Peter has gone to visit his old Junior High school science teacher at the nursing home where he stays, just like he told him that he would do in "Sailing Away".  When he arrives, he is greeted by Walter, who we met in "Surrender".  He tells Peter that he thinks Mr. Ferris is having a heart attack.  Peter goes into the room where he is and sees Earl, who we met in "Surrender" also, with him.  Peter sees that he is in congestive heart failure and needs emergency care.  They call 911 and the paramedics arrive.  Peter rides along with them, but they are halted when the driver hits a motorcyclist.  Peter injures his hand during the accident, but he shakes it off and continues in the ambulance with Mr. Ferris and the motorcyclist.  Abby goes on break and goes to visit her mother in her room in the Psych. ward.  She is in the room with another patient named Wynnona, who is concerned about her hair.  Maggie is on a 90 day hold, but seems to be doing well and taking her meds.  Malucci starts working on the motorcyclist as Peter tends to Mr. Ferris.  Peter then gets Dr. Kovac to tend to Mr. Ferris, while he helps Malucci with the motorcyclist.  Dr. Legaspi sees Abby and tells her that she had better get on down to the courthouse.  Abby does not understand, so Kim explains.  She tells her that her mother is contesting her being committed and Abby will need to convince a judge that she needs to stay committed.    Luka offers to go with her, but Abby tells him that she can take care of it.  He then mentions if she would rather Carter go with her.  She ignores him and walks off.  The ER staff have all pitched in, except for Malucci, for flowers for the new mom and dad Greene.  Cleo wants Malucci to pay his $50.00, but he does not want to.  Him and Jing-Mei exchange words after he accuses her of having P.M.S. when she will not tend to a patient of his.  He wants Jing-Mei to do a rectal on an old woman who threatened to hurt him if he touched her.  Jing-Mei will not be pushed around by Malucci though.  Peter is in surgery, and is operating with his left hand.  Romano comes in and sees it and wants to know what the problem is.  He learns that Peter injured it and should not be operating on the patient.  Peter is then asked to scrub out and Romano will finish the operation.  When Peter comes out of the OR, a nurse tells him that his wife is there to see him.  He tells her that he doesn't have a wife.  It is Carla and she has been injured.  Carter takes care of a young, pregnant woman who was brought in.  She has miscarried before and is having some complications.  Jing-Mei has a patient who is interested in binary numbers and can count the beat of the heart monitor as it goes off.  Malucci comes screaming out of the exam room after getting sprayed in the face with pepper spray by his elderly patient.  She warned him not to touch her.  Kerry goes in to speak with the woman.  Abby gets to the courthouse and speaks with the lawyer to keep her mom committed.  She looks into the courtroom and sees her mom speaking with her own lawyer.  Peter sees Carla and learns that she injured her ankle.  She hurt it because of her high-heel shoe.  She will need surgery to have a screw placed in it and she would like Peter to do it.  Peter tells her she will need an orthopedic surgeon.  She tells him that she and Roger have been having some trouble lately.  She also tells him that Jackie told her that he had moved in with Cleo.  Peter offers to look after Reese, but Carla doesn't really want him to be around Cleo.  Maggie's hearing is underway and Dr. Carl Deraad is testifying.  When he is done, Abby takes the stand.  Luka shows up in the courtroom as she testifies.  Two men come into the ER after fighting.  One is dressed as a Kangaroo and the other one as an Opossum.  They are still fighting and Kerry has to keep them separated.  Yosh takes care of Malucci's eyes by washing them out for him.  Carter hears that his patient with the pregnancy issues has passed out in the bathroom.  He finds her there and she is bleeding out.  Carter's patient has suffered a partial miscarriage and will need to have a DNC.  Back in the courtroom, Abby is being questioned about her dating and how having her mother around would be an inconvenience for her.  Maggie takes the stand and blames her problems on her medication.  She tells the judge that she never meant to kill herself.  She says that she took the pills to help her sleep because she gets car sick and that it was a long road trip.  Abby gets frustrated and tells her lawyer to mention about taking over 30 pills, but the judge has to hush her up.  Carter's patient's boyfriend shows up and is concerned for her.  Carter learns that he had been putting herbs in her tea to cause her to miscarry.  The young woman was unaware of this and the infuriates Carter.  Kerry is still tending to Malucci's elderly patient that had sprayed him with pepper spray.  Kerry tells her that she has a larger tumor on her ovary and that is why she is having difficulty going to the restroom.  To Kerry's surprise, the woman does not want the tumor to be removed.  She says a few words and Kerry remembers who the woman is.  It is Princess Taffeta from a children's show Kerry saw as a young child.  She used puppets in her show and Kerry can name them.  Princess Taffeta tells Kerry that in the end, everyone dies alone.  This seems to bother Kerry.  Abby is outside waiting during a break and she is smoking a cigarette when Luka comes up to her.  He tells her that Maggie is asking for her.  Abby speaks with her mom.  Abby tells her that she lied about the pills and really did try to kill herself.  Maggie tells her daughter that she can't be committed and that she doesn't want to break anymore promises.  She tells her that nothing she does is Abby's fault.  Kerry takes care of the man dressed up as a kangaroo.  He tells her that he is happier as a kangaroo and he feels safer and able to talk to more people while he is in costume.  Cleo and Malucci take care of a teenage girl who has markings on her back.  Cleo wants to call the Department of Family and Children Services on the grandmother that brought her in, but Malucci doesn't want to yet.  Carter speaks with the young woman who had the miscarriage.  He explains to her what her boyfriend did, but she tells him that he was just scared.  Maggie is put on the stand and is asked about her stealing the sleeping pills.  She also is asked about her suicide attempts in 1983 and 1974.  She was committed for both of those.  In 1983 she tried to kill herself by carbon monoxide poisoning and in 1974 by taking sleeping pills.  Earl and Walter come to the ER to check on their friend Mr. Ferris.  Earl sees that Malucci is having a hard time speaking with his Vietnamese patient's grandmother and offers to help him out.  He had translated during his time he served in the military.  He tells Malucci that the woman thinks her granddaughter is possessed because she has been doing sinful behavior (SEX).  She rolled hot coins along her back to remove the evil spirits.  This really makes Cleo want to call Department of Family and Children Services, but Malucci has a better idea.  He has the hospital chaplain to come down and perform an exorcism.  This does the trick and the girl and grandmother seem to be okay.  Kerry's patient, Princess Taffeta, is walking out of the ER.  Kerry tells her that she needs to have the surgery and she wants her to speak to a psychiatrist, but she just wants to leave.  She hands Kerry Mr. Whiskers, but Kerry tells her that she can't accept that.  She takes it anyways and makes the Princess happy.  The judge tells the courtroom that Maggie does not have to be confined.  This angers Abby and causes her to be escorted out by the bailiff.  Luka tells him not to touch her and he escorts her out.  Before they leave the courtroom, Abby yells to her mother that maybe next time she will do it right and really kill herself.  Peter has Reese with him and is visiting with Mr. Ferris in the ER.  Cleo tells Peter that she can look after Reese and take him on home.  Peter thinks a while, but lets her take him.  Dr. Legaspi discharges Maggie as Abby looks on.  Kim tells Maggie that she would like to see her on Monday and that she can call her anytime.  Abby hands her mom her suitcase and learns that she is going to stay in a shelter for a few days.  Abby tells her that she will see her next time.  Maggie does not like hearing this and hopes there won't be a next time.  Abby tells her that she loves her and then she walks away.  Carter is speaking with his patient's boyfriend who gave her the herbs.  Then the police come in and take the man in custody.  Carter encouraged the young girl to press charges.  Mr. Whiskers is missing, but nobody seems to know where he is.  Kerry goes to check on her Opossum patient and sees him playing with Mr. Whiskers under the sheets.  Mr. Ferris tells Peter that he is proud of him.  Peter tells him that he is most proud of his son and having become a surgeon.  Kerry goes to see Kim.  Kim isn't too receptive, but Kerry tries anyways.  Kerry tells her that she heard that Shannon Walsh told the truth about the incident from "Witch Hunt" and that the charges were dropped.  Back at Luka and Abby's place, Abby takes a bath.  When she comes out, she sees that Luka as prepared a romantic evening for the both of them.  There is a knock at the door, so Abby assumes it is room service, but Luka tells her that he did not order any.  When Abby opens the door, she sees her mother standing there.
