It
is a slow snowy night and Carter is coming in
to work. Jerry tells him that he is
tired of having to work the night shift.
He has been working it for over four months
now, since Kerry is punishing him for blowing
up the ambulance bay. Carter finds Anna
sleeping in an exam room. He covers her
up to keep her warm and she wakes up.
She asks him about Chase and Carter tells him
that he is doing good. A man is brought
in with multiple gun shot wounds. It is
a security guard that was trying to help a
woman that was being raped. They are not
able to save him. Kerry meets Anspaugh
coming in to work in the parking deck.
He tells her that the board will be meeting
about accepting Synergix as their ER
management. They approved it with
Kerry's urging, but now Kerry does not want
it. Cynthia hints to Mark about moving
in with him. She tells him that her rent
is going up, but Mark offers to help her out
with the rent. Jerry talks to Kerry
about coming back to days. She agrees to
let him, but he will have to pull a double
because Randi called in. He tells her
that he will do it. The rape victim is
brought in. She is has been thrown down
a flight of stairs and was being strangled,
however, she was not raped. She has the
word WHORE carved in her chest by a knife, not
his usual magic marker. Doug comes in to
work and finds Cynthia in the lounge crying.
She is upset about Mark. Doug has to
listen to her whine about it. Peter is
asking around about daycare and babysitters
for Reese. He thinks that it is too soon
for that, but Carla wants it. Doug sees
Carol with Greg Powell. He asks her if
that is the paramedic she kissed and she tells
him yes. Doug gets upset and so does
Carol. Carol tells him that she still
needs time. Kerry asks for Marks help
when meeting with the board about not wanting
Synergix anymore. He agrees to help her.
The rapist is brought in. He is only a
nineteen year old man. He has been shot
several times and is bleeding badly from dog
bites. Nobody seems to want to take care
of him. Mark gets called out to work on
another patient, so Carter takes over his
care. A woman named Mary is brought in
by her husband Robert. They are both
mentally retarded and she is having a baby.
Carol and Jeanie are taking care of her.
She is seven centimeters dilated and she is
going to have the baby any time now.
Carter's patient, Jack Miller, the rapist,
needs a blood transfusion. The blood
supply is low and Carter decides to auto
transfuse him with his own blood. This
is very risky and Anna does not think that it
is a good idea. Carter does it anyways.
The patient ends up okay and they are able to
take him to the OR. Anna is upset with
Carter now though. Ellis West comes to
talk with Kerry. He is upset with her
about wanting to go to the board about not
want S.P.G. involved with the ER management.
He tells her that he has wasted his time there
if that happens. She tells him that she
does not like being used. Carol comes to
get Kerry to see her pregnant patient Mary.
She is wanting to leave the ER. She is
afraid that they will take her baby away from
her. Kerry sees that she is nine
centimeters dilated now and there is no time.
Corday asks Peter if he would be interested in
perusing more in their relationship. He
tells her that he would not be comfortable
with that. Mary's sister Judy comes to
see her. She is just in time to see her
have the baby and it is a healthy baby girl.
They name her Madison. Her sister asks
Carol when social service will be there.
Carol tells her that they do not call social
services when there are loving parents.
She does not know how they can take care of a
baby when they can't really take care of
themselves. Carol works with the new
mother and father to teach them some parenting
skills. Mark finds out that Cynthia has
left work upset. Carla comes to get the
paperwork from Peter for Reese's daycare, but
he hasn't made up his mind yet. He asks
her where Reese is and she tells him that he
is in the car with her friend. Peter
goes outside to see him and gets to meet
Carla's new boyfriend, Roger. Chase
comes to see Carter. He thanks him and
Anna for their help. Anna is still upset
with Carter. Kerry runs in with Ellis
West again. He tells her that he has
withdrawn the contract. He does not want
her to think he was using her. Peter
ends up waiting for Corday to get off of work.
He wants to know if she wants to go play
darts, but nothing else. She accepts and
the leave together. Doug sees Carol
taking care of the parents with a new baby.
He tells her to take as much time as she
needs, he will wait for her. Carter goes
to Anna's place. He tells her that she
was right. He did want the rapist to
die. He did not want to waste the good
blood on him and now he feels bad about it.
