Mark is taking care of his sick father at home.  Today is Carol's birthday.  Carter tells Malucci that he is looking for a condo in Lincoln Park and Malucci calls him a "yuppie".  Cleo takes care of an anorexic, bulimic girl who does not want to be treated.  Peter takes care of an older man who is going to have to have his leg amputated because Luka neglected to do follow up care on him.  Carol gets a box from Doug for her birthday.  It is full of animal crackers.  Carter stays really busy to keep his mind off of his trouble.  He is acting really strange.  Jing-Mei takes care of a boy that is brought in by his parents seizing.  She was unsure of what was causing the seizures.  If he would have been tested at the hospital as a baby for his certain illness, it could have been prevented.  Carol has a talk with Kerry in the medicine closet and starts crying.  She hates her life.  Kerry tells her that she can have some time off if she needs it.  Mark cuts his hand at home while tending to his father and Elizabeth goes to stitch it.  While she is there, David Greene gives her a pearl necklace that had belonged to his wife.  Mark's dad tells him that he loves him and Mark tells his dad that he loves him too.  Jing-Mei talks to Romano about the patient she had and genetic testing.  She wants him to sign a petition for all newborns in that hospital to be tested.  He has to sign it because the patient's mother is right there in front of him.  Mark wakes up from his nap and his father has passed away.  Kerry tells Elizabeth.  Elizabeth calls the anorexic girl's mother to come see her.  This makes the patient mad and she walks out.  Malucci takes care of a girl who was in a car accident with her father, who Carter is taking care of.  He finds out from the little girl that he has been molesting the 6 year old girl.  He goes into the next room over and wants to beat the man up.  Elizabeth goes to see Mark and Mark is taking care of his dad's things.  He breaks down and cries.

NBC Review

DR. GREENE SHARES MEMORIES WITH FATHER -- A weary Dr. Greene (Anthony Edwards) remains at home to care for his father (guest star John Cullum) and shares a tender moment, while a robust Dr. Kovac (Goran Visnjic) tries to court Nurse Hathaway (Julianna Margulies). In addition, faulty hospital procedure causes Dr. Benton (Eriq La Salle) to assail Kovac for not checking up on a patient (guest star Lincoln Kilpatrick) who now might lose his leg; likewise, Dr. Chen (Ming-Na) is horrified to learn that a simple metabolic test for infants could have prevented a boy's disabling brain seizure. Dr. Carter (Noah Wyle) assumes Greene's shift and is a whirling dervish of activity who can't resist taking over other doctors' cases as well. When an anemic teenager (guest star Polly Cusumano) refuses crucial treatment, Dr. Corday (Alex Kingston) makes a calculated gamble in order to assist her. Dr. Malucci (Erik Palladino) is enraged when a 6-year-old car accident victim (guest star Steffani Brass) claims that her father (guest star Jay Underwood) has been sexually abusing her. Maura Tierney, Laura Innes and Michael Michele also star.
