Benton
confronts Vucelich regarding the patients that
are being excluded from his study. He
tells Peter that third year residents are too
immature for these types of studies.
Today is Doug's birthday and Susan and Mark
ride the train to go buy some liquor to help
him celebrate. Carter sees them together
on the train and gets the wrong idea about the
two. Benton has not been scheduled in
the OR today, which is a result of his
conversation with Vucelich. Carter
spreads rumors throughout the ER that Mark and
Susan are dating. Benton tells Mark
about his suspicions of Vucelich. Mark
tells him that if he proceed with the
accusations and is found wrong, then his
career will be over. Reilly Brown is 21
and he is a new paramedic. A young man
on a motorcycle crashes through the ER.
Mark buys the motorcycle from him to keep him
out of trouble with his dad. Benton goes
to his office and finds that his things have
been removed. He has been taken off of
the study and people are told that he had
quit. Susan tells Carter that his
attitude towards the patients is not the same
as when he was new to the ER. He has
changed for the worse and is more like Benton.
Mr. Ruby comes to the ER to tell Jeanie that
his wife has passed away and that she is
invited to the wake. Jeanie lets carter
know. Doug's dad, Ray, comes to the ER
to see him since Doug never would answer his
calls. He gives him a birthday card and
some tickets to the Bulls. Loretta and
the kids come back and Mark has to tell her
about her cervical cancer. She may only
have five years and she is worried about her
kids. Benton talks to Dr. Hicks about
Vucelich. Carter goes to the graveside
service of Mrs. Robadoux. He stays
behind so that he can speak to Mr. Ruby.
He apologizes to him and Ruby replies,
"this day isn't about you, Mr.
Carter", and walks away. Susan
tells a patient that his girlfriend has AIDS
even after she requested for her not to tell.
Benton goes up to see the Dean about Vucelich
and waits 20 minutes before walking out.
He tells Walt later about it and he thought
that when the time came he would do the right
thing, but he couldn't.
