Dr. Greene is in New York to see his doctor, Dr. Burke.  Dr. Burke tells Mark that his tumor is growing back.  It is hard for Mark to believe, but it finally settles in when Dr. Burke tells him that it is conclusive.  Mark is ready to set up an operation, but Dr. Burke tells him that he will not operate; it will cause too many more serious problems if he does.  Dr. Burke thinks it would be best to have a Gamma Knife procedure when Mark returns to Chicago.  Dr. Burke tells Mark that he would only have about four to five months to live if the operation is successful.  Mark was hoping that it would be at least four to five years.  Dr. Burke tells Mark that he should have died over a year ago, but since his surgery last year was so successful, he was able to get married and have a baby daughter.

Mark is back in Chicago and Rachel wakes him up for work.  Rachel tells him that Elizabeth has called and wants him to bring some of Ella's things with him to the hospital for her to pick up.  Rachel is being extremely nice to Mark and seems to be happy that it is only her and her dad left in the house.  Mark is working late, so he tells her that she should stay at a friend's house for the night.  Carter's shift is over, so he goes over the board with Jing-Mei, who is coming in to work.  Jerry tells Jing-Mei that a guy named Randall has called and that he took a message for her to call him back.  This was not this first time he has called.  Frank sees Abby and tells her that Luka wants her to bring some x-rays out to the ambulance bay.  Abby takes them outside and sees Luka pulling up with a cop behind him.  Abby gives him the x-rays and then Luka thanks the cop for following him and the cop drives away.  Luka tricked Abby, just so the cop wouldn't give him a ticket when he caught Luka speeding.  Luka thanks Abby and then drives away in a new sports car.  Carter comes up and asks Abby how she is doing.  She tells him that Brian is out on bail and that she prefers to work longer shifts so that she doesn't have to see him back at the apartment.  Mark is on his way back to work and Susan sees him getting coffee.  He tells her that the tumor is back and she asks about Elizabeth.  He tells her that he has not told her about it yet.  She tells Mark that he needs to tell her and that he should not be going through this all alone.  Mark tells Susan that he will be getting the Gamma knife treatment later during the day.  Gallant comes to get Dr. Greene to assist Dr. Weaver.  Frank and Jerry are arguing and Frank wants to fire him.  Mark tells Frank that Jerry was there long before he was and that he is not able to fire anyone.  Lily gets Mark to assist with a burn victim.  Abby is in the lounge with Malik and Chuny.  They are trying to help Abby find a place to stay where she can be safe from Brian.  Luka walks in to the lounge and hears their conversation.  Abby tells him that Brian is out on bail and he tells Abby that she can stay with him if she wants to.  Abby lets him know that it would not be a good idea.  Abby assure Luka that Brian will be going to jail soon and then it will all be okay.  Luka's offer for her to stay with him still stands.  Mark is with a burn victim named Mr. Nevinger.  He has burns on more than fifty percent of his body.  He is having trouble breathing because of the severe pain.  Abby sees Elizabeth and tells her that she was called down to consult on a burn patient that Mark is treating.  Elizabeth doesn't seem to be happy about working with her husband.  Elizabeth sees the patient and wants to know why he has not been intubated yet.  Mark wants him to be able to speak with his family before they intubate him.  The man's wife arrives and Mark leaves the room to speak with her.  Mark learns that Mrs. Nevinger is a nurse at Mercy Hospital.  Mark tells her that her husband will need an escharotomy.  She realizes how serious her husband's burns are.  Mark asks if she knows what caused the burns and she tells him that her husband paints furniture in their garage.  Her husband knows how dangerous it can be to have a heater on while painting, so she doesn't think he did.  Mark goes back in with his patient and Elizabeth.  He tells her that he has brought Ella's things that she had requested.  Mark tells his wife to come home, but she is not ready for that yet.  She wants to do what is best for their baby and is not trying to punish Mark for what Rachel had caused.

Kerry and Mark take care of a young boy named Aaron who was injured in a sledding accident.  Aaron has no feeling from his neck down.  A cop is there and wants to speak with Aaron about the accident.  The cop tells Mark and Kerry that Aaron's dad was pulling the kid and his friend on a sled behind a snowmobile.  The cop says that Aaron's dad was high on drugs.  Kerry notices Mark looking at the clock wondering if he has somewhere else he needs to be.  Mark goes to speak with Mr. James about what happened.  He asks him if he had been drinking and he tells Mark no.  Aaron's friend's father has arrived and starts yelling at Mr. James.  He is mad that his son broke is arm and calls Mr. James an idiot.  He wants him arrested and tells him that someone with half a brain should not be operating a motor vehicle.  The cop takes the other father to the side to speak with him.  Mr. James explains to Mark what happened to cause him to become stupid.  He had a construction accident and it messed up his brain.  Him and his son seem to get along better now that he is more at his son's age level mentally.  Frank sees Abby and tells her that he has a message for her.  It is from the D.A.'s office and Brian's trial has been cancelled.  Mark goes to check on Ian, the burn victim.  He tells him that his wife and son are there and would like to see him.  He doesn't want them to see him in that condition.  Mark explains to him that they need to intubate him to help him breathe easier and that he will not be able to speak to his family afterwards.  He still tells Mark that he doesn't want to see them.  Mark tells him that he has tested positive for amphetamines.  Ian explains to Mark about his working condition and how tired he is working so much.  He was wanted to finish the furniture for his son's birthday.  The explosion was caused when he lit up the drugs to smoke.  Romano finds Elizabeth and tells her that Peter Benton did not finish all of his reports and that she will need to do them.  She argues with him about it, but her beeper goes off and she has to get back to the ER.  Romano tells her that she needs to have the reports done by tomorrow or Peter will be reported to the medical board.  Jing-Mei gets a dozen red roses from Randall.  Frank and Jerry are still fighting.  They get so riled up that they knock Jing-Mei's roses off the counter and then Jing-Mei onto the floor.  A G.S.W. is being brought in and Jing-Mei is able to get off of the floor to help.  The man who is brought in with a gunshot wound is Dennis Cooper.  Corday and Jing-Mei are with him.  Weaver comes in to assist, but ends up going to assist Gallant with the man's eight-year-old daughter.  The girl is covered in blood, but Gallant tells Weaver that she has only been scraped and that the blood is her father's.  Gallant tells Kerry that the girl hasn't spoken a word to anyone since the shooting.  She probably saw the person who shot her father and is scared.  Kerry asks the little girl what her name is and the cop with her tells Kerry that she is Brianne.  The girl responds to Kerry and the cop starts to ask the girl who shot her father.  Kerry kicks the cop out of the exam room.  Kerry speaks to the cop outside.  He explains to her that the girl's father is a drug dealer and that Brianne might be in danger if she saw who shot him.  Kerry tells the cop that she will need to be seen by a doctor first.  Elizabeth finds Kerry and tells her that the girl's father has died.  Mark has gone to his Gamma knife appointment.  The technician tells Mark that he will need to take it easy the rest of the day after the procedure.  She wants to make sure that someone will be there to look after him the rest of the day and night.  He tells her that his daughter will be home.

Elizabeth is looking for Mark and Jerry tells her that he has left.  Mark is done with his procedure and has arrived for Ella's appointment.  Mark is told that the appointment is over and that he was too late.  He has already missed Elizabeth and Ella.  Mark realizes that he is still in the doghouse after this.  Abby has gone to speak with the D.A. about why they let Brian go.  He explains to Abby that this is his first offense and that all they could do is give him community service and put him on probation.  He tells Abby that it did not help matters that Brian had been beaten up and Abby looks surprised about this.  Mark is back at work and checks in on Aaron.  He has already started to get the feeling back in his arms and legs.  Mark wants to get more information from Aaron about the accident, but Elizabeth comes in and interrupts him.  She is upset that he had missed Ella's appointment.  He lets her know that the doctor told him all about Ella and how well she is doing.  Haleh tells Mark that he is needed for Mr. Nevinger.  Kerry checks on Brianne and tells her that her father has died.  Kerry tries to get Brianne to tell her if she knows her shot her daddy.  She tells Kerry that she is the one who shot her father.  Kerry assumes that her father was abusing her, but Brianne shocks them by telling them that she shot her daddy because he wouldn't let her watch the TV.  He threatened to shoot Brianne if she turned on the TV while he was sleeping, so she shot him when he fell asleep.  Mark finds Mrs. Nevinger and tells her that her husband will see her, but not his son.  She sees her husband and they begin to laugh.  She wants to help Haleh treat her husband and Mark agrees that it would be okay.  She sees her husband's chart and sees that he tested positive for drugs.  This makes her angry.  He had told her that he was going to quit and stay clean.  She leaves the room angry.  Abby heads home and sees Brian.  Instead of going in, she turns around and leaves.  Mark sees Adele Neuman speaking with Aaron's father and the cop.  Mark tells Adele that Aaron is as much at fault about the accident as his father is.  She tells Mark that they do not know what they are going to do about the situation.  Mark wants to speak with Aaron again.  He tells him that if he doesn't speak up about what really happened that he might end up in a foster home.  Aaron is ready to tell the truth.  Mark is getting light headed from his treatment that he has to sit.

Mark heads outside to take a break.  Susan sees him and takes a seat beside him.  She finds it hard to believe that he is still at work.  He tells her that he has a half hour left and that he is on until eight.  She can't believe it when she finds out that he has still not told Elizabeth about the tumor being back.  He is not ready for everyone to start treating him differently.  Mark is still light headed and has a hard time standing up.  Susan tells him that she is taking him home or she will tell Weaver.  Corday learns from Haleh that Mark has already left.  Elizabeth is on her way in take Mr. Nevinger to the burn unit.  He is still upset that his wife has not come back.  Elizabeth tells him that it will take time, but that his wife will forgive him.  Elizabeth sees Mrs. Nevinger and is stunned to see that she is still so angry.  His wife wants her husband to suffer for what he has done to his family.  Kerry sees Frank and Jerry and tells them that they have been suspended.  She has heard about their fighting and their incident with Jing-Mei getting hurt.  They deny what happened and Jing-Mei tells Kerry that she had just tripped over the phone cord.  Carter is back in for his shift and Jing-Mei tells him that she has six patients all ready for him.  Jing-Mei's mystery man Randall shows up in the ER looking for her.  He wants to know why she hasn't returned any of his calls.  She tells him that she has been really busy.  He wants to know when her shift will be over and Carter tells him that Jing-Mei has to work to cover for Mark Greene's shift.  Jing-Mei finally just tells him that things are not working out and that he should quit calling her.  Randall takes the hint and walks out.  Chuny is surprised that she would dump such a nice looking man and Carter is surprised that he sent Jing-Mei flowers after only having one date with her.  Having nowhere else to go, Abby shows up at Luka's apartment.  Nobody answers, so she heads back to the elevator.  A woman answers the door and asks Abby if she can help her.  Abby looks embarrassed and keeps walking toward the elevator.  Luka comes to the door and asks Abby to stay and come inside.  She is still embarrassed, but he talks her in to coming in to help him win a game of Pictionary.  Elizabeth is with Peter Benton getting the reports from him that Romano wanted.  Peter asks her about Ella and Elizabeth tells him that she thinks she has left her husband.  Peter doesn't know what to think.  She tells Peter that she is living in a hotel.  She tells him that Mark doesn't want to send Rachel away and Peter senses that she wants Mark to defend her over Rachel.  Peter gives her some words of advice and she tells him that she feels disconnected from Mark.  Mark has made it home and Susan is fixing him some soup.  Mark is not hungry and would rather sleep.  Mark has trouble sleeping because his right eyelid will not close.  Susan does the doctorly thing and tapes it down for him.  Mark falls to sleep in Susan's lap.
