Since Carter's apartment has burned down, Dennis Gant asks him to stay with him.  Doug has a one night stand and the woman seizes while he is carrying her home.  He rushes her to the ER.  They ask her name, but he doesn't even know it.  Carter is in charge of the slides for Dr. Benton's presentation.  The slides were burned in the fire, but he doesn't have time to let Benton know until it is too late.  Carter meets Abby Keaton.  She has him assist with a young patient of hers.  Carter is really good with her.  By the time Doug finds out the woman's name, she is dead.  Her name was Nadine.  She tested positive for cocaine and Mark tells Doug that he needs to be tested.  Doug takes offense.  The police come and question Doug about Nadine, but he is unable to help since he really didn't know her.  Carter tells Mark that he received a card from Dr. Lewis; Mark didn't get one.  Carol's mom comes to see her.  She gives Carol money, but Carol says she doesn't want to take a loan from her.  She tells her to consider it rent.  She wants to stay with Carol on Saturday nights to be closer to her church and friends.  The nurses get dance lessons from a country dancing welder.  He is interested in Jeanie, but she turns him down (due to her illness).  Nadine's sister comes to the ER.  She speaks to Doug about her sister, but she doesn't know the true circumstances.  She tells him that her sister was an epileptic.  She usually wears a bracelet to let people know so that she won't drink too much.  Doug never saw a bracelet.  Peter goes to see Carla at her restaurant.  Carol runs into Doug at the train station.  He was waiting to see her.  Carol tells him that he did it all on his own and that she can not help him.  She gets on the train and leaves.  Doug goes home and has some messages on his answering machine from girls he has met.  He finds the bracelet of Nadine's in his bathroom and then he erases his messages.

NBC Review

BEDSIDE MANNERS MATTER -- Benton is busted by Dr. Keaton (Glenne Headly) for his lack of compassion for the pediatric patients and families. Carter, on the other hand, is praised for understanding the emotional side of medicine. Carter also moves in with Gant (Omar Epps) since he is temporarily homeless after an apartment fire destroyed his place. When a seizing woman is brought into the ER, Ross recognizes her as his one-night-stand from the night before. However, he can't even remember her name. Greene turns down Lewis's offer to vacation in Hawaii, but agrees to apartment-sit for her while she's away.
