Luka wakes Abby up by grinding
coffee beans. She has been sleeping on his
couch. Luka checks her eyes to see if it is
healing okay. Carter goes by Susan's place, but
she does not answer the door. As he leaves, she
walks up the sidewalk. She has been out all
night. He was meeting her to go to a yoga class.
She tells him that she was at Mark's. This makes
Carter very jealous, especially after she tells him
that she slept on Mark's sofa.

Carter and Susan are on their way in to work.
He is still having a hard time understanding
what Susan was doing spending the night at
Mark's house. Susan tells Carter that she
and Mark are just friends and that he has
nothing to worry about. Carter tells Susan
that she would be just as jealous and upset if
he had spent the night at another woman's house.
Susan mentions Abby, but Carter tells her that
he was going to mention Darla in Radiology.
Susan doesn't believe that Carter was going to
mention Darla, she knows he was going to say
Abby. Susan tells him that she would have
been upset if he would have stayed the night at
Abby's place. She knows that Carter has an
attraction to Abby, unlike her and Mark.
She tells him that Mark is like a brother, but
Carter still doesn't think so. Just as
they arrive at the ER, Kerry stops them to tell
them that they have a patient being brought in.
Michael Gallant is on his way in to work also.
Dr. Chen, Chuny and Yosh are gossiping about Dr.
Greene and Corday. They are feeling one
another in on what they have heard about their
separation. "The Mistress of Pain" is with
her client, who is in a hood. He was
injured while under her care and this is the
patient that Carter and Susan are checking on.
He was injured after he fell from her torture
swing. His problem is with his back.
Abby and Malik are assisting the doctors.
Dr. Kovac has come to see what all the fuss is
about. Carter notices that the woman has a
dislocated finger, but she does not want to
leave the room with all of her "supplies" still
there. She wants Carter to fix the finger
right there, but he tells her that it is going
to be painful. She doesn't seem to mind.
Carter pops the finger back into place and the
woman doesn't even flinch. The woman
follows her hooded client up to x-ray.
Susan sees that the woman has left her bag of
goodies behind, so she and Abby have a bright
idea to peek inside of it. Carter and
Kovac tell them that they had better not get
inside the bag, but the girls do not listen to
them. They rummage through the bag and all
of them get involved in what they see.
Just has everyone is caught with items from the
bag, Kerry walks in to the room. She is
shocks at what she sees. She can not
believe what they have done and how they have
involved Gallant in all of it. Kerry is
concerned about a lawsuit being filed and then
really gets more upset to find out that the
items belonged to a patient. Kerry tells
them that she will have to go to Human Resources
about all of this. Kerry leaves them and
then heads into the next room to chew Gallant
out. Carter and Luka thank Abby and Susan
for getting them involved.
Abby sees Gallant and asks him if he is okay.
Gallant seems angry that he had to get mixed up
in their shenanigans. Susan sees Kerry in
the break room and tells her that she is the one
who started the whole thing by opening the bag.
She wanted to let her know that before she heads
up to HR to tell them what had happened.
Kerry opens her locker and an item from the bag
is in it. This apparently angers Kerry
even more. Abby is looking for a room 224.
When she finds it and opens the door, Gallant,
Carter, Susan and Luka are there. Carter
tells her that she is late. They are there
for a lecture on Sexual Harassment and it is
suppose to last all day. Carter is
apparently very upset that he has to be there.
He reminds Abby and Susan that it is their
faults that they are all there. Susan then
jokes about what Kerry found in her locker.
They all wonder who it was that put it there.

The group of five are still waiting in room 224
for the teacher to arrive. Susan is
looking at the chalkboard and wonders if the
writing on it is from Whitman. Abby tells
her that she knows Whitman and Susan is
surprised to hear it. Abby takes offense
to her surprise. Carter does not want to
keep waiting for the teacher to arrive.
Gallant wants them to stay. Carter tells
him that this is not the Marines and Gallant
tells Carter that he is in the Army, not the
Marines. Luka agrees with Gallant that
they should all wait for the teacher to arrive.
Abby and Susan discuss the reality TV Shows that
they like to watch. Abby likes watching
Survivor and Susan tells them that she likes
watching Fear Factor. Carter can not
believe that anyone would want to watch that
sort of television. Abby tells Carter to
shut up. Susan knows why Carter is in such
a bad mood. She knows that he is still
upset about her spending the night at Mark's
house. Susan tells Abby all about it and
explains that Mark once had a crush on her, but
that they are only friends. Carter still
wants to know why she spent the night, but Susan
will not tell him. Luka announces that
Abby has been sleeping on his couch.
Everybody's ears and eyes open wide. Abby
tells them that it is only until she gets a new
place to stay. Susan tells Carter that he
is probably more upset about that than he is
with her having spent the night at Mark's.
Susan tells Abby that Carter has not gotten over
her yet. Carter tries to change the
subject and talk about football, but nobody
seems to be interested. Abby and Gallant
discuss him being in the Army. He tells
her that he is in the Army Reserves and that
they are paying for his medical school.
Abby tells Gallant that Luka was in the Army and
that she has a brother in the Air Force.
This opens up the conversation for Gallant.
He tells the group that he has six siblings and
that all, but two of them are in the service.
His brother, Steve is only fourteen and he has a
twin sister who has cerebral palsy.
Gallant asks Susan about her father and she
jokes that he is a test pilot for a lounging
chair and that he is trying to keep his
cholesterol above 400. This makes the
group laugh. Luka tells the group that his
father is a painter. He is an artist and
not a house painter. He pays the bills by
being a train conductor. Abby had no idea
and Luka tells her that it is because she had
never asked. Abby tells them that she has
no idea what her father does. Everyone's
attention goes to Carter when Gallant asks him
about his father. Susan tells them that
his father is loaded. They all try to
guess how much Carter is worth, but he will not
tell them. Abby can't understand why
Carter hasn't married someone yet and he replies
that his Gamma had a gold digger alarm implanted
in him when he was born. Susan can't
believe that she hasn't set the alarm off yet.
The group seems resentful that Carter had such
an easy life, but he says that it wasn't always
easy. The rest of them grew up happy, even
though they did not have a lot of money. A
woman comes in to the room and they all give her
their attention. She tells them that Dr.
Taylor has been delayed and that he has asked
them to wait for him to arrive. The group
seems less than enthused.

Carter has found a locked door in the room and
is wondering what could be behind it. Abby
has left the room and returned with some snacks
from the vending machines. They all begin
discussing a play and Luka knows it. He
explains what the play means and they all find
it very depressing, especially Susan.
Carter jokes about how bad it is overseas and
Luka defends his homeland. He tells them
that Croatia is safe now and Carter wonders why
he came to America then. Luka tells them
that he came to America because of the BBQ.
Susan wonders how Luka got inside of Kerry's
locker. He tells her that it was not him.
Carter tells them that it must have been Susan,
but she denies that it was her. Gallant
tells them that he minored in English Literature
at Howard University. Abby tells them that
she did also, but it was at Penn State.
Susan looks surprised about Abby went there.
Abby asks Susan if she thought she just went to
a community college because she was just a
nurse. She tells all of the doctors there
in the room that they are all the same.
Gallant tells her that he doesn't feel the same
way about doctors thinking that they are smarter
than nurses. Abby assures him that after
he is finished with medical school that he will
be the same way as the others. She
compares it to a social class status and says
that they feel the same way about families in
the military. Gallant has to agree with
her about that. She tells them that she
was second in her class when she was in medical
school. Carter tells them all that Abby
was kicked out of medical school because her
ex-husband, Richard, did not pay the bills.
Abby corrects Carter by telling them that she
made a choice not to finish medical school.
She would rather be a nurse and have time with
the patients instead of being a doctor who has
to see so many more patients in a day.
Carter finally opens the locked door. He
finds fencing equipment in the closet.
Carter tells them that he use to fence in school
and Luka tells him that he knows how to also.
Luka tells them that he learned while is was
acting in college. The girls are not
impressed about Carter and Luka fencing.
Susan mentions to Abby that she knows that she
has slept with both Luka and Carter. Abby
quickly tells her that she has not slept with
Carter. Abby tells Susan that Carter made
that story up. Susan tells Abby that she
has not slept with Carter either. Abby
shares with Susan the second date theory.
Susan is not sure about her chemistry with
Carter and she tells Abby that she thinks it is
because Carter is interested in her.
Carter and Luka continue to fence and things are
getting rough. Luka and Carter act as if
they are going to kill each other. Carter
ends up getting cut on the arm by Luka's sword.
Luka is ready to stop, but Carter wants to
continue. Carter cuts Luka on his back and
Abby and Susan are watching on. They do
not think they should continue fighting.
Luka ends up cutting Carter's face and he starts
to bleed. Carter is angry and goes after
Luka. The rest of the group pull them
apart. Susan tends to Carter and Abby
tends to Luka. Carter is going to be okay,
but he is still angry with Luka. Susan
kisses Carter and tells him that it is for the
second date rule.

The group is
still waiting for Dr. Taylor to arrive.
Susan accuses Gallant of getting into Kerry's
locker. He denies it also. Abby and
Susan talk about where Susan was before she came
back to Chicago. Susan tells Abby about
Arizona. Abby can not understand why she
would have come back. Susan tells her that
she was trying to get away from an old
boyfriend. She tells Abby that he was a
cowboy. Gallant and Luka talk about the
service. Abby wonders how old Luka was
when he became a man. Susan explains that
she is asking him when he lost his virginity.
They are wondering who was the youngest in the
room when they lost their virginity. Abby
admits that she was sixteen. The guy's
name was Howie Thomas. Susan says that she
was only fifteen and the guy's name was Floyd
Walker. Gallant chimes in and says he was
only fourteen-years-old. He lost his in
church with Tonya McBride. Carter tells
them all that he was eleven when he lost his
virginity. He lost it with a
twenty-five-year-old maid. Everyone looks
very surprised. They ask him if they paid
her and he says yes. They were asking if
the family paid her to have sex with him and he
was replying that the family paid her for being
a maid. They then ask Luka and he is
reluctant to reply, but he does. He tells
them that it was with his wife on their wedding
night. They are quiet when he answers and
he tells them that they were in love and that it
is okay to have mentioned it. Susan then
asks Luka about what acting he has done in
college. He tells them that he played
Hamlet in Croatian. It has been a long
time and he can't seem to remember any of the
lines. Carter has done Hamlet also, so he
starts to quote some lines. He doesn't
seem to be very convincing, so Luka interrupts
and starts speaking them. He does it in
English and finishes up in Croatian. He
has Abby and Susan's complete attention.
Dr. John Taylor finally arrives. The
lecture is over and the group is heading out.
Luka wants to know if anyone needs a ride.
Gallant and Abby both have to go to work.
Gallant will walk to work with Abby. Luka
tells Abby that he will see her later.
Luka shakes Carter's hand and then he leaves.
Susan seems to really like Abby. She tells
Carter that she is pretty great. Susan
tells Carter to kiss her. When he does,
she doesn't feel any chemistry. They
mutually agree that things are not working out
between them. He jokes about Mark Greene
being available, but she doesn't find it funny.
Susan tells Carter that he should tell Abby that
he loves her. Carter wants to know if they
can still be friends and she jokingly tells him
no and that she hates him. Carter walks
away and then turns around to tell Susan that he
use to have Weaver's locker. She never had
the combination changed. Susan is shocked
and amazed that it was Carter who put the item
in Kerry's locker.

CHANGE-OF-PACE EPISODE STRIPS
POLITE VENEER OFF DOCTORS WHO ARE ORDERED TO
ATTEND SEMINAR -- In a dramatic change-of-pace
episode, after a bout of horseplay following a
dominatrix' appearance in the ER, Dr. Weaver
(Laura Innes) orders Abby (Maura Tierney), Dr.
Carter (Noah Wyle), Dr. Lewis (Sherry
Stringfield), Dr. Kovac (Goran Visjnic) and Dr.
Gallant (Sharif Atkins) into a day-long sexual
harassment seminar -- which unleashes a torrent
of truth about their mutual relationships. While
the class is delayed for a tardy instructor, the
five share intimate details while alternately
mocking and challenging each other -- especially
with the thorny romantic attractions involving
Abby and Lewis with Carter. What's more, Carter
and Kovac kill time by engaging in a roughhouse
round of fencing that speaks volumes about their
contending interest in Abby. Ming-Na also stars
in a script written by executive producer John
Wells.
