Mark
and Elizabeth are playing racquet ball as they
discuss the Trauma Fellowship. Carol
goes for an O.B. check up. Nobody but
Mark knows that she is pregnant. She is
asked if anyone on her side of the family or
the father's side of the family have any
genetic disorders. She is unsure about
Doug's family. She calls him and leaves
a message on his answering machine. She
has sent him a fax telling him what is going
on. Carter removes a cockroach from a
woman's ear. The F.B.I. bring in a woman
who they will not give out the identity of.
She has been shot in the chest. Three
teenagers are brought in from an accident.
They were on the way to their senior prom.
Carter, Lucy and Mark take care of the
boy suffering from third degree burns over 80%
of his body. Elizabeth tends to his sister who
may be paralyzed. The driver is not
badly hurt. His blood alcohol level was
.09. He was changing a CD in the player
when the accident happened. Apparently
one girl that was suppose to be with them is
still missing. A woman with AIDS and her
son are brought in by helicopter. She
crashed her boat into a dock when she became
sick. She has a fishing pole through her
mid section. Carol does not want to be
close to her because of her illness.
Kerry picks up on this and asks her if she is
pregnant. Carol is surprised that she
had figured it out. Kerry is very
understanding of her condition. Carter
shows Lucy a procedure where they slice open
the burn victim to relieve pressure.
Romano and Elizabeth take the paralyzed girl
up to surgery. Carol goes to apologize
to the woman with HIV. The woman tells
Carol that she no longer wants to take any
medication. She wants her son to have a
sick mother who is well for a short time than
a well woman who is sick for a long time.
Anspaugh tells Kerry, Mark and Romano that
Peter Benton receives the ER trauma
fellowship. Lucy tells the burn victim
that she is going to have to put a tube down
his throat to help him breathe. She has
his parents on the phone so that he will be
able to talk to them before he dies.
Lucy cries as she listens. Peter tells
Lizzy that she did not get the fellowship.
She only has three weeks left on her
internship. Romano is upset at Peter for
not taking what he had offered him. He
offers it to Elizabeth and she is considering
it. Carol gets a phone call from Doug.
Lucy tells Carter that she is on Ritalin.
He tells her that she needs to come off of it.
Mark goes in to check on Carol. She
tells him that Doug is not coming back.
She told him not to come. She didn't
want him to come back just because she is
having a baby. She still expected him to
come though.

NBC Review
A TURN FOR THE WORSE -- Dr.
Greene (Anthony Edwards) treats a stripper
(guest star Sandra Taylor) whose body metal may
have saved her life from a bullet to the chest,
but the mystery lies in two FBI agents (guest
stars Nathan Legrand and John Rosenfeld) who
linger suspiciously in the hospital. Seriously
injured teens in tuxes and prom dresses are
admitted after a life-threatening car crash and
Dr. Carter (Noah Wyle) becomes horrified when he
later learns that some of their parents were
serving alcohol to the kids before they got
behind the wheel. An HIV-infected woman (guest
star Moira Walley) comes to the hospital with a
fishing pole speared in her stomach, after she
crashed a boat on a play day with her young son.
Corday's (Alex Kingston) status regarding the
cardiothorasic fellowship adds further tension
to her relationship with Dr. Benton (Eriq La
Salle). Meanwhile, a drunken homeless man (guest
star Jimmy Skaggs) wanders the hospital yelling
out military phrases. Laura Innes and Kellie
Martin also star.
