Carter over sleeps and is late for rounds.  Rachel has a Brownie Troop meeting today and Mark has forgotten about it and is scheduled to work.  Carol has received her medical school entrance exam scores, but she is too afraid to open it.  Doug grabs it from her to open, but Kerry is on the review board and already knows that she passed.  Peter goes to Carla to help her learn how to check her blood sugar.  Jerry searches for a lab rat that is worth $5000.oo to the one who finds it.  A small boy is brought in unconscious.  His name is Joel and he has previously had heart surgery.  His mother, Andrea Thompson is worried.  She was unable to wake him up from his sleep.  Andrea doesn't want to leave his side, but Doug finds it hard to work on him with her asking a lot of questions.  He asks Carol to take her out to the chairs.  Carol tells her that she will get her when Joel wakes up or if he gets worse.  A gunshot victim is brought in.  Carter saves him by stopping the bleeding with a Foley-balloon trick he had learned while reading about it in People magazine.  Peter tells him that it was a good save, but Anspaugh could care less.  He doesn't even ask Carter to scrub in.  He has Dale Edson assist him.  Carter is in trouble with Anspaugh for being late on rounds.  Anspaugh is still upset with him for what happened earlier with his "bookie" patient.  A woman is brought in with a bucket stuck on her back side, her name is Brenda Smythe.  Mark removes the bucket by using her husband's Swiss army knife.  Carla calls Peter at work to bring her insulin.  Carla has gestational diabetes and Peter knows that she will need some help.  Carter takes care of a patient that Edson and Anspaugh did surgery on.  Peter goes to take care of Carla and decides he will take a personal day and stay with her.  Gunderson, the person Carter saved and Anspaugh and Edson operated on, goes into respiratory arrest.  He is having an allergic reaction to an antibiotic prescribed by Edson.  Carter saves his life for the second time.  Edson had not done a complete history on the patient with allergy information, prior to the surgery.  Kerry asks Carol to come look at a patient with her and while they are gone, Joel goes in to cardiac arrest.  Carol runs to get the mother.  Just as Chuny is calling the time of death, they walk in.  The woman starts crying and breaking down.  She tells the other that it is important for parents to say goodbye.  She wants her to hold her baby. and take as much time as needed.  Jeanie steps in one of Jerry's mouse traps and she is getting upset.  They are in her way.  Edson lies about his chart, by filling in the part he had left off.  Anspaugh is not aware of the dishonesty.  Mr. Smythe, has gotten a button stuck up his nose.  Mark has to remove it.  He had seen and heard Mr. and Mrs. Smythe earlier putting the button up his nose.  He had heard John call his wife Ms. Wilkerson and Mark gets suspicious.  He calls Nina Pomerantz down to look at them.  They tell them that they are clinical researchers doing a study on creative problem solving in emergency medicine.  Jackie sees Peter at the grocery store shopping for Carla.  She is proud of him.  Kerry is working with Carol.  She lets her intubate a patient and she does a great job.  Chuny tells Carol that it looks like Kerry has a new pet.  A drunk man is brought in and Kerry needs a bed to put him on.  She needs the room where Andrea is with her baby.  Carol tells her that she can't go in there because the mother is holding her baby.  Kerry tells Carol that she needs to stop thinking like a nurse if she is going to be a good medical student.  Carol reminds her that she is still a nurse now though.  Maggie goes outside to smoke and her and Carter talk.  He tells her about what happened with Edson falsifying a chart.  When they go back inside, she gives Carter the opportunity to tell on Edson, but he doesn't.  Edson later begs Carter not to tell.  Mark gives Rachel's Brownie Troop a look at the ER.  This makes her very happy.  Mark asks Nina out to go bowling with him and Rachel and she accepts.  Andrea thanks Carol for letting her have time with her dead son.  Maggie offers Carter a Heiniken after their shift is over. She tells him that he needs to tell another surgeon he can trust about Edson.  He tells her that she is great, honest, funny, and beautiful.  She tells Carter that he doesn't have a chance with her.  Wendy almost kills the reward mouse, but Jeanie gives it mouth to mouth and revives it.  She will get the reward money and let Jerry have 10 % of it.  Carter takes Peter's charts to Carla's.  He wanted to talk to Benton about Edson, but Peter takes the charts from him and shuts the door before Carter can say anything.  Mark and Nina take the girls bowling.  Emma and Rachel seem to be getting along well.  Mark and Nina seem to be getting along well also.  They share a kiss.  Carol decides she would rather be a nurse than a doctor.  She goes to nurse's night out with the others and shoots pool.
