Carter’s shift is over and he is ready to get out of
the ER. Abby’s shift has ended also, but Haleh wants her
to help out with Pablo. Abby tells her that she is
leaving, and Pablo tells them that he has to go to the
restroom. Elizabeth comes in with the baby in her arms and
she is hunting down Mark. Dr. Chen checks with Kerry about
a patient who has been waiting too long and is ready to
leave. Kerry tells her that she needs to keep the patients
flowing; she is now the Chief Resident and she does not
need to check with her on every patient. Elizabeth finds
Mark and she is upset because she has been waiting a long
time outside for him to take the baby. She is now late for
her shift, but Mark makes her wait longer because he is
still with a patient. Elizabeth tells him that she isn’t
going to be doing this anymore and she is ready to get a
weekend nanny. Mark tells her that he wants them to raise
their own kid. Abby and Carter finally are on their way
out of the ER. Abby is telling him how stubborn he is
being. He only has six weeks left on his residency and he
doesn’t even have a job lined up anywhere. She tells him
that he needs to quit being stubborn and talk to Weaver
about the Attending position. Carter tells Abby that
Weaver should ask him. Chuny comes running out asking Abby
to come back and help, but Abby tells her that she is off
and keeps walking. She has to be back at 7:00 and she is
going home. Abby tells Carter to talk to Weaver, then she
heads home. Carter turns around and heads back into the
ER. He finds Weaver and asks her about the position. She
tells him that she has been running a classified ad for
the position. He tells her that he is thinking about
applying for it. She looks surprised and says that they
were hoping to have someone with at least five years post
residency to apply, but okay. Jing-Mei sees Carter and
begs him to stay long enough to assist with one patient.
It is only a hurt toe and he should be done soon. Carter
gives in and agrees to help, but only the one. Carter
looks at the chart and tries to figure out which exam room
the patient is in. As he does this, Pablo finally gets to
go to the restroom, right there in the hallway and on
Carter. Carter looks at the patients toe and sees that it
is going to take more than an hour to fix it. It is
lacerated and will need to be cleaned and sutured. The
patient’s friend, Vincent Newberry, is with him and they
had just been at the Metallica concert where he dropped a
volcano on his toe and cut it. They are roadies for the
opening band, “Touching Wood”. Chuny seems to be
excited because she has heard of the band and knows one of
their songs. As Carter gives a shot to numb the toe, the
other guy passes out and falls to the floor. Carter thinks
it is from the sight of the shot, so he asks Chuny to
check his vitals. She does, and he is not breathing.
Elizabeth is upstairs with her crying baby in her lap as
she is talking to a patient’s mother. Mark comes up the
hallway and takes the baby from her. She is angry and
tells Mark that she is not doing that anymore, they are
going to never schedule their weekend shifts so close
together. She gives Mark instructions about feeding Ella
and then storms off. Carter finds out from his patient
that his friend has taken some drugs. He sees Cleo and
tries to talk her into taking care of him, but she tells
him that she is busy with other patients that were
involved in a stampede at a concert. A guitarist collapsed
on stage at the concert and everyone stormed the stage,
which caused the stampede. Several people were injured.
Kerry is tending to one when Frank comes in and tells her
that there is a guy at the front desk with a ponytail that
is asking for her. She tells Frank to take is name and
make him wait. Peter and Cleo work on a seven-year-old boy
who was at the concert. A cop comes in looking for a Dr.
Benton. He tells him that they have his son Reese at
another hospital and that he needs to go with him. Cleo
tells him to go and she will take care of the
seven-year-old. Abby goes to Luka’s new apartment to
find him playing a video game. She thought he bought some
furniture, but all he has bought is the Sony Playstation
and a large fish aquarium. He is too pre-occupied with the
game that he is ignoring her. She tells him that she is
hungry and will just leave. He finally gets his player
killed and decides he is ready to go eat also. Carter is
ready to go, but he cannot find Jing-Mei anywhere.
Elizabeth comes to check on Cleo’s young patient. The
boys name is Kevin and his babysitter had taken him to the
concert. Elizabeth sees that he will need surgery, but
they are having a hard time locating his parents. Malucci
comes in for his shift and Weaver gets on to him for still
being in his workout clothes. She tells him that he should
come to work dressed properly and he responds that he just
got there and hasn’t had time to change. The man that
has been looking for Weaver is a private investigator. She
does not want to talk to him, but he tells her that they
finally found the woman she had been looking for. He
double checked this time and it is really her; he had
found her mother. He hands her his business card and tells
her it will be $400.00 if she is interested. Luka takes
Abby to a restaurant where he seems to know everyone. She
is starving and is ready to eat, but the waitress tells
her that they quit serving already. Since Luka knows the
waitress, he is able to talk her into bringing Abby some
soup. The patient that Carter is working on gets two
female visitors. One is the girlfriend named Harmony and
the other is her friend, Diana. Diana is high on something
and acts very strange. She stairs at the ceiling tile and
thinks she sees blood. She says that that place is full of
the death. Harmony is having trouble breathing and Carter
takes a look at her. Peter finally arrives at the hospital
where Carla and Reese were brought. He finds Reese and
sees that he has a minor head injury, but doesn’t see
Carla. Peter asks about where Carla is and learns that she
had died in the accident. Carter learns that Harmony has a
piercing that is infected which is causing her breathing
problems. The piercing is in a private area and Carter
tells her that he will need to drain it. This freaks Diana
out and she hops on Carter’s back and tells him not to
drain Harmony. They spin around a few times and she then
gets slammed up against the window, where she slides to
the floor. Yosh, who has been assisting Carter, tells him
that he will get another chart. Back at the restaurant,
Luka is playing pool and Abby is talking with another
patron at the bar. He is telling her about all of his
health problems and offers to give Abby a cigarette. She
tells him that she is trying to quit. Carter calls his
father to cancel their plans that they had made. He now
has several patients that he is tending to. He yells for
someone to “GO FIND CHEN”! Carter calls Abby to yell
at her for talking him in to going back in to speak with
Weaver. Abby is surprised that Carter is back in the ER
working when he was suppose to be off. Luka walks up and
finds Abby on the phone outside talking with Carter and
smoking a cigarette. Weaver sees Carter and tells him that
she will be at Doc Magoo’s. Carter tells her that he isn’t
even suppose to be there. She yells to him to go sing out
and go home. Abby tells Carter that she has to hang up.
Luka tells her that she doesn’t have to hang up; he is
mad. Peter goes to see Carla. He is looking in at her
through the window when Roger walks up. Peter tells him
how sorry he is. Roger wants to know what happened and
what he should expect from the doctor. Peter tells him and
then the doctor shows him in. Peter watches as Roger holds
Carla’s hand and kisses her as he cries. Peter goes to
check on Reese. Peter explains to Reese that his mommy is
gone. “Mommy went bye-bye”. “She went to be with God”.
“She is sleeping forever”. “She won’t wake up”.
“Mommy died, mommy’s dead”. Reese seems to
understand what his daddy has told him. Back at the ER,
another patient is brought in with chest pains. He is 27
years old and his name is Paul; he is unresponsive. His
brother, Glenn, is with him and Malucci asks if his
brother has done any drugs. Glenn says that he doesn’t
think so, he is just visiting and this is the first time
he has seen him since he moved to Chicago. It looks as if
Paul is having a heart attack. Malucci thinks it is due to
cocaine abuse. Romano checks in on Corday who is doing
surgery on the seven-year-old. She is leaking breast milk
and Romano tells her to step out and go pump. The ER is
swamped with concert fans. He goes to work on the toe
again and Malik brings in Vincent’s mom. She tells
Carter that she has told her son not to be doing the
drugs, but he just does not listen to her. As she speaks,
her nose begins to bleed. She says that it happens a lot
when she is worried. Lily gets an X-ray of Paul and Dr.
Dave orders drugs to bust the clot. Haleh tells him that
he needs to get an attending or the chief resident to
order thrombolytics. He tells her to find someone quick.
Jing-Mai comes and asks for Paul’s history and Malucci
tells her that Paul’s tox screen hasn't come back yet.
He has not had any surgery recently that anyone knows
about. Jing-Mei would like to have Kerry’s advice, but
she is not answering her pages. Malucci wants to use the
drugs before the patient dies and Chen finally agrees. The
tox screen comes back and shows no cocaine in his system.
Paul crashes and has no pulse. Jing-Mei shocks his chest
and yells for someone to find Weaver. Abby finds Luka
sitting at the bar talking Croatian with another person.
She tells him that she is going to get a cab and that she
is tired of having waited outside all this time. Luka
follows her outside and tells her that he is sorry. The
waitress that Luka knows runs out to tell him that he had
left his credit card or wallet. This angers Abby to have
to see her again. She tells him that she will just take
the El. Carter finally finds Jing-Mei. He sees her
frantically helping Dave with their patient. He tells her
that he is leaving as soon as he is done taking care of
his patient’s mother’s nose. Malucci tells Carter what
has happened and carter notices on the X-ray that their
patient has Marfan's Syndrome. Jing-Mei is flabbergasted
and can’t believe what has happened. Carter works with
them on Paul. As Luka and Abby are on the El, they are
still fussing with one another. She is mad about being
left alone on the street while he was inside playing pool
and flirting with the waitress. They get off of the El and
continue their fight. He calls her a choice word and she
tells him to grow up. He tells her that she is not that
pretty and not that special. She tells him that he is
still married to a ghost. Carter is helping with Paul and
gets splattered by his blood. He is losing blood rapidly
and Carter tells them that Kerry was going to Doc Magoo’s.
Luka and Abby continue arguing as they go down the street.
Abby suggests that he just break up with her. Luka agrees
and tells her that he gives up. He tells her that Carter
can have her now. She says okay and then walks away.
Carter runs to Doc Magoo’s to get Weaver, because Chen
doesn’t want to open the guy’s chest without her. On
his way, he slips and falls on the wet ground.
When Kerry
arrives, she can’t believe the mess. She tells Jing-Mei
to put the scalpel down and to stop doing compressions. “You’ve
killed him”. Roger finds Peter with Reese. Roger asks
Peter if he can take Reese for a few days, and Peter
replies that he was planning to anyway. Reese signs “I
love you” to Roger and Roger tells him that he loves him
too. Kerry looks at the X-ray and wants to know if Dave
knows anything about Marfan's Syndrome. Malucci says that
he assumed that it was just related to cocaine abuse.
Kerry then learns that Jing-Mei didn’t even look at the
X-ray before ordering the thrombolytics. She reprimands
them both. Malucci tells her that they had to act quickly
because she was not answering her pages. Carter tries to
take up for the both of them, but it does not help. He
says that the patient may have died anyway, and Kerry says
that they will never know. Dave thinks they should go
ahead and tell the family, so that they can be screened
for the disease. Kerry tells them NO and that they better
keep it all quiet and to speak to nobody about this case.
She leaves the room and Malucci slams the tray to the
floor as Jing-Mei fights back the tears. Back at the
Greene’s home, Elizabeth comes upstairs to see why Ella
is screaming her head off. She wakes Mark up from a hard
sleep and tells him to get up. The baby’s diaper has
leaked and she is a mess. Elizabeth is really angry and
Mark takes the verbal abuse. Carter finally goes to finish
up his patient’s toe. Kerry goes back to Doc Magoo’s
and finds her pager in a restroom stall. Dale Edson sees
Carter and tells him that he took care of his nose
bleeding patient. She had been abusing cocaine. Carter’s
shift is going to be starting again soon, so he just
sticks around and finds a place to sleep. Reese has had a
bad dream, so he goes and gets in the bed with his daddy.
