Elizabeth
is sleeping, until the phone rings. It
is her 6:30 AM wake-up call. She gets up
and glances over at Ella sleeping and then
heads to the bathroom. The scene changes
and we are looking in the bathroom mirror at
Mark shaving. He cuts himself with the
razor on the neck. Elizabeth is helping
Ella with a puzzle when someone knocks on the
door. Elizabeth answers it and it is the
baby-sitter. She is early.
Elizabeth goes to write her a check, but she
tells Elizabeth that Dr. Greene has already
paid her up for the month. Rachel looks
in on Rachel who is finishing up her
homework. Mark asks her to be ready in
20 minutes. Mark has gotten off of the
El and is heading down the stairs of the
platform. We can see Elizabeth looking
down at him, trying to avoid any contact.

Elizabeth is upset because
Romano has scheduled her to cover the
ER. He tells her that is has been over a
month and he is tired of having to do
it. She tells him that she will start
covering it next week, but he tells her
no. Mark takes care of Joanne. Her
husband Paul brought her in after she felt
lightheaded and tingly. They have been
tracking down a black-crowned heron.
Mark asks her if there have been any other
problems and Paul tells him that she has had
an upset stomach, but she blames the food he
prepared the night before on it. Paul
also tells Mark that Joanne is prone to panic
attacks, but she denies it. They
remember that they have some wood duck eggs
with them that they had found and they ask
Mark if he can find somewhere warm to keep
them while he sends Joanne off for some
tests. They think that the eggs are
about ready to hatch. Mark walks up to
the front desk and Jerry offers him a
vegetarian brownie that he sister has
baked. She is going to be opening up her
own pastry shop. Mark tells him no
thanks. Gallant has arrived to work and
is still in uniform. He has been at a
recruitment breakfast and did not have time to
change. Mark hands him the eggs and
tells him to take care of them. Dr.
Weaver and Dr. Chen hand him two patients and
he exclaims that he is there to serve.
Abby tells Weaver that a stabbing victim is
rolling up. Susan asks Mark if he has
tried one of Jerry's brownies, she does not
like them. Dr. Corday has been called
down to the ER for a surgical consult.
Dr. Chen signs for a package that has been
delivered for Dr. Kovac, who is not scheduled
to work. The delivery man just stands
there and will not speak. Dr. Chen
thinks that something might be wrong.
She looks at his name tag and sees that is
name is Martin. The paramedics roll in
with a teacher who was in a fire at a local
elementary school. Kerry thinks that she
is the stabbing victim, but they tell her that
she was at the school fire saving all of the
kids when she got smoke inhalation. Dr.
Chen takes a look at her. The stabbing
victim is brought in. Her name is Diane
Hayes and she is nineteen-years-old.
Abby tells Carter that she has finished up on
her patient that was bitten by a German
Shepherd and now she is going home.
Carter asks her why she is still working
vampire hours. He tells her that he has
several spare rooms at his house if Luka is
keeping her up all night. He tells her
that a girl needs her beauty sleep.
Susan sees Carter talking with Abby.
When Abby leaves, she asks him if he is having
any luck. He tells her to stop it.
As Susan backs away from Carter, she bumps in
to Elizabeth, who is working on a
patient. Susan apologizes and walks
away. Elizabeth's patient is her
surgical consult, Nelson. He has glass
in his head from a candle that was thrown at
him. Haleh sees Corday and tells her
that Weaver needs a surgeon in Exam One.
Gallant sees Haleh and asks her where the baby
warmers are. He is still trying to take
care of the eggs that Mark had given
him. When Elizabeth arrives in Exam One,
she learns that the stabbing victim had been
stabbed in her bed. Marks is already
working on the girl. He tells Elizabeth
that he thought Edson was the surgical consult
covering the ER. Haleh tells them that
the girl has defensive wounds on both of her
arms. Kerry asks Shelley, the girl who
is with the victim, what time she found
her. She tells Kerry that when she found
her, she thought she was dead. She also
tells Kerry that everyone likes her. She
doesn't think that the victim had any
enemies. Susan comes in to get
Mark. Elizabeth sees the
interaction. Mark tells Susan to call
and see if she can get him another time for
his appointment. Elizabeth notices the
Band-Aid on Mark's neck. Mark tells her
that her Mom called and woke him up at 4:00
AM. She still hasn't got them time
difference down. Elizabeth apologizes to
him. Carter is at the vending machines
waiting for Dr. Chen's patient, Martin, to
make a decision on what he wants to buy.
Dr. Chen sees him there and tells Carter that
something is just not quite right about
him. Carter wonders if he might be deaf,
but he isn't. Dr. Chen asks him if
different things hurt, and he nods his head
yes when she asks him if his stomach
hurts. Carter says that he may be
hungry. She asks how many days has it
been since he has eaten and he holds up two
fingers. Romano and Corday are operating
on the stabbing victim. He says that she
must have made someone really angry when he
sees that she has fifteen knife wounds.
Romano tells Corday that she missed a lot on
her assessment of the girl and wonders where
her mind was at. He asks her if she and
her hubby are still fighting and she ignores
him. She doesn't want Romano's advice
when he offers it. Mark has the results
of Joanne's lab results. She is having
liver problems and he wonders what might have
caused it. They name off some of the
things she has eaten and find out that she has
eaten some bad mushrooms. This is
probably what has caused her liver
damage. He asks if she has any family
that she can call, she may need to have a
transplant. Another stab victim was
found and is brought in to the ER. She
is a female in her twenties. A knife was
found at the scene. She was found in the
University Science room. Police are
still there searching for the assailant.
Lily runs in to the exam room and tells Weaver
that a wall has collapsed at the school that
is on fire and wonders how many victims they
can take. She tells her that they can
handle three critical and four minors.
As Weaver and Chen are working on the stabbing
victim, Chen notices her patient Martin
looking in the exam door window. She
asks for someone to take him in to Curtain
area one. Dr. Chen tells Kerry that they
are going to have to tube the girl, but Kerry
says to wait. She is trying to say
something. The girl mumbles to Kerry, I
loved her.

Elizabeth walks up and sees
Susan putting drops in Mark's eyes.
Elizabeth is there to go with Mark to talk
with his patient's sister about the
transplant. Elizabeth asks him about a
charge on their credit card to New York.
He tells her that it was for a phone
order. They bring in Terry Welch to see
her sister Joanne. Terry is surprised to
see her there. She doesn't know what is
going on. Paul did not fill her in on
the phone as to what is going on. Joanne
tells her that she may need a liver
transplant. Terry tells her that she is
in the playoffs and doesn't want to miss
it. Mark tells her that they might not
have much time. They only need the right
lob of her liver and it will grow back.
There will be a recovery period and she
wouldn't be able to play in the
playoffs. She tells them to stop and let
her think about it. Kerry walks by and
sees Shelley in the exam room with
Renee. Kerry tells her that she should
be lying down. They are monitoring
Shelley because she passed out in the exam
room earlier. Shelley asks Kerry what
Renee Carlson is doing there. Kerry
tells her that she was also stabbed.
Shelley tells her that Renee is Diane's
roommate. Kerry asks her if they were
close and she tells her no. Renee is
kind of weird and Diane was going to be moving
out in a couple of weeks to live with
her. Kerry tells Shelley that Diane has
died. Jing-Mei goes to speak with
Martin. She tells him that she called
his house and heard his voice on the answering
machine, so she knows that he can speak.
She tells him to quit playing games with him
and he gets upset. Elizabeth walks
outside to talk with Terry about helping her
sister. She tells Corday that she is a
senior and this will be the last time that she
will be in the playoffs. Elizabeth tells
her that she is her sister's best chance and
this lets Terry know that she is a match for
the transplant. Elizabeth tells her that
her sister would do it for her and Terry
responds to her that she would not. As
they are talking, a car runs head on into the
vending cart and knocks Charlie, the vendor,
to the ground. Elizabeth rushes to help
him and he tells her that he has been covered
in hot water. Mark hears the noise and
runs outside. Elizabeth tells him to
help the people in the car. It is a boy,
his parents, and his doctor. They tell
Mark that the boy, Viktor has been unconscious
for about twenty minutes. He was under
water in the tub for two minutes. He is
only eight-years-old. In the exam room,
Jing-Mei asks the doctor if they tried to resuscitate
him on the way to the ER, and she tells them
no. Dr. Chen rolls her eyes and looks at
Mark. Kerry and Corday are in the next
exam room tending to Charlie. Lily comes
in to get Corday. Her baby-sitter is
outside in the hall with Ella. Mark asks
Felicia Kind, the doctor that is with his
patient's family, if she is a real
doctor. She tells him that she is a
Socialization therapist. Her cell phone
rings and Mark tells her that she has to take
it outside. Mark sees Elizabeth with the
sitter and Ella. The sitter tells
Elizabeth that they were on their way back
from the baby gym and Ella just said it.
Ella opens her mouth and tells Elizabeth,
Dada. Mark is still with Viktor and he
wants to know why three adults were giving an
eight-year-old a bath. The father tells
him that they were recreating the womb by
playing a bonding game. Elizabeth comes
in and tells Mark that he should get out there
with his daughter. She has something to
tell him. Corday goes back in to tend to
Charlie. Kerry is with him and he tells
Elizabeth that she deserted him. Corday
tells him that he is in perfectly good
hands. He doesn't like Weaver because
she doesn't shop at his vending cart.
Weaver tells him that it is because he is over
priced. Haleh comes to get Weaver.
Weaver goes to speak with Mrs. Carlson,
Renee's mother. Kerry tells her of her
daughter's condition. She will be going
up to the Intensive Care Unit soon.
Kerry tells her about Diana's death.
This upsets her, because Renee and Diana were
such good friends. Kerry asks her if
Renee has been having any trouble at
school. Mrs. Carlson is tired of people
asking her that. She tells Kerry
no. Kerry tells her that Diana had
defensive wounds on her hands and that Renee
didn't. Mrs. Carlson tells her that
Renee didn't hurt her or hurt herself.
Kerry replies that she is sure that Renee will
tell them what happened when she wakes
up. Mark tells Viktor's parents that
their son is stable and that a social worker
will be coming down to speak with them.
The father tells Mark that they adopted Viktor
in Prague last year, but he didn't connect
with them. That is why they hired the
therapist to help him to bond with his new
family. Mark tells him that they put
their son in a lot of danger. Carter
comes down the hall and he is with Stan.
Stan is still seeing things. He is
seeing pink flamingos and Kerry tells him that
when she spoke to him he was seeing
butterflies. Corday is looking for
Mark. Jerry tells her that he checked
out for an hour and that Dr. Lewis is covering
for him. Gallant sees Lewis and asks
where she is going with the baby warmer.
She tells him, but he doesn't see the eggs he
was supposed to be watching. Corday sees
Susan and asks to speak with her. She
wants to know where her husband is.
Susan tells her that she needs to talk with
him. What would be going on that he
wouldn't want Elizabeth to know about?
What would he be protecting her from?
Elizabeth catches the hint and heads to
Radiology. The nurse there tells her
that his treatment has just started. She
takes Elizabeth to him. She sees her
husband getting his treatment and he see her
looking on.

Carter is taking care of a
firefighter that was at the school fire.
Kerry assists him. She asks if they got
everyone out and he tells her that there are
still three firefighters missing. She
pries more and learns that Lopez is one of
them. Elizabeth speaks with Mark about
his condition. She asks him how much
time he has. He tells her that if the
treatment works, he has about ten
months. She says that they should go see
Dr. Burke, and then it clicks that is why
there is a charge on the Visa card to New
York. She asks him why he didn't tell
her, she could have been helping him.
She doesn't want him to be alone. Mark
gets up and is heading back to work. She
can't believe that he is going to work after
his treatment. He tells her that he
doesn't know what else to do. Dr. Chen
sees Martin and asks him if he has spoken to
the lady from the Psychiatric
department. Martin begins to cry.
Whatever it is making him cry has to do with
the scarf and hat that he is wearing that
someone had knitted for him. Kerry
checks on a little boy named Danny
Barnett. He is a kid from the school
fire. He tells Kerry that a fire lady
road in the ambulance with him. She asks
if the lady was hurt and he tells her that he
doesn't think so, she was telling him
jokes. Kerry tells Jerry to call Unit 38
and see if all of the firefighters are
accounted for. He tells her that they
are probably still busy with the fire and she
tells him to just do it. Carter asks
Susan if she has seen Dr. Greene. Susan
tells Carter that she can help him with his
patient. He tells Susan that he scoped a
lighter from a kid's belly and he is going to
keep it with all of the other things he has
scoped out. She can't believe that he
has kept all of the disgusting things.
She even sees a pen that she has been
missing. She wants it back, until he
tells her that he scoped it from the other
end. Elizabeth gets off of the elevator
and sees Terry. Terry tells her that she
has decided not to do the liver transplant for
her sister. This upsets Elizabeth, but
Terry is sure that she isn't going to do
it. Elizabeth goes in to Dr. Romano's
office and begins to cry. He walks in
and thinks that she is hiding out from the
ER. When he sees her crying, he goes
over to see what is wrong. She tells him
that Mark's tumor is back. From what she
tells him, he knows that it is the
worse. He tells her that he is
sorry. She tells Romano that Mark has
known for weeks and didn't even tell her about
it. There is so much that they haven't
been worked out. She is sick and tired
of being the strong one. Is she supposed
to just go back home to watch him die?
Romano tells her yes. He asks her if he
is her husband and if she still loves
him. She tells him yes.

Adele comes down and is
talking with Dr. Chen. She tells her
that the police had found Martin's mother dead
on the bathroom floor and Martin was the one
who found her there. She must have been
the one who knitted him those items. He
has been traumatized by the incident and has
not spoken since. Martin has a sister in
Louisville coming to take care of him.
Adele goes in to speak with Viktor's
parents. Mark stands outside of the room
and speaks with their Socialization
doctor. He tells her that she is lucky
that Viktor didn't die. She tells him
that she has had a good record of helping families
connect. Haleh gets Mark and tells him
that Viktor is moving and waking up.
They run in to see him. Viktor reaches
for his mother's hand and they all see that
the bonding exercise must have been a
breakthrough. Mark and Adele look on and
see that what was done was borderline
abuse. Dr. Green begins to feel bad and
tells them that he has to go. He tells
Kerry that he will finish up his paperwork on
his next shift. She tells him that this
shift isn't over with yet. He replies
that he has just went for his first
Chemo-therapy treatment and is going
home. Kerry, Carter and Gallant look
shocked as he walks out. Luka comes home
and sees Abby sitting drinking a beer and
looking through the paper for a new place to
live. He calls her a couch tomato and
she corrects him and tells him that it is a
couch potato. She then tells him that a
girl named Michelle called. He had
already forgotten about giving her his
number. Abby reminds him that he is
supposed to be taking Michelle to the Ice
Capades. She then tells him that she
tried to explain to Michelle that they were
just roommates. Luka is not sure if he
likes Michelle anyway. Abby hasn't had
any luck finding her a cheap place to
live. Luka tells her that he is going to
jump in the shower. She tells him that
he doesn't want to keep Tai and Randi
waiting. Carter is on his way out and
sees Susan outside. He knows now why she
has been spending so much time with Dr.
Greene. Gallant is on his way out also
and is back in his uniform. They see
that he is hiding something in his coat and he
opens it to reveal some baby ducks. As
they are looking at them, Susan causes him to
drop one of the eggs. She then
apologizes. Kerry is standing by Lopez's
car when she walks up. Kerry tells her
that she has been looking for her. When
she heard that she was in the fire, she was
worried. Lopez tells her that she is
touched. Kerry tells her that she was
right before to do her the favor (referring to
the time that she ousted her by kissing her in
front of the staff in the ER). Kerry
leans over and kisses Lopez. Lopez then
starts to speak about the fire and Kerry leans
over and kisses her again and hugs her.
Elizabeth and Ella have gone back home to the
Greene house. She sees Rachel and asks
her where her dad is. Rachel tells her
that he is upstairs. She asks Rachel if
she could watch Ella and she hands her to her,
thanking her as she walks up to see
Mark. Rachel remarks to Elizabeth, he is
sick again isn't he? Elizabeth goes
upstairs to find Mark on the bathroom
floor. He has been vomiting
severely. He tells her that he has been
doing it for an hour. She gets him a
cold cloth to put on his forehead. She
tells him that she tried for weeks to get Ella
to say Mama or moon. He tells her that
they always say Dada first. She says
that it is because it is easier today.
He tells her that maybe she just likes
him. She replies that maybe she is just
a good judge of character. He starts to
throw up again and Elizabeth offers to go get
him something, but he tells her to stay.
It will pass.

ESTRANGED GREENE AND CORDAY
CAN'T AVOID THEIR CONVERGING LIVES -- Drs.
Corday (Alex Kingston) and Greene (Anthony
Edwards) continue to awkwardly bump into each
other in the ER while Dr. Weaver (Laura Innes)
treats victims of a raging inferno -- one that
might have cost the life of her intimate
firefighter friend (guest star Lisa Vidal).
While Corday suspects her husband is
romantically involved with Dr. Lewis (Sherry
Stringfield), Greene is stumped when he asks the
reluctant sister (guest star Megalyn Echikunwoke)
of a severely ill woman (guest star Klea Scott)
to donate part of her liver that would save her
sister's life. In addition: Greene chastises the
adoptive parents of an uncommunicative young boy
who almost dies after experimental therapy; Dr.
Chen (Ming-Na) is shadowed by a disturbed man
(guest star Kyle Colerider-Krugh) who is the
victim of severe psychological trauma; the
doctors react to several college coeds after
they are attacked on campus by a madman; a
couple of senior citizen adulterers are busted
in the ER. Noah Wyle, Goran Visnjic, Maura
Tierney, Paul McCrane and Sharif Atkins also
star.
