Carter
gets woke up by the loud music coming from
upstairs. It is his new landlord, Kerry
Weaver, she is listening to Grace Jones.
Carter tells her that he likes it. She
tells him that she is so glad to be 100%
focused on medicine now that she does not have
to worry about the management side of the ER.
Elizabeth has had no sleep and she is working
a 36 hour shift. Kerry comes in to work
with a package waiting on her. She
received her sternal saw and she is the only
one in the ER certified to use it. She
tells them to keep a look out for someone she
can use it on. Carol tells Doug that she
isn't pregnant. They are trying and this
bothers her. Doug takes care of a baby
boy. His mother and big sister are with
him. The mother depends on the big
sister, Sky, to help out with the baby.
Jeanie helps to look after her. Mark and
the paramedics get called to a home where a
man has had his head drilled, on purpose.
It is suppose to free the mind, but it also
causes a lot of bleeding. He refuses
treatment, but lets them leave some medical
supplies. Lucy wants to speak to Carter
about the way he has been treating her.
She tells him that maybe they can have lunch
later. Anspaugh walks around covered up
in paperwork from the ER. He is the
interim chief until a replacement is named.
Lynette walks in on Carol trying to take her
own blood for a test. Carol asks her to
do a fertility workup on her, but to keep it
quiet. Carter is struggling doing his
student evaluation on Lucy. Jerry has a
confrontation with the paramedics in the
lounge. Paramedic Morales and Jerry almost have a
fight, but Mark comes in a breaks it up.
Doug sedates the baby boy he is tending to and
the anesthesiologist is not too thrilled about
it. He tells him that it is against
hospital policy, but Doug thinks he is above
policy. He tests the boy for meningitis,
but he does not have it. Jeanie plays
and talks with Sky while Doug tends to her
baby brother. Sky tells her that dolls
are for babies. Jeanie asks her how old
she is and she replies that she is a big girl,
she is six. Elizabeth scrubs in with
Anspaugh on a surgery, but he sees that she is
tire and has her go get some sleep.
Carter borrows Lucy's palm pal without her
permission, and he comes across a recording of
herself complaining about the way he has been
treating her. Mark is back at the
paramedics station and they show him a new
coat that they have for him. He will
have to go through some hazing to get it
though. They want him to lie on the pool
table on his back while they strap him on to a
board, but Mark can not handle it. He
tells them to stop and they do. Dr.
Amanda Lee from Atlanta comes in for her
interview for chief of the ER. Carter
finds Lucy and tells her to fill out her own
evaluation, since she thinks he has been so
hard on her. He tells her to turn it in
when she is done. Dr. Corday is still
very tired as she tends to her patients.
A patient she discharged the day before, Mr.
Ramos, is back with a wound infection and a
severe asthma attack. She wants to give
him magnesium, She gives him 40 ccs at
fifty percent and meant to give it to him at
five percent. This is too much medicine
and he almost dies. Peter goes to see
Dr. Kotlowitz about doing a cochleal implant
on Reese and he gets paged back to the
hospital about Elizabeth's mistake. A
woman in a lot of pain comes in and she is
pregnant. Carol does an ultrasound on
her to rule out an ectopic pregnancy, but she
seems to be okay. She tells the woman
that she is going to have a baby girl.
Carol later learns that the woman was faking
the pain, just to find out what the baby was
going to be. She has boys at home, but
every time she is pregnant with a girl, she
aborts them. This makes Carol very
angry, especially now that she is having a
hard time herself to get pregnant. Peter
arrives at the hospital and he gets
reprimanded for not looking after his intern,
Elizabeth. Mark meets with Lucy and
Carter to figure out what they have been
fussing about. He asks Carter about her
bad evaluation and Carter tells him that he
had her feel it out. He then wants to
know why. He can not work anything out
between the two. Kerry finally has a
[patient come in that she can use the sternal
saw on. Dr. Anspaugh gets to see her use
it and is very impressed. Amanda speaks
with Mark about his disinterest in her during
the interview. She would like to have a
meal with him and convince that having her as
chief would be a good idea. Kerry tells
Anspaugh that she harbors no hard feelings
toward his decision to hire someone else as
chief of the ER. Mark stays the night at
Doug and Carol's. He tells hem that his
apartment is having the asbestos cleaned out.
That is the same excuse he used the night
earlier to stay at the paramedics station.

NBC Review
EMMY WINNER MARE WINNINGHAM
AND DENNIS BOUTSIKARIS GUEST-STAR -- With Dr.
Weaver (Laura Innes) no longer a candidate for
chief of ER, Dr. Anspaugh (John Aylward) takes
on the role of interim ER chief. Dr. Amanda Lee
(guest star and Emmy winner Mare Winningham,
'George Wallace') is a promising candidate for
the chief position and meets with the hospital
committee. Dr. Corday (Alex Kingston), suffering
from exhaustion and sleep deprivation as she
takes on her new role as Dr. Benton's (Eriq
LaSalle) intern, makes a potentially deadly
mistake. In his continuing search for a solution
to his son's deafness, Benton meets with Dr.
Kotlowitz (guest star Dennis Boutsikaris, NBC's
'Trinity') whose approach is aggressive in the
use of cochlear implants. Dr. Greene's (Anthony
Edwards) resistance when the paramedics attempt
an initiation prank creates an awkward tension
between them. George Clooney, Julianna
Margulies, Noah Wyle, Gloria Reuben and Kellie
Martin also star.
