Halloween 5:07 pm
Elizabeth is checking on a patient and is
quizzing two of her new medical students.
One is a man and the other a woman. They
are not to up to date on their medical
knowledge. They are only able to answer
her questions, after she gives them many
suggestions as to the correct answer. She
tells them to go home and study and to be back
in the morning at seven. Dr. Corday tells
Jacy, the nurse, to be sure to tell the patient
not to eat after midnight. She doesn't
want to have to reschedule his hernia operation
again. She then tells her that she is
going home to trick-or-treat with Ella.
Jacy asks what Ella is going to be and she tells
her a cow. Jacy thought that she was a cow
last year and Elizabeth tells her no, Ella was
Dorothy, she was the Cowardly Lion and Mark
(Elizabeth stops for a moment and then
continues) was the Scarecrow. Elizabeth
tells her that she is going to get to be a
farmer this year. As she is getting ready
to leave, a nurse tells her that she has
received a phone call from her medical student,
Nathan, who did not show up for his first day.
He will be there in a few minutes to explain
why. Romano has also asked to speak with
her before she can leave. She tells her to
tell him that she has already left, but Dr.
Romano overhears her, because he is still
listening in over the cordless phone that the
nurse is carrying. Carter
comes in to work dressed up in a skeleton
costume. Abby is also dressed as an old
fashioned nurse, but they are the only two.
They did not receive the memo telling them not
to dress in costumes. Frank tells them
that he doesn't celebrate Pagan holidays; it is
for Satan worshippers. Chuny and Luka are
not getting along together. She doesn't
want to work with him any longer. Susan tells
Abby that she came dressed as a naughty nurse?
Luka replies, Abby is dressed like a slut, whore
type nurse. Abby responds, maybe I should
have dressed in that naughty school girl outfit
you bought me when they were together.
Elizabeth finds Romano in the operating room
doing gallbladder surgery on a pig. She is
surprised and disgusted and he tells her that he
is sharpening his one arm skills. She
tells him that he shouldn't be operating, but he
doesn't listen. He is upset about what
Kerry has done in his absence. Corday
seems to appreciate the proposal that Kerry
made. He does not want Kerry trying to get
his job. Elizabeth notices the pig's eye
open and then all chaos takes place as the pig
comes to. Romano tells her to hold the pig
down.

7:06 pm
Romano is having his arm
checked out by Dr. Marty Klein. He is only
getting ten degrees of movement this week,
compared to fifteen degrees last week, which
upsets Dr. Romano. Dr. Marty tells him
that an injury of this type usually takes nine
months of recovery to show improvement.
Romano wants to know what odds he has to be able
to operate again and he gets a response of
twenty percent, which disappoints him more.
Dr. Marty makes it even worse when he tells him
that he can still be Chief of Staff.
Romano would rather be in the operating room
performing surgeries. He gives Mart the
bird, when he is not looking, and then proceeds
to put is brace back on his arm.
On
his way out, Romano finds a man looking for Dr.
Corday. The man is Paul Nathan, the
medical student who didn't show up earlier.
He follows Romano in to an elevator heading down
to the ER. Upon their arrival, there has
been an apartment fire where a Halloween party
was taking place. The ER is now full of
burn and smoke victims. A woman named Amy
is brought in and she is covered in burns over
eighty percent of her body. A man named Ed
is brought in and his hands have been burned.
Nathan sees Susan and asks if she is Dr. Corday,
and Susan finds out that he is a student and
puts him to work. She wants him to see a
patient who has an infection on his leg from a
bug bite and wants him to mark it so they can
see if it is spreading. The man's
girlfriend is with him. Someone asks how
the fire was started and a man replies that the
"fruits" upstairs were smoking dope.
Nathan marks the leg and explains to the patient
that they want to see if the infection is
spreading. Luka sees him and asks him for
some help with a patient. The patient is
dressed like a woman and his name is Ed.
Luka leaves the medical student alone with him
while he goes to find something. Nathan
tries to answer the man's questions the best
that he can.
Corday and Pratt help a man
with severe burns to the face. Romano
comes in to assist them. The man's name is
Wynn and he was wearing a mask that has melted
on to his face. They need to intubate him
and Romano is trying to open the necessary
equipment, but has trouble doing it with one
arm. When he turns around, Lily bumps in
to his hurt arm and you can see the agonizing
pain on Romano's face. He tells everyone
that he is okay and he leaves the exam room.
He sees that Chen and Luka are doing okay with
their patients, so he goes elsewhere. He
seems upset that he isn't able to assist anyone.
Abby and Carter work on a
girl who was burned badly on eighty percent of
her body. Her name is Amy and she is not
well at all. Dr. Corday is still working
on Wynn when Nathan comes in. She sees who
he is and she reminds him what time rounds
started. He asks her if she read the
letter he sent, but she is too busy and doesn't
want to hear his excuse. Frank comes in
and tells her that her nanny called to remind
her that she has a flight to catch.
Elizabeth tells Frank to tell her to just bring
Ella there. She then tells Nathan to go
work on some patients. Nathan stops and
takes some pills and then checks on his patient
with the infection and sees that he is
spreading. It has spread a lot over the
past twenty minutes. Nathan sees Romano
and tells him about the man. He shows
Romano the x-ray and tells him about the
cellulitus, so Romano goes to see the patient.
Romano wants to take him right up to surgery and
tells Nathan that he did a good job. It
all is happening too fast for the man and his
girlfriend. Susan comes up to see what is
going on. Romano explains to the couple
that the infected tissue needs to be removed,
before it really becomes life threatening.
As they head up to the OR, Nathan asks Susan if
she thinks they caught it in time? She
reassures him that he did and thanks him for his
help. She sees that he is acting a little
sluggish and asks him if he is coming? He
replies that he sometimes has a hard time
getting to go; He has Parkinson's disease.

8:07 pm
Robert is on the speaker
phone telling Lizzy to get up to the OR.
She tells him that she is with a critical
patient and will get up there when she can.
Nathan tells her that he will see her later and
she tells him that he still owes her eight
hours. He reminds her that he has rounds
at 6:00 am and she replies, "Welcome to
surgery". A man in a leopard skin dress
asks Nathan if he knows where Wynn Mathison was
taken to. He is the patient in the tiger
costume he tells him. Nathan takes him to
the admit. desk to see if he can find out.
A nun asks about the burn victims and there is a
larger crowd around the admit. area. Pratt
tells her to keep her habit on, not realizing
that she is a real nun and not just someone in a
costume. He apologizes to her.
Romano is in the OR watching
every move that Dale Edson is doing on the
patient. He wants Corday in there.
Corday is scrubbing in and is talking with her
nanny named Kris. She wants her to take
Ella with her to her apartment and then she will
come by and take her to the airport. She
hands the phone to the nurse, trying to keep her
hands from touching anything, and she bumps her
wedding ring down the sink drain. This
upsets her and she wants the nurse to make sure
maintenance comes to remove it before anyone
runs any more water down the drain.
Pratt and Nathan fill Wynn's
boyfriend, Terry, in on his partner's condition.
Pratt seems uncomfortable about their
relationship. Nathan doesn't seem to be
uncomfortable and shows more compassion to
Terry. Terry has an injury to his eye area
and Pratt tells Nathan to take a look at it and
leaves. The paramedics bring in a man who
is drunk on a mandrake smoothie and he is
frisky. Luka seems to find it funny.
Chuny and Abby assist him with the man.
The man grabs Chuny's behind and she gets upset
at Luka for not seeming to care. She tells
Abby to take care of it and she walks out of the
room.
Corday and Edson work on
their patient, as Romano barks out procedures.
He is concerned about saving the man's leg and
wants to make sure that the two feel the same
way as he. The ER staff are at the admit.
area gossiping about Nathan's disease.
Weaver comes in sick, because of the condition
of the crowded ER. She is hot and everyone
else is cold. Pratt comments on how she
must be going through the change and Susan takes
offense to the remark. Weaver meets Nathan
and they head out to meet the paramedics who is
bringing in a woman, named Simone, and newborn
baby that was delivered at home by a midwife.
The baby is not doing well at all, but the
mother is okay. She is losing blood
because she is still carrying the placenta.
Gallant and Lily assist Weaver with the mother,
while Luka and Abby assist the baby. Luka
shows Nathan how to intubate the baby. He
wants Nathan to bag the baby and sees his hands
shake. He tells him not to be nervous, not
knowing of his condition. Nathan is able
to assist. Luka tells Abby that he is not
sure of what is wrong with the baby.
Back in the OR, Dale Edson
and Corday are still operating. They
insist that they need to amputate the leg before
his condition worsens, but Romano still wants to
save it. She tells him that it is a
hopeless wound and that he is young and should
be able to handle a prosthetic. Romano
tells them to just take it then. He is
feeling remorse over his own loss of his arm.

9:09 pm
Nathan checks on a boy named
Toby. Nathan is a little wobbly and when
he leaves, Toby asks his father what is wrong
with him. His father tells him that he
will talk with him later about it. Abby
sees him and walks over to see how he is doing.
He tells her that he likes her retro outfit and
they talk about his condition. He tells
her that he is taking more medicine than usually
to keep him from freezing up, but it takes a
while for it to take hold. It causes his
movements to be shaky. She tells him that
if she was in his condition, she would be seeing
the world and not going to med. school. He
replies that he has already seen the world and
that is when he found out that he had the
disease. He knew something was wrong when
he was in Italy. They go and check on
Simone, the mother who had the bay at home.
Luka has returned with the baby's lab results,
and they are not good. He has a disease
called Sialidosis. He explains that the
baby's body lacks an enzyme that breaks down the
waste protein inside the cells. He already
has extensive damage to his liver, bones and
nervous system. Luka sees that Nathan is
wobbling, so he asks him coldly to lease excuse
them and Nathan leaves the room. Luka
tells the mother that a baby in that condition
only has a life expectancy of less than two
years. He may be blind, never speak or
walk and will be retarded. Lily tells LUka
that he has a call from the PICU and Luka leaves
the room. Abby removes her retro nurse's
hat and asks Simone if there is anyone that she
can call. Simone replies, "No, there is
just us". Abby leaves the room. Abby
sees Luka hanging up the phone and she speaks
with him. She tells him that he was
insensitive earlier with Nathan. Luka
tells her that he felt uncomfortable telling
Simone the bad news in front of an audience.
She tells him that the nurses have been
complaining to her about him and that if he has
a problem, to come and speak with her about it.
She tells him that he should be fighting for the
nurses and not with them. He makes a bad
comment to her sewing on some swastikas on her
nurses outfit and becoming a Nazi nurse.
She stands stunned at the comment and then
replies, "You totally suck, you know
that?". She heads off and he yells to her
that she is the one creating a hostile working
environment.
Nathan can't find Luka, so he
gets Dr. Weaver to check on the baby, who has a
high fever. She wants to do a spinal tap
to see where the infection is coming from.
Elizabeth goes to use the phone and sees Romano
sitting quietly alone. They discuss the
surgery, but this is no consolation to him.
She tells him that after she had Ella, she had a
hard time treating young patients, but she got
over it. He opens up and tells her that he
knows that he is not liked by many, but he does
know that he is a good surgeon and is good at
what he does. He saves people's lives
everyday. If he can do that... He is
unable to finish the sentence. Elizabeth
sees his pain and she comes closer to speak with
him. She tells him that she knows that he
is an excellent surgeon and that he will be
again. Romano touches her softly on her
cheek and her eyes grow big. She tells him
that she is being paged. She stands and
leaves the room. She pauses outside the
door and then continues to go to the ER.
The nanny has brought Ella in, so that she can
catch her flight. Elizabeth apologizes and
tells her that they got busy and that she was
unable to get away. She will see her when
she returns in a few days. Carter is with
Amy and she is not doing well at all.
Elizabeth asks Lily to take Ella. Luka is
upset when he sees Chuny and Nathan treating the
baby. They tell him that they are
following Weaver's orders. Luka is very
upset that they are putting the baby and mother
through all this unnecessary workup.
Nathan goes in to where Elizabeth and the others
are treating Amy. Chuny comes in and tells
Abby that she is filing a grievance on Luka.
Elizabeth needs to give Amy an IV and Nathan
tries to help, but he punctures the bag.
She asks him what he is doing? She tells
him to go and see if he can find Amy's family
and he walks out of the trauma room. Abby
tells Elizabeth that she is being too hard on
him considering. Elizabeth replies,
"Considering what?". Abby replies that he
has Parkinson's and Elizabeth had no idea.

10:09 pm
The doctors are still trying to save Amy.
Elizabeth asks how long she has been down and
Abby tells her twelve minutes. Just then,
they get a pulse. Out in the hallway, Abby
sees Chuny throw Luka a paper, she tells him
that it is the baby's labs. Luka tells her
thank you as she walks away still angry at him.
Abby realizes what is wrong with Chuny.
Luka slept with her. Luka tells Abby that
it was just one time. Abby reminds him
about the mother that he slept with in the ER a
few weeks earlier and he tells her that she
never minded it. Abby tells him that she
never let it effect her work. Abby tells
him to apologize to Chuny, but Luka doesn't want
to kiss her butt. Abby replies, "That's
how this whole problem started".
Wynn's partner Terry watches as Wynn is taken up
to Intensive Care. Pratt tells him what is
happening and then dismisses him. Terry
replies that if he would have told them that he
was family, they would have let him go with him.
Pratt tells him to go home and get some rest,
but Terry reminds him that everything they had
burned up. Everything except for the
leopard skin print dress that he is wearing.
Luka sees Simone with her baby. She tells
him how the baby reacts to her touch and tells
him how long she has waited to have a baby.
His fever has come down slightly, but his
condition is still serious. She tells Luka
that she has had two miscarriages, lost
boyfriends and has been through a lot of
procedures to have this baby. Luka tells
her that his organs will shut down, but Simone
still speaks with her baby boy. Luka asks
her what she would like to do. She
replies, "I don't know, "I don't know".
Elizabeth
finds Nathan and he is holding Ella. He
tells her that Lily had to go do something and
she gets him to hand Ella to her. She asks
him if he reached Amy's parents and then asks
why he didn't tell her. He could have
saved her the embarrassment. He is a
little upset to know that his condition has
embarrassed her. She wants to start over
and tells him of her demands. He will have
to make rounds, read his books and pass his
tests. He tells her in frustration that he
has done enough reading and that he is there to
treat patients. She is willing to pass him
if he follows her demands, but this does not
interest him. He wants to be treated like
all of the other students. She replies,
"You're not like other students". Corday
gets called away and she tells him to return
tomorrow as she leaves. Abby
finds Weaver sleeping and wakes her up.
She wipes the drool from the side of her mouth
and Abby tells her that she needs her to
pronounce a patient. She asks Abby if the
NICU ever got the baby, but Abby tells her that
it is too late. She points out that the
baby died and Weaver sees Simone holding him and
rocking him. Abby tells her that Luka
convinced Simone to sign a DNR. Weaver
asks where he is and Abby tells her that he has
already gone home. She tells her to call a
social worker down to speak with Simone and
offer her some grief counseling.
Carter is treating a drunk named Woody who gets
a little fresh with Abby when she walks up.
This puts Carter in a playful mood with Abby as
they walk away. Elizabeth bumps in to
Romano on her way out with Ella. He has
gathered her wedding band from the drain and
this surprises her. He tells her what
happened earlier was just a momentary weakness
on his part and that it will not happen again.
She tells him that he will get through what is
bothering him. Elizabeth and Ella get on
the train and head home. The next morning,
Elizabeth is doing rounds with the same two
medial students as the day before. They
are still having trouble answering her
questions. Paul Nathan arrives, late, and
is able to answer what she asks.
