Carter
over sleeps and is late for rounds.
Rachel has a Brownie Troop meeting today and
Mark has forgotten about it and is scheduled
to work. Carol has received her medical
school entrance exam scores, but she is too
afraid to open it. Doug grabs it from
her to open, but Kerry is on the review board
and already knows that she passed. Peter
goes to Carla to help her learn how to check
her blood sugar. Jerry searches for a
lab rat that is worth $5000.oo to the one who
finds it. A small boy is brought in
unconscious. His name is Joel and he has
previously had heart surgery. His
mother, Andrea Thompson is worried. She
was unable to wake him up from his sleep.
Andrea doesn't want to leave his side, but
Doug finds it hard to work on him with her
asking a lot of questions. He asks Carol
to take her out to the chairs. Carol
tells her that she will get her when Joel
wakes up or if he gets worse. A gunshot
victim is brought in. Carter saves him
by stopping the bleeding with a Foley-balloon
trick he had learned while reading about it in
People magazine. Peter tells him that it
was a good save, but Anspaugh could care less.
He doesn't even ask Carter to scrub in.
He has Dale Edson assist him. Carter is
in trouble with Anspaugh for being late on
rounds. Anspaugh is still upset with him
for what happened earlier with his
"bookie" patient. A woman is
brought in with a bucket stuck on her back
side, her name is Brenda Smythe. Mark
removes the bucket by using her husband's
Swiss army knife. Carla calls Peter at
work to bring her insulin. Carla has
gestational diabetes and Peter knows that she
will need some help. Carter takes care
of a patient that Edson and Anspaugh did
surgery on. Peter goes to take care of
Carla and decides he will take a personal day
and stay with her. Gunderson, the person
Carter saved and Anspaugh and Edson operated
on, goes into respiratory arrest. He is
having an allergic reaction to an antibiotic
prescribed by Edson. Carter saves his
life for the second time. Edson had not
done a complete history on the patient with
allergy information, prior to the surgery.
Kerry asks Carol to come look at a patient
with her and while they are gone, Joel goes in
to cardiac arrest. Carol runs to get the
mother. Just as Chuny is calling the
time of death, they walk in. The woman
starts crying and breaking down. She
tells the other that it is important for
parents to say goodbye. She wants her to
hold her baby. and take as much time as
needed. Jeanie steps in one of Jerry's
mouse traps and she is getting upset.
They are in her way. Edson lies about
his chart, by filling in the part he had left
off. Anspaugh is not aware of the
dishonesty. Mr. Smythe, has gotten a
button stuck up his nose. Mark has to
remove it. He had seen and heard Mr. and
Mrs. Smythe earlier putting the button up his
nose. He had heard John call his wife
Ms. Wilkerson and Mark gets suspicious.
He calls Nina Pomerantz down to look at them.
They tell them that they are clinical
researchers doing a study on creative problem
solving in emergency medicine. Jackie
sees Peter at the grocery store shopping for
Carla. She is proud of him. Kerry
is working with Carol. She lets her
intubate a patient and she does a great job.
Chuny tells Carol that it looks like Kerry has
a new pet. A drunk man is brought in and
Kerry needs a bed to put him on. She
needs the room where Andrea is with her baby.
Carol tells her that she can't go in there
because the mother is holding her baby.
Kerry tells Carol that she needs to stop
thinking like a nurse if she is going to be a
good medical student. Carol reminds her
that she is still a nurse now though.
Maggie goes outside to smoke and her and
Carter talk. He tells her about what
happened with Edson falsifying a chart.
When they go back inside, she gives Carter the
opportunity to tell on Edson, but he doesn't.
Edson later begs Carter not to tell.
Mark gives Rachel's Brownie Troop a look at
the ER. This makes her very happy.
Mark asks Nina out to go bowling with him and
Rachel and she accepts. Andrea thanks
Carol for letting her have time with her dead
son. Maggie offers Carter a Heiniken
after their shift is over. She tells him that
he needs to tell another surgeon he can trust
about Edson. He tells her that she is
great, honest, funny, and beautiful. She
tells Carter that he doesn't have a chance
with her. Wendy almost kills the reward
mouse, but Jeanie gives it mouth to mouth and
revives it. She will get the reward
money and let Jerry have 10 % of it.
Carter takes Peter's charts to Carla's.
He wanted to talk to Benton about Edson, but
Peter takes the charts from him and shuts the
door before Carter can say anything.
Mark and Nina take the girls bowling.
Emma and Rachel seem to be getting along well.
Mark and Nina seem to be getting along well
also. They share a kiss. Carol
decides she would rather be a nurse than a
doctor. She goes to nurse's night out
with the others and shoots pool.

NBC Review
WHAT'S UP DOC? - Hathaway
passes her MCAT with flying colors and Weaver
begins treating her like a med student. However,
Hathaway decides that she loves nursing too much
for a career change. Benton discovers that Carla
has diabetes, which gives him concern for his
unborn child. Carter fails to report Edson's
misdiagnosis, fearing that Anspaugh wouldn't
believe him anyway. A genetically engineered
mouse escapes the lab and runs loose through the
ER.

Hathaway receives her medical exam score and
must decide whether to pursue medical school.
Meanwhile, Ross tries valiantly to save a
