Mark
and Carol start the day off by going jogging.
Mark has read a letter that Carol wrote Doug.
He tells her that it sounds good. She is
going to fax it to him later on during the
day. She does not want Doug to run back
just because she is pregnant. Roxanne
and Lucy meet to discuss Carter. Lucy
tells Roxanne that nothing is going on between
the two of them. Carter is on his way in
to work. He is on the train and he
watches two people making out as the power
goes off. Another passenger tells him,
"It's spring". Lucy tells
Carter that she is doing another ER rotation
and Carter gets to supervise her again.
Romano s spending the day in the ER, since
Kerry is off. He tells Mark that he
doesn't want to see any patients though.
Roger brings Reese to daycare, where Peter
gets him. Carol and Lucy take care of an
elderly woman who has fallen, Mrs. Armstrong.
Carol points out her bed sores and tells Lucy
to take her to X-ray. She was brought in
by her husband and a hard of hearing neighbor
named Gladys. Gladys tells Mark and
Romano that she heard a loud bang and went to
check on them. Lucy thinks that Mr.
Armstrong needs to speak to psych. about his
depression and Alzheimer's. A woman named
Phyllis Farr comes in. Lucy is tending
to her. She sells perfume sprays that
contain pheromones. Carter comes to
check on her and sees that she is having
shortness of breath. She also tells him
that she had a mild stoke a few yeas earlier.
A woman is being brought in after falling down
an escalator at the airport. Her name is
Ms. Price and she has a bad head laceration.
Elizabeth comes down to take a look at Ms.
Price and sees someone leaving a body on a
gurney in the hallway. She asks him if
it is her laceration patient, but it is not.
She finds the patient in the room with Mark.
Mark and Elizabeth take care of her as the
power cuts on and off. Carter finds
Roxanne with Mrs. Farr. He tells her not
to be selling insurance to his sick patients.
He ends up breaking up with her, to Jerry's
disbelief. Jerry tells him that she was
nice to have around to look at.
Elizabeth comes back to the hallway after
tending to Ms. Price to find that the gurney
is still in the hallway. She goes to
check it out and the woman has been beaten and
she is not breathing. She does not find
the person who had left her there. She
was a patient in the hospital and she has been
raped. Her name is Laurie Heller.
Elizabeth feels guilty about not recognizing
the man who had left her there. The
power goes out in the ER. Carol was in
the middle of trying to fax her letter to
Doug. Jerry later gets it out, without
reading it. The rapist is still at
large. Mrs. Farr crashes and needs a CT.
Elizabeth and Romano have to operate on
Laurie's spleen in the dark. Peter goes
to be with Reese in the dark. He does
not want him to be frightened. Lucy's
elderly patient that she was tending to does
not have bad bed sores as she had thought.
Her husband has shot her in the lower back.
Peter gets paged to come to the ER. A
man has been brought in by ambulance after
being struck by lightening. His name is
Mr. Joiner. He was brought through a
window, since the door could not be opened due
to the power outage. Peter comes to the
ER with Reese strapped to his back.
Jerry is going to take care of him while Peter
works on Mr. Joiner. Kerry comes in for
her shift. She has cleaned out her
refrigerator and has cooked a lot of food to
bring in. Everyone seems to like her
fried chicken, especially Carol. Romano
compliments Elizabeth for her operation on
Laurie Heller. He thinks that she would
be great to stay in surgery. Elizabeth
identifies a man that has hung himself in the
hospital. It is the man who had raped
the woman. Mark and Elizabeth go to the
arcade to unwind after work.

NBC Review
This episode is about a power
outage. In order to prevent any concern that we
may be experiencing technical impairment, here
is an outline, act by act, of how this effect is
accomplished creatively. Teaser: Lights go out
briefly in EL train, then return. Act 1: Lights
go out briefly in trauma room, then return. Act
2: Toward end of Act 2, power goes out all over
the hospital. The lights stay out until the
middle of Act 4. Act 3: Lights are out through
entire act. Act 4: Lights are out until middle
of the act. The last scene of episode, the
lights flicker and then we go to black, then to
the executive producer card.

TV Guide Review
May 6, 1999: Power: Periodic power
failures wreak havoc in the hospital, where a
rapist is on the loose. A neighbor (Jean
Sincere) brings in the couple (Ford
Rainey, Anne Bellamy) next door after
the wife has suffered an accident.

TNT Review
A power outage forces
staff members to use their wits to save
vulnerable patients; a comatose patient is
assaulted in the hospital.
