Doug
is sleeping on the couch at the Abbott's home.
Carol wakes him up and tells him that Ricky is
still alive. She is on her way to work
and she tells him that she will see him there.
Doug goes upstairs to check on Ricky and Joi.
Doug increases his dilaudin (pain medication).
Joi tells him that she does not think she can
take much more. She does not want to
watch him suffer like she had to watch her
other son suffer before he died of the
disease. She asks Doug to please help
her. Today is Romano's first day as
acting chief of the ER. He has made a
few changes and has delegated jobs to both
Kerry and Mark. Carter learns that Dale
and Lucy are still seeing each other.
Peter is taking sign language lessons at
$50.00 a day. He will need it three
times a week if he is going to learn it.
Mark sees Mobalage and asks him how his
urology visit went. He didn't go,
because he does not want his wife to find out
about his problem. Mark tells him that
he will speak to his wife if it will help.
The paramedics arrive at the ER and they have
Ricky Abbott with them. His father
called for them. He wants his son
intubated and kept alive. Carol calls
for Doug. Doug comes in to see what is
going on and he tells Mr. Abbott that he is
the doctor taking care of his son. Mr.
Abbott hauls off and punches Doug in the jaw
and Doug drops to the floor. They are
unable to help Ricky and he dies. Jerry
tells Kerry and the rest that a big snow storm
is on its way in and he wants to leave early,
but Kerry tells him no. A detective
comes in to investigate Ricky's death. A
young lady is brought in after a tae-bo
injury. She was kicked and Lucy is
tending to her. Mark is very upset with
Doug. He trusted him and look at what
happened. Doug gave Joi the code to the
P.C.A. machine to administer the dilaudin.
Anspaugh finds out about the incident and he
closes down Carol's clinic, because she
furnished the P.C.A. machine. Anspaugh
tells Kerry and Mark that he has never been so
disappointed in two people in his whole life.
Lucy learns Tae-bo as she is tending to her
patient. Carter goes to see what is
keeping her so long and as he opens the door,
Lucy kicks him in the chest and he falls to
the floor. An investigator speaks to
Doug about the incident with Ricky. Lucy
tends to Carter after he hit his head and she
kisses it. Then she goes for his lips.
Carol tells Doug that Romano and Anspaugh has
closed her clinic. He tells her that he
is sorry. She tells him that he was only
thinking of himself and not the consequences
of his actions. Chuny catches Carter and
Lucy locked up in the exam room. She
interrupts before anything other than kissing
can happen. Joi finds Doug and
apologizes for all the trouble. There
has been a school bus accident and Mark is on
his way to go help out. Doug wants to go
with him, but Mark tells him no. Doug
decides to drive himself and Jeanie offers to
ride along with him. A snow plow has hit
the bus and several children are injured.
Doug loses control of his car and he and
Jeanie crash.

OSCAR WINNER MARLEE MATLIN
GUEST-STARS -- The Chicago snow storm raging
outside is nothing compared to the chaos of
emotions on the inside of County General when
Weaver (Laura Innes) and Anspaugh (John Aylward)
learn of Ross (George Clooney) part in the
treatment and death of Joi's (Emmy winner
Valerie Mahaffey, 'Northern Exposure') son Ricky
(guest star Kyle Chambers). Meanwhile, Hathaway
(Julianna Marguiles) stoically faces the
possible shut down of her clinic. Lucy's (Kellie
Martin) fascination with an injured woman's
(guest star Katherine Kousi) kickboxing routine
ultimately causes heartache for Carter (Noah
Wyle). Dr. Greene (Anthony Edwards) finally
unleashes his pent-up fury towards Ross, just as
Greene rushes out to attend to a school bus of
children trapped in an icy accident with a snow
plow. Later, an unauthorized Dr. Ross and Jeanie
(Gloria Reuben) decide to follow Dr. Greene as
back-up help, but a slippery turn in the road
decides another fate. Eriq La Salle, Alex
Kingston and Abraham Benrubi also star.

TV Guide Review
February 11, 1999: The Storm, Part I:

devastating turn. It creates a crisis that
threatens to engulf not only Ross, but Greene,
Weaver and Hathaway as well. Meanwhile, Carter
and Lucy begin flirting with each other; Benton
meets with an experienced — and expensive —
sign-language tutor (Marlee Matlin); and
Mobalage (Djimon Hounsou) allows Greene
to tell his wife (Akosua Busia) what's
really wrong with him.
