Carter
talks with Anspaugh about the death of Dennis
Gant. All of the blue team is having to
talk with him. He wants to know what
could have been done to prevent something like
this from happening and ever happening again.
Mark brings Chuny roses. The nurses have
staged the "pink flu" and are
calling in sick for the day. Carol ends
up working alone in the ER for the day and
night. They end up having to close the
ER to trauma. Doug goes to see Charlie.
She is all upset with him for telling about
her being raped. She asks Doug to be her
foster parent, but Doug tells her that he
can't. This makes her even more upset
with him. A man is brought in after
collapsing at the airport. He is from or
has been in a different country and may have
an infectious disease. Dr. Greg Fischer
is called in to help with the matter.
Carter wants to know if Peter wants to speak
at Dennis Gant's memorial service, but he does
not. Carter goes to get his mail out of
his hospital mail box and sees that Dennis has
some mail in his. It is his evaluation
from Benton. Jeanie works with Dr.
Fischer to find out what is making her patient
sick. Kerry tells Jeanie that he would
be a good doctor for her to start seeing, so
that she doesn't have to go across town for
her HIV appointments. She tells Jeanie
that his partner had died of AIDS last year.
Social Services have found Charlie's mother.
She only lived a few blocks away and Charlie
had been lying about it. Doug sees that
the woman has been a bad influence on Charlie,
but it would be best for her to go with her.
Carter and Benton are in surgery with Dr.
Hicks. Carter tells Peter off about
Gant's evaluation and how Benton had never let
him know how well he was doing. He
causes a big scene and then dismisses himself.
Carter is feeling guilty also for not haven
been there for Dennis. Fischer and
Jeanie see that her patient has malaria and
can now be treated properly. He asks
Jeanie to come over to his place early to
watch a comet that they are both interested
in. Jeanie feels safe with him so she
agrees. Jeanie tells Kerry about it and
she thinks it is great. Jeanie tells her
that it is not a date because he is gay, but
Kerry tells her that he is not gay.
Jeanie thought that when Kerry told her that
his partner had died of AIDS that he was his
lover, but he was his business partner.
This makes Jeannie nervous, but she still
goes. A homeless man is brought in by
his friend after being crushed by a dumpster.
Carol is the only nurse to assist and has her
hands full. The man dies. Carol
and Kerry are cleaning up and they see that
Carol accidentally hooked up the wrong blood
type to the patient. Carol feels bad
about it and wants to be written up, but Mark
and Kerry tell her that it was because they
were so understaffed. This does not make
Carol feel good so she tells her supervisor
Mary about what happened. Carter speaks
at Dennis Gant's memorial service and everyone
thinks he did a great job. Benton
arrives too late to attend. Carter
introduces him to Gant's father. He
tells him he is sorry and that he had a great
son. He says that he was a little tough
on him, but his father replies that it is good
to be tough. Jeanie and Greg go to Doc
Magoo's after having seen the comet.
Greg goes to kiss her and she pulls away.
She tells him that she is HIV positive.
Greg gets quiet and Jeanie feels awkward.
Carter runs in to Benton waiting for the
train. Peter doesn't know what to think
about Gant's death. Carter tells him not
to be telling him how he should feel. He
never cared about Gant.

GUILTY BY ASSOCIATION --
Guilty over Gant's death, Carter blames himself
for not being a better friend. Benton remains
unwilling to talk about the matter, further
irritating Carter. Charlie (Kirsten Dunst)
asks Ross to be her guardian -- but Ross
refuses. Meanwhile, the nurses stage a sick out
to protest cuts in overtime pay, leaving
Hathaway to pick up the slack. The result is the
death of a homeless man that Hathaway
administered the wrong blood to.
