phone relaying what all is going on.  Susan tells her that she will have to get off of the phone and Kerry pleasantly tells her that she can use the hospital phone.  Susan asks him if he has been drinking and Kerry tells him that he need not answer, but he replies that he is on the program and has just received his two year chip.  Kerry tells him not to worry, he is in the finest hospital in Chicago.  Just as she is finishing her sentence, the lights go back out.  Kerry and Susan simultaneously turn on their flashlights.

The emergency power has come back on and Carter and Pratt are tending to Jessie, while Kerry is trying to get someone down to look at the power problem.  Leon bangs on the door window and wants to speak with Pratt.  He has come to tell him that he got the job and Leon is very proud and excited about it.  Kerry tells Pratt to kiss his friend goodbye and get back to work.  Carter's shift is over and he is passing Jessie over to Pratt to tend to.  Leon tells Pratt that he starts tonight and Pratt is concerned about him.  Leon assures him that he will be okay.

Kerry and Susan are still tending to the Alderman.  Susan tells him that he has a fractured leg and Kerry tells him that she will get the hospital's best orthopedic doctor on it.  The nurse in the room wants to know if a tox screen needs to be done first?  Susan and Kerry look at him and are surprised.  The nurse isn't really a nurse, but a reporter named Ray McGee.  He wants to know if the Alderman had taken any cocaine?  Susan and Kerry escort him from the room.  "Have you heard of the First Amendment?", he asks Kerry.  Kerry replies, "Have you ever heard of an awake Colonoscopy"?  Kerry tells him to return the scrub top to wherever it is he stole it from.

Susan tells Jerry to try and keep the fake nurses out of the ER.  Luka asks, "Fake nurses?  Don't we have enough trouble with the real ones"?  Luka has just come in for his night shift.  Carter has changed into his tux and is on the way to a fund raiser to hand out a check from the Carter family.  Abby has her dress in hand and tells him tat she will be ready in a minute.  Carter tells her that the next time, they will do whatever she wants to do.  She replies, Like what?  Miniature golf or bowling?  Something my people like to do"?  She is being sarcastic, but we can see that she has been insulted.  Chuny sees Carter and whistles at him for looking so nice.  He tells her that she had better quit.  That is sexual harassment and he may have to circulate a petition, he jokes.  Sarah Wilson has come to speak with Dr. Carter.  She tells him that she is there because he had called Dr. Mac's office.  He remembers and tells her about his diabetes.  She is really concerned about him and wants him to come visit him at his office.  He does not want to neglect his patients and will not come back to see Dr. Carter himself.

Mr. Callahan has been brought in and Gallant and Luka are tending to him.  Chuny runs and tells Carter that Jessie Callahan is crashing and he runs to her.  He tells Sarah Wilson to leave the address to Dr. McNulty's clinic at the front desk and he will go visit him.  Pratt and Susan are with Mrs. Hawkes who is having trouble breathing and has flu like symptoms.  She has her two young children with her.  She has pneumonia and will need to be admitted to the ICU.  She is concerned about her kids.  Pratt takes the kids to go get a soda, while Susan explains to her about her serious condition.  While Pratt is taking the kids to get a soda, he hears them mention an older brother named Doug, who is twenty-years-old, that does not live with them.  Mrs. Hawkes doesn't want to stay in the hospital.  She is worried about who will take care of the children.  Susan tells her that if she quits taking the medicine that they are giving her in the hospital, she will probably die.  Susan asks her if she has any relatives that they can call and she tells her that her husband died last year.  She does have an aunt who lives in Detroit that will come for the kids.  Pratt asks her if Doug can look after them and she tells him that she doesn't want him near her kids.

Chuny comes to get Pratt and tells him that Carter wants him right away.  Jessie is crashing and they are trying to get her heart to beat.  Luka and Gallant are still working on Mr. Callahan.  Romano comes down and sees that he needs to be taken to the OR.  He tells Mr. Callahan to come upstairs to where the good drugs are.  Luka explains to Mr. Callahan about his condition.  He sees that his wife is in the next trauma room and he doesn't want to leave her.  Carter continues to shock her, but she has already been down for ten minutes.  She is brain dead.  Mr. Callahan wants to go see his wife before he is taken upstairs.  Carter is on his way out.  He looks across the ER and sees Abby all dressed up.  She looks back at him and smiles.

Kerry and Susan are discussing the Alderman.  Kerry is bragging about all of the good things that he has done for healthcare and Susan stops her.  She tells her that when she was checking for a pelvic fracture, she noticed a sore on his penis.  She thinks that it may be syphilis.  Kerry asks her if she swabbed it and Susan tells her yes and that it has already been sent to the lab.  Susan asks how she should handle it and Kerry tells her that she will not have to, she will take care of it.

Luka is still with Mr. Callahan, who is still by his wife's side.  He can still hear her heart beating.  Luka tells him that she was deprived of oxygen for too long and that she is brain dead.  Luka tells him that she is gone.  He doesn't accept that and doesn't want to leave her there alone.  Romano comes and knocks on the window.  Luka goes to him.  He tells him to get his patient upstairs now.  There are already surgeons waiting.  Luka explains that he doesn't want to leave his wife.  Romano replies to Luka, "If he's not up there in ten minutes, he is going to take out his spleen"!

The Alderman and Kerry discuss health care.  Romano comes and speaks with him.  Romano is unusually friendly with him and tells Kerry to find him a private room.  The Alderman wishes to be treated just as any other of the patients.  Romano whispers to Kerry, "Get him a room" and then walks away.  As he leaves, the Alderman tells Kerry that he was on the committee that hired Romano.  Kerry sings Romano's praise and says that he is a great surgeon.  The Alderman replies, "It was tragic about his arm.  A lot of people down town wish that it would have been his head".  Kerry asks to speak with the Alderman alone, so Jennifer excuses herself to get a cup of coffee.  She tells him about the sore that was found.  He thought it might be syphilis and Kerry agrees with him that it is.  She will have to report it to the health department she tells him.  He would like it kept out of his medical record.  She tells him that medical records are private and that nobody will see them.  He replies that her records are private, but he is up for re-election and that his records will be public knowledge.  Kerry looks at him as he says, "You don't think everyone deserves some privacy"?

Mrs. Hawkes' son Doug has arrived and he acts as if he is high.  Pratt brings him in to see his mother.  She gets upset when she sees him.  She doesn't want him near her kids.  Rachel, her daughter, tells her that she wants him to stay.  Mrs. Hawkes starts to cough and spits blood on to her young son.  Susan tells them to get the kid's out of the room.  Susan reprimands Pratt for bringing Doug in there and not listening to the patient's request.

Kerry asks Jerry to call and cancel the labs on the Alderman.  Pratt apologizes to Susan.  He tells her that the aunt was located and she is sixty-nine- years-old and has MS.  She is not able to take care of the kids.  Susan and Pratt speak with Doug.  He is worried that he killed his mother and they tell him that she is okay.  She has an infection in her lungs and will need to stay in the hospital for about a week.  They asks him if there is anyone who can watch the kids?  He tells them that Aunt Sarah can't even feed herself.  He doesn't know of anyone else.

Luka tells Tom that they need to get him upstairs to the OR.  He won't leave her, she's not dead, he tells him.  Luka walks over to her as Tom speaks with his wife about a vacation trip they had taken.  The alarm sounds and Tom asks him if that is it?  Luka replies, "Yes, she is gone".  Luka pronounces the time of death and Mr. Callahan thanks him for the time he let him spend with her.   He is taken up to the OR.  Luka walks over to Mrs. Callahan and puts the monitor back on, that he had taken off to cause the alarm to go off without Mr. Callahan knowing.  We hear her heart beating again.

Chuny hands Kerry the lab results on the Alderman.  She tells her that he tested positive for syphilis.  Kerry explains to her that it was mislabeled.  Kerry sees that Mrs. Callahan is still in the room and asks Pratt why?  "Kovac pronounced her an hour ago", she tells him.  "She's in and out of V-Tach, but she has a pulse", he explains.  Kerry finds Luka, after fussing at Jerry for not pulling the Alderman's labs, and wants to know what is going on.  He explains that he did it only to get the husband to go up to surgery and she can't believe it.  A nine-year-old boy named David Scott is brought in after falling from the top bunk on his bunk bed.  The neighbor was babysitting him and called 911.  Kovac and Weaver tend to him.

Abby and Carter are at the fundraiser.  Abby is enjoying the appetizers and Carter tells her to slow it down; if things go right, they can be out of there soon and eating real food.  She asks him how much money they are trying to raise and Carter tells her fifty-eight and that the Carter's are throwing in ten.  "Thousand", Abby asks?  "Million", Carter replies, to her amazement.  Carter tells her that Dr. McNulty's clinic is not too far around the corner from where they are.  "What do you think he would do with fifty-eight million", he asks her?  "Serve appetizers in his waiting room", she replies.  Carter's Gamma comes up and she introduces herself to Abby.  Carter reminds her that she has met Abby before.  Gamma tells them that Carter has a lot of friends and it is hard to keep up with so many.  She asks Carter to attend a Board Meeting in a few days.  Carter tells her no.  She tells him that she is stepping down as President and would like him to take his father's place as treasurer.  He wants to know how Jack is getting out so easy and she tells him that his father is going to be taking the place has president.  Carter tells her, "Thank you, but no thank you".

Kerry and Luka assess David and see that he has a lot of old bruising.  Malik comes in looking for Pratt.  He tells Kerry that Mrs. Callahan's potassium level is down and Kerry tells him what to give her.  Luka reminds them that she is a D.N.R. and shouldn't be treated.  Kerry tells Luka that it is a decision that her husband should be making, but since he thinks she is dead, it is now the decision of her and the other doctors.  Romano knocks on the window of the door and motions for Kerry.  He is upset to see that the Alderman is still waiting, five hours after arriving.  He wants to know why he wasn't put into a private room?  Kerry reminds him that the Alderman requested not to be treated any differently.  Romano yells that there should be two doctors and five nurses hovering over him every minute.  Kerry reminds him that they are short staffed and that there are only five nurses to cover the ER.  "Do it and do it now"!, he tells her.

Abby tells Carter that he was a little rude with his gamma.  Carter tells her to stay out of it.  He tells her that she is just trying to get him to quit his job.  Abby reminds him that she is just old and would probably like some help taking on some of her load.  "What exactly is the family business", she asks?  "Giving away money, cutting ribbons, waving to the common man", he tells her.  "It's Prince Charles without the castle".  Abby tells him that she doesn't know about that, she has seen his gamma's house.  He tells her not to tell him what to do with his life and he walks up on stage as they introduce him and he hands the giant check to the lady.

Luka is rolling David out in the hall to go for more test.  David asks if his dad has come and Luka tells him not yet as they roll him away.  Luka is handed David's x-ray and is upset at what he sees.  Mr. Scott arrives and asks about his son.  Luka insinuates abuse and offends him.  He tells Luka that his son doesn't listen and falls a lot.  It has been worse since his mother left he tells him.

Susan and Adele speak with Doug about his mother and the kids.  They tell him that his mom's chances of recovery is not good and if he knows what they should do about his young brother and sister.  She asks what the best living situation will be for them?  Pratt walks up and doesn't like what he hears.  He wants Doug to take them so that they do not have to go into foster care and possibly be separated.  Doug walks out and Pratt goes after him.  Doug agrees with what they are saying and knows that he is not the best person to tend to the kids.  Pratt tells him that he would be surprised about what all he could do.  "You never should have called me", Doug tells him.  "My mom's right, they're all right", he yells as he walks away.

Weaver goes up to have the Alderman's lab relabeled.  She tells the technician that there was a mistake and she has it redone.  Abby is upset with Carter.  He tells her that he doesn't owe her an apology.  She wants him to get involved in the foundation and do things that he wants to do with the money.  Use it for education, healthcare, whatever he wants.  He tells her that he feels passionate with what he is already doing and she wants to know why he can't do both?  She tells him that he doesn't have to be ashamed of being rich.  He tells her that he isn't.  "No, you drive a jeep.  You wear a cheap watch.  You live in a two-bedroom apartment", she tells him.  "What do you want me to drive, a BMW"?, he replies.  She tells him that she doesn't care, but she knows that he cares a lot.  "You want everyone to think that you are just like them, but you're not.  You just signed a check for ten million dollars in there and you didn't even blink.  I write a check for over a hundred dollars and I get a stomach ache", she exclaims.  Carter tells her that he does good things for people every day.  She tells him that she knows that he does, but money could help them also.  Carter tells her where the Carter family money came from.  His grandfather made a killing during the Depression cornering the coal market.  In the winter of 1933, a lot of children froze to death and his family made out like bandits.  She tells him that it was seventy years ago and that she wants to help people with the money now.

Kerry tells the Alderman that he is able to leave now.  She assures him that his medical record situation has been handled and he thanks her.  When Susan sees her and asks about the test results on the Alderman, Kerry lies to her and tells her that it was negative.  Susan can't believe it.  The police have arrived to speak with Mr. Scott and he tells Luka that he is mistaken.  As they take him away, he threatens to call his lawyer.  Kerry asks him what is going on and Luka explains that he thinks the boy is being abused.  She asks him if he called Social Services and he tells her no.  She tells him that he needs to follow the proper procedures.  Kerry goes in and speaks with the boy.  He asks her about his dad and she tells him that he had to go and speak with some people.  She asks David how he really hurt his arm.  He tells her that he jumped and did not fall.  He was wanting to spend more time with his dad.

Carter goes to the street clinic where Dr. McNulty is.  He tells the doctor about his diabetes and that he needs to take care of himself.  McNulty is sweeping and cleaning up.  Carter tells him that he will not be able to help anyone if he is dead.  Carter tells him that he could use some new equipment and he writes him a check.  McNulty takes the check and rips it up.  "I'm not here to make you feel better", he tells Carter.  Carter tells him that there must be something that he can do to help.  McNulty tosses him the broom and tells him that he can sweep.

Malik tells Pratt that D.C.F.S. has taken the kids to go see their mother before they leave.  Doug shows up and speaks with Pratt.  He tells Pratt that he doesn't want to let them down and Pratt tells him to just do the best that he can and that will be enough.  Pratt takes him to see them.  Pratt tells Susan that he was out of line before.  Jerry tells Pratt that he has a phone call.  Pratt speaks with a Mr. Knightly on the phone and then tells Jerry that he has to leave.  Kerry sees him leave and is upset.  She is upset with Luka also about how he handled the Scott family and she tells him that the boy hurt himself on purpose to see more of his father.  Elizabeth comes down and tells Luka that Mr. Callahan is in recovery and to get his patients to the OR more promptly from now on.  Luka goes in to Mrs. Callahan's bedside.  He tells her that Tom is out of surgery and that he is okay.  "You can let go now".

Kerry is at her locker getting ready to leave.  Susan walks in and tells her that Pratt has left and that when she was an intern it was a full time job.  Kerry tells her that it still is.  Susan is in her locker getting her things when she remembers that she has bought Kerry an early baby gift.  She goes on and on about it and how cute it is until Kerry interrupts her.  She tells Susan that she isn't pregnant anymore.  "I miscarried", she says in a quiet tone.  Susan tells her how sorry she is and Kerry explains what had happened and thanks her for the thought.  On her way out, Kerry tells Susan that when she sees Pratt, remind him that this is still a full time job and then she tells her goodnight.

Pratt is at the police station and the officer is telling him what happened with Leon.  He was brought in on a 10-29, which is a possible stolen car.  The car was cleaned, but a shotgun with a clipped barrel was found.  Leon was just around the wrong car at the wrong time he tells Pratt.  Leon's record is clean, but the guys he was with were not.  He lets Pratt in to see him, even though it is against the regulations.  He tells Pratt that if he is ever shot, he hopes he ends up at county.  They treat the officers good there.  Leon sees Pratt and tells him not to be mad.  He had gone to tell Dukey and the guys about his new job and they happened to be at the stolen car when the police came.  Pratt tells him not to speak with anybody there until he gets him a lawyer.  Leon tells Pratt to tell Mr. Keegan that he won't be late next time.  Pratt tells Leon that he probably lost his job because he didn't show up for work.  Pratt tells him that he will be back in the morning to get him out.  Leon cries and wants Pratt to take him with him now.  Pratt leaves and Leon keeps crying out to him that he wants to go with him.
