Elaine
comes to the ER to see Carter. Mark is
at his parent's house with Rachel. His
mother's funeral is over and his dad is out in
the garage building a linen chest that he had
been promising to make for his wife.
Mark asks his dad, David, if he would like him
to stay longer, but he doesn't. There is
a new second year resident working in the ER
now. His name is Dave Malucci and he has
been there for 3 days and everybody has
already figured out that he has a smart mouth.
He tells everyone to call him "Dr.
Dave". An announcement has been
made that Romano is promoting Elizabeth Corday
to Associate Chief of Surgery; she is
surprised because he neglected to even ask
her. Mark has returned back to work and
doesn't say much of anything about his mother.
Department of Children and Family Services (D.C.F.S.)
is coming to pick up the Ortega baby who has
HIV. Jeanie finds out that his mother
had died the day before. Jeanie really
wants him to go home with her. Carol
asks Luka where is from. He tells her
that he is from Croatia. Peter and Carla
have to see a therapist as part of the custody
case. Carter goes up to radiology to
check on something. He see that Elaine
is up there and wonders why. He sees her
later and asks what she has been doing and
lies about not being up there. Jeanie
tells Paul from D.C.F.S. that she is
interested in taking the Ortega baby.
Dave and Carter run to a construction site and
they grab the supplies from an ambulance that
was parked outside of the ER. The
paramedics get really mad at Malucci for
stealing their gear. Kerry gets on to
both Carter and Malucci telling Carter that he
knows better than that. Carter learns
that he needs to steer clear of Dr. Dave.
A young woman tells Mark that she doesn't want
to die today. She has cancer and has a
Do Not Resuscitate Order. Mark has her
put on a ventilator without the father
knowing. When the father finds out he
gets furious. Kerry intervenes and steps
on Mark's toes because she is the Chief.
The girl crashes and Mark tells Carter to
start compressions. Kerry tells Carter
not do listen to Mark and he gets caught in
between the twos orders. Mark threatens
to walk out and goes ahead with treating the
girl. She dies. Jeanie gets in
trouble for having had the Ortega baby tested
for HIV without any ones consent. Paul
from D.C.F.S. tells Jeanie that she will not
be able to take the baby. Carter learns
from Dr. Corday that Elaine has breast cancer
and will be having a mastectomy.
Jeanie
tells Reggie that she isn't going to get the
baby, but she wants to marry him any ways.
Carol treats a woman who is in the final
stages of death. She tells Carol that
she wants to speak to a priest after having
told her earlier that she didn't want to.
It is now too late for Carol to get one, so
Luka goes to the woman and poses as a priest.
The woman dies. Luka asks Carol if he
can touch her belly to feel the babies and she
lets him. Elaine and Carter get together
and she figures out that he knows about her
cancer. She tells him to leave.
Carla meets with Peter and during a heated
discussion, she tells him that Reese may not
even be his son.
