A new medical student makes his way through the ER.
His name is Michael Gallant and he is looking for a Dr.
Carter. Haleh greets him rudely and tells him to
wait. He sees Susan and thinks she might be Dr.
Carter, but she tells him differently. Susan takes
care of Mr. Hopper, who complains about not being able to
eat or sleep. He tells her that a girl had bitten
him and Susan assures him that it is just a hickey.
He is concerned that the girl may have been a
vampire. Elizabeth and Luka are in the hallway
discussing a patient. Luka apparently called for a
surgical consult, but he isn't ready for Elizabeth to see
the patient yet. Mark walks by and intervenes.
She is concerned that the patients appendix will
rupture. She thinks Luka just doesn't want her to
tend to his patients due to her recent post surgical
deaths. The new med. student is still searching for
Dr. Carter. Abby assures him that he will be in in a
few minutes. Abby overhears Susan talking to Frank
about her patient who thinks he was bitten by a
vampire. Susan tells him that the patient will need
a psych consult and Abby asks her if it is Count
Fred. Susan seems a little surprised that Abby knew
the patient. Abby asks if she had left someone in
there to watch him while she was gone, but Susan
didn't. When they return to the exam area, the
patient is finishing up a bag of blood. Susan
responds, "That's nasty"!

Carter's
Gamma is upset about being told that she is not able to
drive the Jaguar. She is told by Alger, that it is
still in the shop, but she knows better. Carter is
on his way down to leave for work and hears her
complaints. She does not like being
chaperoned. As they start to discuss this, Gamma
falls to the ground. She has fainted again.
Abby sees Malik help Nicole out. He is showing her
how to take a blood pressure. Nicole tells Abby that
she is training to be a nurses aid. Abby doesn't
seem to like the idea. A young man is brought in and
Luka asks for Abby to help him with the patient. He
also wants Nicole to follow along and watch. Cleo is
there to assist with the patient also and the med. student
wants to watch. The boy's name is Jeremy Norris and
he has been in a skateboarding accident. They can
not believe that he was not wearing a helmet. His
head and chest are both injured. Luka asks Abby to
show Nicole what to do. She has a hard time getting
the pulse-ox taken and does not understand what the
numbers mean. Luka wants Abby to be more patient
with her. Carter and Gamma have arrived in the
ER. Susan tells him about the new medical student
looking for him. Gamma continues to faint.
Susan and Carter go out to the hallway to discuss what
might be ailing his Gamma. Carter is going to
continue to run tests to find out what the problem
is. Peter comes to check on Jeremy. Jeremy
need to be intubated and the new med. student wants to do
the procedure. Cleo doesn't think that he is ready
for it yet, so she tells him next time. Luka wants
Nicole to bag him. Abby looks at him with surprise
and disapproval. Peter gets upset with all of the
questions the new med. student is asking. Peter
tries to find out how to stop the boy's bleeding.
Peter takes Jeremy to the OR. Luka brags to Nicole
about how well she did. He tells her that he will
see her later. Abby then goes up to Luka and tells
him that what he just did was not right. She tells
him that it was inappropriate. He needs to
understand that what she does in the trauma rooms is just
as important as what the doctors are doing. She is
there to save lives also. On their way to take
Jeremy to the OR, Peter is handed an envelope by a
man. Cleo looks on and Peter tells her
that it is a subpoena; Roger is suing Peter for custody of
his son Reese. Michael, the new med. student, sees
Luka and asks about Jeremy. A mall security guy
named David Hilliker limps in to the ER. He asks
them about the boy that was brought in from the
skateboarding accident. Luka thinks it is Jeremy's
father, but he tells him differently. He is actually
the man who called for the paramedics to assist with
Jeremy. Luka offers to help him with his hurt leg,
but he thinks he is okay. Luka talks him into
letting him check his leg out anyways. Abby tends to
two nuns who would prefer to be seen by Dr. Carter.
Their names are Sister Helen and Sister Monica. They
tell her that they do not mind waiting for him. Abby
sees Carter and he wants her to take care of the
nuns. He tells her about Gamma and she shows
concern. Frank announces that a nurse need to clean
up a patient. He has thrown up and is filthy.
Haleh and Chuny insist that it is Abby's turn to do the
bathing. She sees Nicole and has her clean him
up. Elizabeth goes to Romano's office to complain
about Dale Edson and the other surgeons taking her
patients. He reminds her that she will be back on
the surgical services soon enough. He is waiting for
the Centers for Disease Control to release her.
Elizabeth sees that Kit is injecting one of her patients
and she flips out. Kit is just trying to draw blood
from the patient and Elizabeth apologizes and walks out of
the room.

Luka and tends to the mall
security guard. He tells Luka that he use to be a
police officer for twenty-six years. Luka tells him
that he needs to stay off of his ankle. Haleh comes
in and tells him that Jeremy's mother is there. Luka
goes to tell her what has happened to her son. He
tells her that her son has a bad head injury. The
mall security comes out to speak with her also. A
boy that is with Mrs. Norris is upset to see the guard
there. He says that the guard was chasing Jeremy
through the mall. That is why Jeremy wiped out on
the skateboard. They begin to argue and Luka has the
med. student take him back to the exam room. A
minute later, he comes to tell Luka that he thinks the
guard is having a heart attack. This makes Jeremy's
friend happy. Elizabeth finds Dr. Zagerby and asks
him about her patient, Mrs. Taylor. She saw that he
was on the chart for her care also. He tells her
that he was actually off the day her patient died and that
Dr. Babcock was filling in for him. Peter and Romano
have finished Jeremy's surgery. Romano senses that
Peter is not his usual self. Peter asks a nurse if
he has had a call from Jackie. Peter goes to talk
with Jeremy's mother to let her know how the surgery
went. He tells her that it will be a waiting
game. The medical student is following Mark around
and asking a lot of questions. Mark seems to be
bothered by it, but tells him some stories anyways.
He wants to know about some of the most unusual medical
cases Mark has seen. Mark has him look at a patient
and then runs over to speak with Susan. She reminds
Mark that it is a teaching hospital and that he needs to
teach the medical student. She brings up how well
Carter did as a student and Mark comments on their
relationship. The student catches up with Mark
again. Susan sees Carter and she asks about his
Gamma. He tells her that it is not looking
good. Carter has not told his Gamma that she has a
type of disease. Mark sees Carter and introduces him
to his new medical student, Michael Gallant. Mark
seems anxious to let Carter start looking after the
student. Carter explains that he has had a family
emergency and then heads to the bathroom, without Gallant
noticing. Abby is there to tell him where Carter
went. Elizabeth sees Kit and tells her that she is
sorry for the earlier accusation. She then begins to
question Kit about some of her patients. Everything
she asks always points back to Dr. Babcock. The
medical student is taking care of an elderly woman, Mrs.
Reynolds. She has taken penicillin that he husband
had at the house. He had taken it earlier for an ear
infection. He tells her that it is not good to take
someone else's medicine. He assures her that she
will be okay. A 2nd year medical student is in the
next bed and hears the diagnosis. She tells Gallant
that he needs to get a CBC on the patient first. He
tells her to mind her own business. Carter walks up
and agrees with her diagnosis. The 2nd year student
is Grace and Carter tends to her. He has Gallant to
order the test for his patient. Grace tells Carter
that she is also a law student. She thinks she may
have caught the flu. Gallant sees Nicole and wants
her to assist him in getting the CT for his patient.
She tells him that she is not a nurse and that she is just
learning. He responds that he is learning
also. Luka walks up and Nicole tells him that Abby
had helped her learn how to bathe a man. He suggests
that she better hang out with the other nurses and leave
Abby alone, she is too busy. Gallant and Luka
discuss the guard and that he will be okay. He did
not have a heart attack. Gallant goes to tell the
man the good news. Luka gets paged for a trauma, so
Nicole goes with Gallant. When they arrive in the
exam room, they find the security guard hanging from a
suicide attempt. He tells Nicole to go and get help
and then he cuts the man down.

Carter
goes to check in on his Gamma. He tells her what her
problem is with her health and why she has been fainting
so much. He tells her that she could have a heart
attack or stroke if she doesn't get her condition under
control. She tells him that it is because she hasn't
had any lunch, but he tells her that it is Shy-Drager
Syndrome. She wants to know how long she has and he
tells her up to ten years. This does not bother
her. She doesn't want or expect to live that long
anyways. She tells him that she is ready to go
home. Abby finds Nicole crying in the ambulance
bay. She knows that she must be upset about seeing
the man hanging in the room. Nicole wonders if he
will die, and Abby assures her that he will be okay.
Nicole tells Abby that her father hung himself when she
was only eight and she was the one who found him.
Abby apologizes to her and tells her that it will get
better. Elizabeth sees Mark and tells him about what
she has learned about Dr. Babcock. Frank interrupts
and tells Mark that he has a phone call from Rachel's
school. He then cheerfully tells him that she has
been suspended and that it is probably drug related.
Luka is with the security guard and he removes the tube
from his mouth. The guard apologizes for what he has
done. Michael tells him to relax. He is
worried that the cops he use to work with will find out
about his suicide attempt. Michael tells Luka that
the man's wife died of breast cancer last year and the
cops that he use to work with would not understand.
Luka tells him to get a psych. consult on the man.
Carter continues to work with Grace. He takes her
temperature and tells her that she needs to slow
down. He can sympathize with her on the way her
parent's push her. She tells him that she just needs
some Halcyon and she will be better. He tells her
just this one time. Susan sees Carter and asks if
his day is getting any better. He tells her that
Gamma will not be able to drive and that she is not going
to like being told. Susan reminds him that Gamma
already doesn't like her, so maybe she should be the one
to break the news to her. Abby tells Carter that
Grace has collapsed. Carter sees that she has marks
on her arm. Elizabeth finds Romano and starts to
tell him about what she has learned about Dr. Babcock, but
she sees that he is right there, so she stops. Peter
meets Jackie to see what she has found out about the
custody battle for Reese. She has a friend at the
courthouse who told her that he should not fight for the
DNA testing. He tells her that he may not be Reese's
real father. Elizabeth goes and snoops around Dr.
Babcock's office. She looks inside the refrigerator
and desk. She sees a bunch of lab rats and then
starts snooping through the file cabinet. Babcock
walks in and catches her. She tells him that she
wants to talk to him about a couple of his cases.
She gets a page and has to leave, but he keeps her from
walking out with a vile that she had picked up.
Carter and Susan speak with Grace about the marks on her
arm. She explains to them that she use to be a
cutter, but she no longer does it. She also tells
them that she also use to have an eating disorder.
She says that she has received treatment for the disorders
and that she is better now. Susan sees that she has
new cuts and decides that she needs to be sedated.
All they want to do is help her. She does not want
to get a psych. consult, so they inject her with
droperidol. She tells them that they are going to
ruin everything.

Mark goes to pick
Rachel up. She had threatened a student with
scissors and that is why she was suspended. She
tells him that it was not serious and Mark tells her the
new rules. She can not have anymore rides to school,
no going out on a school night, and she will have to start
working around the house. She is not happy about
these rules and he replies that she will end up back in
St. Louis if she is not careful. He is doing this
because he cares. Cleo finds Peter with Reese in the
hospital daycare. He tells her about what is going
on and that he will need to have a DNA test. She
invites them to come over for fish sticks later.
Reese is ready to go home, but Peter still has work to
do. Reese signs that he wants his other daddy to
come and pick him up. Carter calls his Gamma and
tells her that she does not need to be driving.
Susan listens in on the conversation. He tells Susan
that he was talking to her on the cell phone from her
car. She is driving around and doesn't need to
be. Susan offers to go with Carter to Gamma's to
wait for her to return. Elizabeth goes to Romano's
office and finds that Dr. Babcock is already there.
She explains to Romano that Babcock has worked on all of
the cases that she has been inquired about. They
begin to argue back and forth and Romano tells them both
that they are out of the OR until this situation is
resolved. They storm out of the office and Romano
tells then, "God is love." Michael's shift
is over, but he tells Abby that he will just stick around
and study. He sees Grace and she apologizes to him
for the way she had treated him earlier. They decide
to study together. Peter goes to get his DNA
test. It is an easy procedure. All she does
his swab the inside of his cheek. Susan and Carter
are at Gamma's waiting for her arrival. He has just
told Susan about his previous drug addiction and she is
surprised. He asks her if she is disappointed in
him. She just can't believe that he had been
stabbed. She asks to see his scars. She tells
him that she feels like a school kid sitting out there
with him. He admits to having a crush on her years
earlier. She tells him that she had one on him
also. He is glad that she came back to town.
Gamma arrives home.
