Cleo
and Peter get woke up around 4 AM by the
telephone ringing. It is Kynesha calling
asking for help. Cleo gives the phone to
Peter and he learns that she has ran away from
the half-way house where she was staying.
She has ended up on the side of the road and
Peter tells her that he will go pick her up.
Cleo tells Peter that they are never going to
be able to get rid of her. Mark and
Elizabeth are back at home. Elizabeth is
having a hard time sleeping, so Mark comes
downstairs to check on her. She is
worried about her lawsuit and a meeting has
been called. Peter goes to pick Kynesha
up and there are some guys there with her.
They do not want her to get into the car with
Peter, and when she does, they bust out his
back window. He speeds off. All
Kynesha wants to do is find something good to
listen to on the radio. Luka
and Abby are on their way in to work.
She is tired of staying at the hotel and would
like to have Luka come stay with her sometime.
Abby sees Carter and she asks him if he has
told Weaver about the drug incident yet.
He is going to be getting his evaluation
today, so he tells her that he will let Kerry
know then.
A
Catholic Bishop has taken a fall and is being
brought in by ambulance. Malucci and
Luka assist him. Kynesha tells Peter
that she will take care of the broken car
window. She has taken a shower and seems
interested in Peter. She wants to stay
with him. Peter tells her that she is
just a kid and to quit talking like that.
Weaver tends to a man who is having women
troubles. He has not been with one in a
long time and seems depressed about it.
Kerry has him remove his shirt and she sees
that he has a pair of scissors stuck inside of
his chest. Kerry is asked if she wants
to call psych., but she says that she will
deal with him herself. Elizabeth goes to
Romano's office for her meeting, but she is
told that the meeting has been canceled.
Her lawyer is already there. They tell
her that they settled the lawsuit because of
some faulty equipment. This does not
make Elizabeth feel any better. A woman
comes in with a sick stomach. Carter
tells her that she will have to wait, but she
then throws up on him and is getting worse.
She starts to vomit blood.
Luka
is taking care of the Bishop. He asks
Luka about his accent and Luka tells him that
he is from Croatia. He is then asked if
he is Catholic, and Luka tells him that he is
not. Carter gives the woman with an
upset stomach an ultrasound and he sees
something. He ends up pulling up a
condom full of cocaine out of her stomach.
Kim comes to see Kerry and asks her why she
didn't call for a psych. consult on the
depressed man that stabbed himself. She
should not have let the man go home. Kim
tells her that she does not want what happened
between the two of them to affect the
patient's care. Carter learns that the
woman who had tried to smuggle the cocaine was
doing it to try and get back home.
Malucci speaks with the Bishop. He is
asking him about celebacy and being a bishop.
He does not see how they can do that.
Luka talks the bishop into walking with a
cane. Carter gets an excellent
evaluation from Weaver. A multi-victim
accident comes in, so he is not able to tell
her about his drug incident. A husband,
wife and daughter are in an accident.
The father is dead at the scene, but the
mother and daughter are brought in.
Elizabeth is called to come down and assist in
the ER. She gets on the elevator and Mr.
Patterson is in it. He is the man that
she paralyzed and was suing her. He
tells her that he just can't forgive her.
She is very apologetic, but she has to get
back to work. The woman from the
accident is being brought in and she ask about
her husband. They tell her that they do
not no anything for sure yet about his
condition. The woman is going to need
surgery, so Luka wants her to see her daughter
before she leaves to go to the ER. The
little girl, Amy, sees her mother and then she
crashes. The mother is taking up to the
OR for Elizabeth to operate on. They
lose Amy's pulse, but they frantically work on
her. Elizabeth is going to have to
perform the operation alone and she is very
nervous about it. Dr. Legaspi comes down
to the ER and she wants to admit the woman who
swallowed the cocaine. Carter thinks
that it is a good idea, but Kerry would rather
turn it over to the authorities. Kerry
and Kim exchange some harsh words and they
walk off from each other. Luka is unable
to save Amy and they call the time of death at
1:47 PM. The drunk man that hit the
family is being brought in. He does not
seem to know the damage that he has caused.
Luka and Abby tend to him. They are
going to have to insert a tube down his throat
and Abby offers to spray the throat first, but
Luka seems to want to cause the man a lot of
pain. He roughly inserts it as the man
shrugs in pain. Peter has Kynesha meet
with him at Doc Magoo's. He has also
asked Adele Neuman to meet with them.
Adele would like her to go into foster care,
but Kynesha is not crazy about the idea, so
she walks out. Adele chases after her.
Elizabeth is having a hard time doing the
liver surgery. She can not control the
bleeding, so she has Shirley get Dr. Romano.
The drunk guy that hit the family had three
D.U.I.'s and a revoked license. This
makes Luka even angrier. Romano comes in
to help Elizabeth. He is not happy about
being called out from his lunch.
Elizabeth apologizes and leaves, as Romano
tells her that she had better not walk out,
she walks out anyway. Mark comes in and
visits in the ER before his radiation therapy.
He and Luka share some small talk, before Mark
lies down on the staff sofa to rest.
Luka sees that the bishop is in the room with
the drunk man. He is giving him his last
rights and Luka tells the bishop that he
should leave. Abby sees Carter and ask
him how the evaluation went. He tells
her that it went great, but he did not tell
Kerry what had happened. She tells him
that she can no longer sponsor him. Cleo
goes up to see Mrs. Hembrick after her
surgery. She has to tell her that her
daughter did not survive.
Luka
learns from the bishop that Kevin Poole, the
drunk man that killed the man and his
daughter, died. Luka tells him that he
should have been with the little girl and not
the drunk man. The bishop tells him that
God was with that little girl. Carter
sees Weaver on her way out and he tells her
that he needs to speak with her in the lounge.
They go to the lounge and he tells her about
his taking the 2 pills. She doesn't seem
to concerned about it after he tells her that
he had vomited them up and not digested them.
She tells him that she will think about it and
let him know what she will do about it later.
She tells him to continue to go to his
meetings. Cleo and Peter go back to her
place to find that it has been trashed.
Cleo is very upset about it and Peter offers
to clean it up for her. Kerry finds Kim
at Doc Magoo's. She wants to apologize
for how she had spoken to her earlier.
Kerry tells her that she has missed being with
her. Kim tells her that things will be
back to the way it was before long.
Kerry tells her that she don't want it that
way. She tells her that she may want
more than a friendship after all. Peter
helps Cleo clean her place up. While
they are picking up, Peter tells her that he
loves her.

TV Guide Review
January 11, 2001: Rock, Paper, Scissors:
James Cromwell makes his first appearance
as a Catholic bishop. The prelate is treated by
Kovac, who also has the task of tending to the
young victim of a drunken driver, as well as the
driver himself. As the drama unfolds, it's time
for Carter to have his performance evaluated by
Weaver, but he doesn't necessarily want to tell
her about his momentary crisis. And Kynesha (Toy
Connor) continues to cause a clash between
Benton and Cleo.
