Anna has not found a place to stay since she has moved to Chicago.  She is living in a motel until she can fine a place.  Carter goes to speak with Anspaugh about switching his residency from surgery to emergency medicine.  This infuriates Anspaugh and he tells him that this is not acceptable.  Mark tells Maggie Doyle that he has bought a new gun.  It is a Sig Sauer nine-millimeter.  Doug asks him about Rachel and Mark tells him that she has gone back home with Jen.  He asks Doug to write him a prescription for some Percodan.  Mark tells him that it is for his pain and that he is having a hard time sleeping at night.  Anna talks to Carol about finding a place to live.  Carol tells her that she may need to find a room mate to split the cost.  Anna tells Carol that she comes from a large family.  She has seven brothers and is looking forward to finding a place with her own bathroom.  Carter goes to Mark about switching his residency, but Mark has his mind on other things.  Peter gets page while in surgery with Dr. Hicks.  He has to leave.  An athlete is brought in with pains in his chest.  His name is Mr. Munder and he is having a heart attack.  An elderly 92 year old man named Mr. Curwane is brought in in bad shape.  He is dehydrated and has not been taken care of.  His wife cares for him at their home.  Doug asks Carol out, but she already has other plans.  She is seeing someone else at the hospital.  Carter talks to Kerry about switching to the ER.  She tells him that the matching is too late, there isn't anymore money available in the budget.  He tells her that he does not need any money.  Doug releases a patient, Chuck Martinez, a kid with hip pains, that Anna was taking care of.  She speaks to him and is angry.  She is not her supervisor and needs to leave her patients alone.  Carter tells Mrs. Curwane's that her husband needs to be in a nursing home.  She tells Carter and Jeanie to just fix him up and let her take him home.  Charlie is brought in.  Anna is going to tend to her, but Carol hollers out for someone to get Doug.  She has overdosed and was found in the mud.  Doug learns from a drug dealer or a pimp named Tommy that Charlie has been hanging with, that her mother is in jail.  Kerry learns that Jeanie and Al are together.  She is worried about Jeanie.  Jeanie tells Kerry that she is happy with Al and not afraid.  She has been in love with him since she first met him at age sixteen.  Jackie comes to see Peter.  She finds him in the chapel.  Carter has three specialists to come and check on the Curwanes.  He wants them to be able to go into a nursing home together.  Carter is suppose to be doing his rounds with Anspaugh at this time.  Anspaugh tells him to get upstairs and Carter tells Anspaugh that he won't be joining him.  Anspaugh tells him again and Carter tells him that he will be there if and when he can!  Adele Neuman comes to check on Charlie, but she is gone.  Anna and Doug go to find her.  Anna tells Doug that Charlie reminds her of herself.   Mark gets scared on the train and ends up pulling out a gun on some juveniles.  When Carter gets off of work he finds Dr. Anspaugh.  He is on his way home.  He tells him that he can be a competent surgeon, but that he will never be a great surgeon.  He thinks that he can be a great doctor though.  Anspaugh tells him to find him in the morning and he will try and work something out.  Doug goes to see Carol after her date.  He kisses her and she kisses him back.  Benton goes in and hold his baby as Carla watches.
