Shep asks Carol to play hooky with him for the day, but she tells him that it will have to wait for the weekend.  He is tired of working with all of those sick people.  Carter meets an old friend of Harper who matched at the hospital the same as Carter.  His name is Dale Edson and him and Harper know each other from school.  Dr. Hicks tells Benton  that he's been removed from some surgery because another doctor does not want to work with him after what happened between him and Doug Ross.  Peter has Jeanie discharge a patient without having even seen her.  The lady later comes back and has to have her appendix removed.  Peter blames Jeanie for not catching it.  Susan tries to handle a difficult patient, but Kerry ends up taking care of her because Susan does not have the patience.  A boy's mother has been shot and he is a witness to it.  He is in shock and Shep hates to see him that way.  Iris is back in the ER to do a video series on traumas.  Carter takes a patient with symptoms of an appendicitis to the OR with Dr. Hicks.  After opening him up, they find that his appendix is okay and that he had a toothpick in him.  Dr. Hick congratulates him on his first "toothpicdectomy".  She tells him that he should be concerned because the students who have done the less procedures will not be back next year.  Carter finds out that Dale Edson has done more surgical work than he has.  He tricks Dale and Harper into going to lunch in the cafeteria and then he has Jerry page him after 10 minutes.  This makes him available to run the trauma that Dale was supposed to run.  Harper finds out and gets very upset with him.  They meet after work and she dumps him.  Benton gets on to Jeanie for not properly checking out the patient for an appendicitis before she was discharged.  Benton has to tell the husband that it was actually his fault.  The husband tells Jeanie and she asks Benton why he hates her.  He tells Jeanie that he is over her.  Doug receives $25,000 from his dad, which would help him with a patient he wants to help financially, but he does not want to accept the money.  Susan meets her dad at the court house, but he tells her that he does not want to be caught in the middle of her and Chloe.  He really thinks Chloe has changed and her fiancée, Joe is a cop.  Susan is told that Chloe will get visitation rights 3 nights a week.  She is also told that if she continues to fight for the adoption of the baby she will lose.  Mark tells Doug that he has only been with Jen and doesn't know if he could handle being with another woman.  He does not realize that  Kerry Weaver had a video camera installed in that trauma room to tape surgical procedures, until after they are all gathered around in the room and watch the tape.  He gets embarrassed and walks out.  Iris was in the room with them and he had asked her out, and she still wants to go.  Dr. Hicks tells Benton that he can reap what he sows.  She is referring to having to tell the husband of the man the truth about discharging the patient without even laying hands on her.  Susan takes Suzy to Chloe and gets to meet Joe.  They invite her to stay for dinner and she does.  Chloe tells her to give her a chance, she has really changed this time.  This is hard for Susan to accept.  Mark and Iris end up in bed together.  Shep, Carol and Reilly are on their way down the street and a man throws a brick at the window.  Shep gets out and he attacks the man in the street.  Carol tries to stop him and he turns around with his fist in the air.  She is seeing how violent he can really be.  Doug goes to see his dad, but he is away on a business trip.  He meets Karen Hines, his dad's boss.  Peter gives Dr Hicks his evidence against Dr Vucelich.

NBC Review

CANDID CAMERA -- Weaver allows a videographer, Iris, to document ER procedures as a study guide. Greene is initially resistant, since Iris is a former patient. Ultimately, Greene and Iris share a romantic evening together. Benton's misdiagnosis of a cancer patient lands him in hot water with his colleagues and Hicks. Carter competes with a new surgical intern, Dale Edson (Matthew Glave). Carter's childish behavior leads to Harper breaking up with him. Chloe gains visitation rights with baby Susie.

TV Guide Review

April 25, 1996: Fire in the Belly: Ross treats a traumatized 8-year-old (Kevin Duran) who witnessed his mother's murder; Carter uses deception to get a chance to perform a surgical procedure instead of Harper's more surgically experienced college friend (Matthew Glave); Greene goes on a date.
