Doug
is at Carol’s and he and her are having her
mother over for brunch.
She surprises Carol by showing up with
a boyfriend, Javier.
Doug is happy about it, because she was
finally nice to him. Carter and his gamma go
to see the doctor at the Kenner Institute.
This is where his cousin Chase is.
The doctor tells them that he is ready
to go home, because he thinks that nothing
else can be done to help him recover from the
brain damage caused by the drug overdose.
Mrs. Carter is ready for him to come
home, but Carter thinks that he can
rehabilitate better there. Peter has spent the
night at Elizabeth’s.
He tells her that he has Reese's
baptism to go to.
Carol and Mark take care of Paul
Canterna who is 31 years old with severe
chemical burns.
Mark gives him some calcium and he has
some tests run. Roger is at the baptism with
Carla and Reese.
Jackie and her kids are there also.
They ask about his new girlfriend, but
he tells them that she is not his girlfriend.
A man is brought in after being hit by a car.
He has cerebral palsy and it is hard
for them to understand what he is saying. Romano and Elizabeth have lunch to discuss her fellowship and
him sponsoring her.
He also lets her know that he is
interested in her.
She tells him that dating a colleague
is against her policy. Mark tells Kerry that the chemical has left him hypocalcemic.
That means that the fluoride is binding
to the calcium and will eventually cause his
heart to fail.
Mark tells him that he only has about
twelve hours to live. Carter and Anna’s
patient has a broken arm and a laceration on
the hand and he will need surgery. He keeps trying to communicate with them by banging his foot
on the table, but they still don’t
understand him. Doug treats a baby that is
addicted to methadone.
The mother had been stealing the
methadone that the doctor’s have prescribed.
She ends up leaving the baby at the
hospital.
An older woman named Loretta Weinbach
comes in with her fiancé.
His name is Daniel and they are going
to be getting married soon.
Kerry thinks that she may have
pneumonia, because of the birds that they take
care of.
Paul tells Carol that he would like to
see his daughter Molli.
He hasn't seen her since she was a baby
six years ago.
Carol calls his ex-wife, but she does
not want her to see him Carol goes to speak
with his ex-wife, Sandy, but she still does
not want her daughter to be put through
something like that.
She tells Carol that Paul had left them
and has not tried to make any contact until
now. Carol
tells her that her father died when she was a
little girl, and she wasn't allowed to see
him. A six year old boy is brought in after
his father accidentally backed over him with
the car. The surgery goes well and the father
is relieved to know that the boy will not die.
Kerry accidentally learns that she has tested
positive for HIV. She tells them about it and
they think that it must be a mistake. Daniel tells Kerry that he is not going to tell her about the
AIDS, but Kerry tells him that if he
doesn’t, then she will.
Carter and Anna finally figure out that
he wants to use the phone to call someone who
knows how to communicate with him.
They contact Katherine Dunlap, his
personal assistant, and she comes to see him.
His name is Mr. Lorenzo and he speaks a
different language.
That is why they could not understand
him. Elizabeth
tells Peter about Romano asking her out and
her turning him down. Mrs. Carter tells John
that she agrees with him and will keep Chase
at the institute.
She tells him that his grandfather
would like him to run the family business, but
Carter would rather be a doctor.
She understands.
Paul dictates a note to his daughter.
Carol reads it back to him and he dies.
Peter invites Elizabeth to go to a
party with him for Reese.
He isn’t going to be ashamed of her.
Anna and Carter go outside for a break
and a mysterious man comes out of a cab.
Anna goes to him and they hug.

'Cop Land') with an unusual chemical burn is
brought into the ER with only hours to live,
Nurse Hathaway (Julianna Margulies) tries to
help him make peace with the estranged family he
will leave behind. After attending his son's
baptism, Dr. Benton (Eriq La Salle) operates on
a child injured in a car accident. Dr. Corday
(Alex Kingston) has an unsettling encounter with
Dr. Romano (guest star Paul McCrane), which will
affect her relationship with Benton. Dr. Carter
(Noah Wyle) comes to an understanding with his
grandmother (guest star Frances Sternhagen) over
his future and the future of his cousin Chase
(guest star Jonathan Scarfe). Dr. Ross (George
Clooney) treats a drug-addicted infant. Jeanie
(Gloria Reuben) is angered by a young man who
was injured in a dangerous game with his
friends. Anthony Edwards, Laura Innes and Maria
Bello also star.

Fear: A 31-year-old security guard is
brought in suffering from severe chemical burns,
and a 21-year-old man is wheeled in after
falling 75 feet into a river. Meanwhile, Benton
is upset that Carla's boyfriend is part of
Reese's baptism.
