Carter
goes to see about getting a loan. The
loan officer isn't too impressed with him,
especially since he can only show one tax
return. The officer can not give him a
loan without a co-signer. Morganstern
comes to see Peter about the meeting
concerning the death of Dr. Swanson. We
learn that Scott Anspaugh has died and his
funeral is today. Anna speaks with
Carter and she tries to help him come up with
some ways to earn some money. She seems
to think that it is funny. Jeanie goes
to Donald Anspaugh's house and they discuss
the funeral service. Scott has given her
a box of his things. It includes some
CD's and old issues of Soap Opera Digest.
Peter, Morganstern, Kerry, Corday and other
doctors go to the M & M regarding Dr.
Swanson's death. Peter tells his side of
what happened and about why he had Dr.
Morganstern step aside. Dr. Kayson asks
a few more questions and then they adjourn
until after lunch. An abortion clinic
has been bombed and some of the patients are
brought to the ER. The clinic was also
used as a prenatal center for expectant
mothers. Kerry and Anna are working with
a woman, Brianna Thomas who is eighteen weeks
pregnant. She was in the middle of her
abortion when the bombing happened.
Kerry tells Anna to finish the abortion, but
she will not. She walks out and Kerry
does it. A man brings in his elderly
father, Mr. Newton, with a bladder infection.
He is severely dehydrated and unconscious.
Carter takes care of him. His son does
not want his father to have a lot of tests and
he does not want a large hospital bill.
The son apparently has not been taking good
care of his father. The M & M starts
back up and Morganstern has his time to tell
what happened. He says that Peter let
his emotions get in the way of the patient.
They tell them that it will need further
investigation. Peter is suspended until
further notice. Doug takes care of a
young mother, Zoe who is six months pregnant.
Her boyfriend, Donny watches concerned.
Carter calls Social Services to come look at
his elderly patient. They are going to
place him in a home due to the neglect.
Anna takes care of a woman, Ms. Martinez, who
was in the blast. She was one of the
protestors outside of the clinic. Her
ears are ringing and she has something in her
eye. She tries to tell Anna her views on
abortion, but Anna would rather not listen to
it. She tells Anna that she is against
violence. Anna tells her that it is
probably because of the protests that the
clinic was bombed. Doug's patient Zoe
ends up in a coma. The baby is okay, but
a decision has to be made. Peter comes
down and tells Corday that he has been
suspended. The paramedics bring one of
their trainees in after being caught in the
ruble of the bombing. It is Allison
Beaumont, the patient Elizabeth had cared for
after an automobile accident. Romano and
Corday work on Allison, but she stops
breathing. Elizabeth does CPR on her for
a long time and Romano tells her to call the
time of death. She tells him no and
continues to work with her. Mark asks
for Peter's help, but he tells him that he is
on suspension. Mark tells him that he is
not suspended by the ER, so he helps.
Carter's elderly patient wakes up and wants to
know where is son is. Carter tells him
that his son is no longer is guardian and this
upsets him. Carter tells him that he is
just trying to help him. Peter is able
to help his patient and carries the patient to
the OR. When they arrive, Morganstern
takes over and Peter leaves. Zoe's
parents come in to see her. They do not
want Donny around. Kerry's patient,
Brianna Thomas, thanks her. This was not
the first abortion she has ever had and
probably will not be her last.
This
seems to be the method of birth control she is
using. Doug tells Zoe's parents that
they will need to make a decision. They
can do a c-section and take the baby early or
keep the girl on life support and let the baby
grow until the 9 months are over. They
do not want their daughter to be an incubator,
but they want their daughter to be okay.
Allison made it through the surgery.
Jeanie sings at Scott's funeral. It is a
song that she heard him listen to and sing for
a while, "Good Riddance (Time of Your
Life)" by Green Day.
She tells
Donald Anspaugh that Scott was wanting to go
into the Army when he got older, this seemed
to help him understand his son. Romano
apologizes to Elizabeth about the way he
behaved when Allison was brought in. He
invites her for a drink, but she declines.
Morganstern calls Kerry to his office.
He has the tape of Dr. Swanson's surgery.
He wants to confess that it was his fault.
He knows that he was covering up for his own
mistake. Zoe's parents decide to let the
baby stay in their daughter until time for it
to be born. She is going to have a
little girl. They are going to try to
get custody of it an they do not want Donny to
have anything to do with it. Carter
changes his mind about his elderly patient
going to the home, but it may be too late.
If they do not take him to a home, then
charges will be filed against the son.
Morganstern catches up with Peter before he
leaves. He tells him the truth and that
he is no longer suspended. He also tells
him that he has resigned as chief of Emergency
Medicine. Peter goes to see Elizabeth.
He tells her that he lost his mentor today and
then they kiss.
