Doug
is up early in the morning working on his
Q&A reports. He is a week behind.
Carol asks him what time he got up and he
tells her that he never went to sleep.
Mark is on a ride along with the paramedics.
They hear gunfire and see that someone is
down. The paramedics call for back up,
but Mark wants to go ahead and help. The
guy they saw down on the street was not shot,
but badly beaten. Kerry learns that Dan
Litvak turned down the position as chief and
that she is the only person left on the short
list to take the position. Carter is
having to find a new place to live, since he
lost his RA job due to the fiasco Halloween.
Roxanne is helping him look for a place.
The guy that Mark saved on the street is a
male prostitute. His name is Kevin
Dulaney and he is only sixteen years old.
He was kicked out of his house by his dad when
he was caught with a guy. Mark wants to
do a rapid HIV test on him. Carol gives
Doug a fancy long white lab coat, like all of
the other administrator's wear. Carter
asks Peter how he was ever able to put up with
him as a student. He tells him that Lucy
is driving him crazy. Peter tells him
that he is there to teach her and not to be
her friend. The test result comes back
on Kevin and he is clean. He does not
have HIV. Elizabeth tells Peter that she
is no longer Dale's intern and she wants to be
his new intern. She does not want him to
show her any favors, and he does not plan on
it. He is not comfortable with the
decision and will think about it. Kerry
sees Peter outside with Reese and sees that he
is deaf. She had no idea, because Peter
has not let any of them know. She
recommends someone for Peter to see about
Reese's hearing. A young girl is brought
in by her father after a fall. Jeanie
suspects abuse by the father. Mark
learns that Kevin has blood clotting problems
and he is worried that he might die on the
streets. Kevin has protein deficiency
and is prone to blood clots. Mark puts
him on heparin and tells him he needs to take
coumadin. Carol and Lynette are taking
care of an older gentleman named Stan Levy.
He has come to their clinic to have his blood
sugar checked. Carol offers to assist
him and Lynette warns her of his kind.
His kind like to take advantage of nurses and
want all of their time and care exclusively.
Carol takes care of him and gets bogged down
with his care. Lucy helps Carter with a
boy named Brad Enloe and he is twelve.
He has leukemia and is sick with a fever and a
sore throat. Jeanie talks with Mr.
Preston about what she suspects. He
quietly tells her that the reason she has been
injured so much , is because they have been
trying to break Guinness World Records.
This is hard for her to believe. Mark
tries to find a shelter for Kevin to go to, so
that he will stay off of the streets.
Peter goes to see the doctor that Kerry
recommended and he is surprised to see that
she is deaf. This makes him
uncomfortable and she can sense it. Her
name is Dr. Parks and she is the best in the
city. Carol has a young black patient
that she is tending to and who is concerned
about her acne. Lynette comes in and
hears what Carol has to say to her.
Carol will only give her the medicine for the
acne if she starts taking birth control pills.
The medicine that she wants to prescribe
increases the chances of pregnancy and she
makes it a rule of hers to prescribe it only
with birth control pills. The girl tells
Carol that she does not plan on having sex
until she is married and that her mother would
not understand. Carol tells her that she
can not give her the medicine for her acne
then. This upsets Lynette and she
confronts Carol about it. Carter and
Lucy's young patient Brad is a candidate for
an immunotoxin therapy, but his mother's
insurance will not cover it. Lucy wants
to do his IV, but Carter will not let her.
Mark tells Anspaugh that Kerry knows the ER
better than any other candidate for the job,
but Anspaugh already has someone else in mind
for the position of chief. Two brothers
are brought in to the ER, Eddie and Marcus
Haney. They are carpet layers and they
were in a car accident, where the carpet glue
got all over the both of them. They are
stuck to each other and Eddie is injured.
He has an impalement and they need to get him
to the OR. Lucy gets to intubate him and
she does a great job. Kerry wants
pictures taken of the incident to document
interesting traumas for a new policy she is
implementing.
Carter gets stuck to the
guy's and so does Elizabeth. They need
to shock Eddie, but Carter and Elizabeth need
to get unstuck to him. They finally get
pulled off in time for Kerry to shock him.
They rush him up to the OR. Carter lost
part of his beard when they pulled him off, so
Lucy gets to cut his beard off. Mr.
Preston is working on his juggling for the
world record, but Jerry does not see him and
he bumps in to him. Reggie, the police
officer, comes in looking for Kevin.
Mark stalls him by telling him that he needs
more tests. Carter and Lucy's patient
Brad needs to be admitted, but Carter has to
lie to keep the insurance from not wanting to
pay. His mother overhears Carter telling
Lucy this and gets upset with Carter.
She could lose her insurance coverage if she
gets caught. Mark lets Kevin go before
they arrest him. He gives him $50.00 and
his pager number. He also gives him the
medicine that he needs. He wants him to
find a shelter to go to, so that he will be
safe. Carter finishes shaving his beard
off. Brad's mother took him home, where
he will probably die soon from the leukemia.
Mark tells Kerry that they have reopened the
search for a new chief of the ER. She
does not want to continue as interim chief, so
she quits the position and will not reapply
for chief. Peter tells Elizabeth that he
will let her be his intern. Jeanie helps
out the Preston's with jumping on a trampoline
to break a record. Mark goes to play
poker with the paramedics. Carter goes
to see about a room for rent that he saw
posted at the hospital. Kerry answers
the door. It is her house and she rents
a room to students. She has been
drinking and she asks Carter in. Doug
comes home from work early to spend time with
Carol in a bubble bath.
