Peter drops Reese off
at Jackie’s. Jackie still is not 100% after her son’s
death and is still walking around like a zombie. Carter
is lounging at his Gamma’s estate listening to “Blood
Sugar Sex Magik”. Gamma has come to give him some
aspirin for his back pain. She tells him to go see her
orthopedist today. She doesn’t want him to end up hunched
like her uncle Everette. His back is killing him, but he
tells her that it is because he was stabbed. She reaches
to give him his glass of water for his aspirin and she
drops the glass to the ground. He tells her that he will
pick it up. Abby goes to pick up the rest of her things
from Luka’s apartment. She also takes the CD’s that
belong to her. She is ready to head out and she gets her
sweater off of the coat rack. The rack falls and bumps
into the large aquarium Luka had bought. She picks the
rack up and notices that the tank is now leaking, slowly.
Mark and Elizabeth are heading in to work. Elizabeth has
been up all night with the baby. When they arrive in the
ER, Randi tells them that Weaver is on the warpath. The
ER is full of patients because Kerry is being thorough,
because she doesn’t want any more mistakes. She is still
upset about the Malucci and Jing-Mei mistake that was made
days earlier. Abby is at work and is on the phone about
buying a new aquarium. She can’t believe how much a 300
gallon tank costs. Luka walks up, so she has to hang the
phone up. She avoids any contact with Luka for as long as
she can. Mark begins making the rounds so that he can
“treat and street”. He sees a prostitute named Candy, who
has been bitten on her rear. She tells him that the boys
can’t get enough Candy. Kerry explains to Mark that they
need to be more thorough with the patients. As she is
talking, he removes a piggy bank from a boy’s hand. Peter
tells Cleo that Reese is having nightmares about not being
able to find his mommy. Malucci comes in to tell Cleo that
he has discharged one of her patients. This upsets her,
of course. She tells him to keep his hands off of her
patients. Abby is trying to avoid Luka and ends up hiding
out in an exam room. Carter is already in there trying to
remove glass from his foot. He had gotten the glass at
his foot at his Gamma’s house. Abby stops to help him and
she lets him know that she and Luka have split up. Carter
asks why and she tells him that it was just not working
out. She then begins to tell him about the incident with
Luka’s fish tank, but Haleh comes in and tells him that he
is needed in Trauma One. Jing-Mei is working on the
newborn baby that was abandoned in front of a church. She
had sent Haleh to get Carter. As Mark is heading to treat
Candy, he sees his daughter Rachel. Malucci needs to ask
Mark something, but is distracted by a female paramedic
heading for the elevator. He runs and gets into the
elevator with a lot of people in it, so that he can flirt
with the paramedic. The elevator stops between floors and
they all end up trapped inside. Rachel tells her dad that
her mom has kicked her out of the house and that is why
she is there. Jing-Mei tells Carter that they need to do
put a central line into the baby’s umbilical cord, but she
is hesitant because she has never done it before. Carter
has and begins to proceed. Jing-Mei thinks they should
have someone from pediatrics come and do it, but Carter
assures her that he can do it himself. Carter does the
procedure and the baby starts to show improvement.
Malucci tries to flirt, but keeps on getting interrupted
by the frightened and sick patients. One of the patients
on the elevator has a bleeding ulcer and he begins to spew
out blood from his mouth. Rachel is sitting listening to
her music as Mark gets some sandwiches and drinks from the
vending machine. He offers her a sandwich and she reminds
him that she is a vegetarian. They start to discuss the
reason she left. Elizabeth comes looking for Mark for a
consult on a patient and finds Rachel there with him. She
tells Mark that she didn’t know about her visit. Mark
walks with Elizabeth and tells her about the issues with
Rachel and Jen. The man with the ulcer falls to the
elevator floor and Dr. Dave and the paramedic work on
him. He asks for the other passengers on the elevator to
assist him, even though they do not want to. Luka and
Abby end up working on a patient together. He apologizes
for everything, but she says she is doing fine. He wants
to know if she had found her sweater and she says that she
did. Malucci does a procedure on his patient that
impresses the others and he also saves the man’s life.
Romano and Kerry discuss the incident of the patient that
died while under Malucci and Jing-Mei’s care. He tells
her that she needs to find a “scapegoat” for the incident
instead of making excuses. At this time, the elevator
doors open and Malucci comes out with his new paramedic
friend. Two ladies form the church that brought the baby
girl in want to see the baby. Chuny tells Jing-Mei and
Carter that the ladies think that the baby is a miracle
baby because of a birthmark that looks like the Virgin
Mary. Everyone seems to get better when they see and
touch the baby. Abby is finally able to remove the glass
from Carter’s foot. She explains to him about what
happened with Luka’s aquarium and he tells her that she
needs to tell Luka about it. He reluctantly offers to
help her replace Luka’s aquarium. Jing-Mei learns that
Weaver gave Carter one of her patients. Carter tells her
not to be mad, that Weaver hired her as the new Attending
and that she is still the “chosen one”. Mark and
Elizabeth do a consult on an elderly woman who has
Alzheimer’s and appendicitis. She is treatable, but her
husband doesn’t want her to continue on. Mark tells him
that they can make her comfortable, but Kerry insists that
she is treatable and should be taken care of. Rachel ends
up calling her mom and tells Mark and Elizabeth that he
mother is very upset. Mark speaks to Jen and gets a
tongue lashing also. Jen is on her way to come and pick
Rachel up. Rachel doesn’t have anything good to say about
her mother. Rachel tells Mark that she is not going back
to her mom’s. Kerry later finds Malucci and the paramedic
in an ambulance making out. She tells him that he is
fired. Malucci laughs it off and continues with his
business. When he returns to the ER from his “break”, he
sees that his name has been removed from the patient
board. He takes it upon himself to put it back up on the
board. Malucci asks Mark to talk to Kerry for him, which
he does, and Kerry tells him that he is fired. Mark tells
her that she can’t just go around firing people she don’t
like. Cleo learns that she was not exposed to HIV. The
baby starts to crash again and gets a high heart rate.
Jing-Mei thinks the baby might be anemic and she is
correct. Carter brags about Jing-Mei’s accurate diagnosis
to Kerry, but Kerry is not impressed. Mark and Kerry’s
patient seems to be improving after seeing the baby. The
husband decides he wants her treated. He says that she is
better and calls him Lloyd. It has been over two years
since she has said his name. She deserves to have
everything done for her. Mark discusses Malucci with
Kerry. Jen arrives and wants to know where Rachel is.
He tells her that it is good to see her too. Carter and
Abby arrive at Luka’s apartment to find out that Abby
forgot her key. She tells Carter that they can get into
the window. She tells him to bend over and he jokes about
it as she climbs on his back. Jen and Mark go to the
lounge and discuss the issue with Rachel. Jen and Rachel
argue like children, as Mark sits watching. Mark gets
called back to the exam room. A young homeless woman has
been hit by a car and appears to have had a baby. Abby
and Carter get in and replace the tank, with only a few of
the fish dieing. Someone knocks on the door and Abby
peeks out to see who it is. It is a policeman. Mark’s
patient denies that she had a baby. The woman needs her
spleen removed. Mark brings the baby to Anna, she
tells them that she can’t have a baby right now. The
woman asks to touch the baby, after Jing-Mei tells her
about people thinking the baby is a miracle worker. Abby
and Carter end up in the back of a police car. They
officer tells them that they are free to go; Luka does not
file any charges. They both get out and say nothing to
Luka. Rachel and Mark discuss her moving in with him and
Elizabeth. She tells him that she wants to spend more
time with Ella. This would make it real convenient for
them to have a live in babysitter, so Elizabeth should
love the idea. Elizabeth performs surgery on Mrs.
Tanzi,
who has Alzheimer’s and a bad appendix. She dozes off in
surgery, but denies it when confronted about it. Dr.
Benton is called out as he is scrubbing for a surgery.
Jackie ends up bringing Reese back to the ER for Peter.
She tells him that it isn’t fair. Romano tells him to get
his home life figured out and to go home. As Peter is
walking away with Reese, Romano signs, “"take care of your
father”. Jing-Mei sees Malucci outside and they chat
about what is going on. He tells her that all he wants to
do is to be a doctor. Carter walks Abby to her noisy
apartment building. She asks him in, but he tells her
that he has to get up early and declines the invitation.
Mark sees Elizabeth later and tells her the news about
Rachel moving in with them. She doesn’t appear to be too
happy, but accepts that she is his daughter and she should
be able to stay there. Malucci goes back to working in
the ER. Kerry sees him and tells him to go home. He
tells her that he needs the job to support his son.
Everyone looks surprised, because they did not know that
he had a son. They exchange some hard words and he then
throws his badge down to the floor and he walks out.
