Mark is glad to be back home.  He is tells Carol that he is ready for work.  Carol tells him that she is glad that he is getting over what had happened to him.  He is glad that she and Doug are together.  He hands her a note that Doug has sent her.  It is marked with her initials (CH) on the envelope.  She will read it later.  Carter and Anna are working on an athlete who was hurt doing ballet.  Carter asks her if she is still mad about him and his families money, but she tells him to focus on their patient.  Romano tells Peter that he has made the short list on his team and that he will think about letting him on it.  He needs a team player that can get along with Lizzy Corday.  Peter tells him that he can keep up with her.  He will make his final decision soon.  Carol gets to the ER and a larger crowd is there.  Cynthia put the wrong opening date for the clinic in the paper and Carol is not prepared.  She has to use one of her days off to work in the clinic now.  Kerry doesn't like the idea, but she has a new nurse, named Yosh Takata, who starts in the ER today.  Maggie and Jeanie discuss Jeanie being laid off.  Maggie tells her that it is illegal to discriminate against HIV workers.  Jeanie tells her that it was because of the budget and not because of her HIV status.  They could let her go a year ago if that was the case.  Cynthia is glad to see Mark back.  He tells her that he missed her, but she could not tell because he did not call.  However, he did bring her back a necklace with a diamond on it.  She loves it.  A boy named Rodney Price was hit by a car on his way to school.  It was a hit and run and Peter takes him up to surgery.  They notice from his x-rays that his abdominal organs are reversed and this is a rare case.  Romano is glad for this case and lets Corday scrub in with him and Peter.  Carter's student George Henry is back.  Carter was not able to sign off on his paperwork, because Henry did not complete his clerkship.  He has to do it over again.  Kerry talks to Jeanie and apologizes again.  She tells her that she sent a high recommendation to Atlanta for her and that she can probably get a PA job there.  She will miss her, but Jeanie doesn't seem too grateful.  A bus pulls up at the clinic.  It is a load of homeless people needing a physical.  Carol tells them to come back next week, but Cynthia told them on the phone that walk ups were welcome.  Carol yells at Cynthia, and them Mark yells back at Carol.  Cynthia sees a note at the desk with her initials on it, CH (Cynthia Hooper).  She thinks that it is a note from Mark.  Herb Spivak is brought in after being bit by a python.  Mark is taking care of him.  He happens to be an attorney, who would rather do odd things instead of being paid by his clients.  Kerry is told that she has left her lights on, so she goes to her car to turn them off.  When she gets outside, she finds out that it is Ellis West just wanting to see her.  He thanks her for Synergix getting the ER contract.  He has brought her a big bouquet of flowers.  Jeanie meets Yosh.  She is surprised that there was enough money in the budget for a new nurse, but not enough to keep her.  Al calls Jeanie and tells her that his position in Atlanta has fallen through.  Jeanie offers to help Carol in her clinic, what can they do, fire her?  Cynthia finds Mark getting on the elevator and thanks him for the sexy note he left for her.  She tells him that the answer is yes, she will.  The door shuts and Mark has no idea what she is referring to.   Peter's patient, Rodney, is out of surgery.  Peter went to school with his father.  He tells him about his unusual organ condition and tells him that they would like to do a genetic study on his son.  They will need to get blood from Rodney, Rodney's mother and himself.  He agrees to let Peter do it.  Rodney's blood will not clot and he starts to bleed.  His stats start falling and his lungs are filling with blood.  He dies after Peter works on him as long as possible.  Mark discusses the budget with Kerry and asks her about a raise she has been given.  She tells him that it is because of the administrative duties she has taken over.  Jeanie overhears this and is upset.  She goes to Kerry and tells her that she wants to see the budget herself.  Kerry doesn't think that is a good idea and does not let her.  Carter and Henry are working on a patient and Anna is working on the same one, since Henry forgot to mark him off of the board.  Carter disagrees with Anna's method for treatment and vice-versa.  Benton asks Isaac, Rodney's father, if they can do an autopsy on Rodney.  He tells her that he does not want his kid carved up.  Peter apologizes to him and tells him that he understands.  Henry and Carter are working on a patient and Henry's allergies are really bothering him.  He tells Carter that he isn't feeling good and Carter thinks he is just getting sick.  Henry collapses on the floor.  He stops breathing and Anna has to intubate him.  He is allergic to his latex gloves and it puts him in shock.  Mark's lawyer patient sees all of the excitement.  He wants to be Mark's lawyer and Mark will not have to pay him.  He will just have to let him do some procedures in the ER.  He can make the Law family disappear from Mark's life.  Peter tells Romano that he is reconsidering working on his team.  Romano tells him to get the father's consent for the autopsy on the boy.  Peter tells him that he will not.  Elizabeth is able to get the consent.  She tells Peter that Romano has scheduled him the next morning for surgery, apparently he wanted him on his team anyways.  Henry wakes up and thanks Carter and Anna for saving his life.  He could see them working as a team while he was unconscious.  He calls them his angels.  Corday and Carol go for drinks.  Kerry goes up to see Anspaugh and he is meeting with Jeanie.  She has told him that she thinks she is being let go because of her being HIV positive.  Kerry tells her that she should know better.  He tells Jeanie that he will look over the budget again and try to work something out.

NBC Review

TURNS FOR THE WORSE -- Nurse Hathaway (Julianna Margulies) is overwhelmed by the number of women and children who show up for her new clinic. A letter that Dr. Ross (George Clooney) wrote to Nurse Hathaway is misplaced, leading to romantic complications for Dr. Greene (Anthony Edwards). The tension between Dr. Carter (Noah Wyle) and Dr. Del Amico (Maria Bello) is overshadowed when Carter's med student, Henry (guest star Chad Lowe), faces a life-threatening emergency. Jeanie (Gloria Reuben) confronts Dr. Weaver (Laura Innes) over the issue of budget cuts. Dr. Benton (Eriq La Salle) and Dr. Corday (Alex Kingston) operate on a boy with an extremely rare anatomical abnormality.
