A
school shooting has taken place and Kovac and
Benton are being flown there by helicopter.
Three kids have been shot and the gunman is
still on the loose. Luka helps a boy who
has been shot in the groin and may lose his
leg. As he is helping him, the gunman
exits the school while shooting his assault
rifle. A sniper shoots him down, but he
is still alive. Benton tells Luka that
he needs to go by helicopter, but Luka already
has the boy on board and will not let Benton
in. Luka wants to save the victim and
not he shooter. The gunman dies on the
way to the hospital and the boy is okay.
Benton and Kovac argue about it later when
Benton arrives back at the ER. Carter,
Abby and Kerry are helping a patient.
Carter sneaks a needle as he is working with
the patient and no one sees him do it.
Carter stays behind as they take him up to
radiology.
Carter starts shooting pain
medication into his wrist and Abby walks back
in to get the patients chart. She sees
what he is doing, but she doesn't let Carter
know that she did. Malluci is hunting
for a screwdriver so that he can remove a
screw from a man who seems to like a lot of
pain. Mark asks Carter if he is seeing
anyone yet (a shrink) and Carter tells him
that he is. Carter later gets nervous
when he sees Abby speaking with Greene alone.
Abby tells Mark what she caught Carter doing.
A pregnant woman is brought in after being
stabbed. She is almost 8 months
pregnant, but she didn't even know it.
She has been stabbed near the baby and the
placenta has been damaged. Luka tells
her that she needs an operation and the baby
needs to be delivered. She doesn't want
the baby; all she worries about is herself.
Mark talks to Kerry about Carter.
Malucci and Carter walk in as they are
talking. They ask Malucci that they want
to speak to Carter alone, so he leaves.
Carter denies everything and says that
Abby must be seeing things. They know he
is lying, so Mark takes him off patient care
and has him do nothing but paperwork.
Dr. Coburn and Luka do not see eye to eye on
the way the pregnant woman needs to be
treated. She tells Luka that he can not
operate on her without a court order.
Luka works with Kerry to get one, but it is
not going to be easy. Kerry and Mark
want to get Carter some help. Mark talks
again with Carter alone. Carter tells
him that he is going to be fine for someone
who was stabbed by a 6 inch butcher knife.
He still feels responsible for Lucy's death.
Peter and Elizabeth have been working on the
boy who had been shot at the school. The
bullet that hit him had been caught in his
artery and rushed up to his heart. They
saved his life. As they are laughing and
feeling good about the surgery, Cleo walks up.
She doesn't seem to happy about the two of
them getting along so well. Mark plans
an intervention. Kerry gets Carter and
brings him to the lounge. When he enters
he sees Jing-Mei, Benton, Anspaugh and Mark.
They have a ticket for him to go to Atlanta
for a rehab hospital for doctors. He can
either go to Atlanta or he will be fired.
He feels ganged up so he quits and walks out.
Peter runs after him and talks with him.
Peter gets punched in the face by Carter after
he tells him that he is going to end up a
vegetable like his cousin Chase. Carter
then breaks down in his arms and cries.
Peter goes with him to Atlanta. The
woman that was stabbed delivers her baby after
Kovach nearly scared her to death about her
health. The baby is a boy and he is
already dead. Later, Kerry gets a phone
call from a judge saying that it is okay to go
ahead and save the baby without the mother's
consent, but of course it is too late.
