Susan wakes Doug up at 6AM to check out little Suzy.  He tells her that nothing is wrong and that she is a healthy normal baby.  John and Harper seem to be getting along a lot better now.  Jeanie and Carol take care of a young 18 year old man who is a psych-schizophrenic.  His name is Josh and he has ran away from his care center for the third and last time.  They have kicked him out and he can not go back.  A young lady brings her sister in after she has passed out and had a seizure.  She had previously been seen at St. Anne's Hospital and released after an ice skating accident.  A woman comes in looking for her husband who had been a victim of a hit and run.  The police run the plates on the car and find out that it was his wife who had hit him.  They run to his room and catch the wife trying to smother him.  Susan finds out that the young lady involved in the skating accident received a toxic dose of laticaine at St. Anne's.  Kerry tells Morganstern about the find and they suggest that Susan write a paper on it and present it at a convention.  Carter arranges for Dr. Benton to get interviewed by Dr Vucelich.  Carter tells Vucelich that it was his fault that Benton didn't get his application in on time.  Benton gets the opportunity to scrub in with Vucelich and he agrees to work for him on the research project that he is conducting.  Carol and Jeanie try to stall Josh long enough to find a half-way house to go to.  Jen and Rachel have been in an automobile accident and they call for Mark to come to Milwaukee.  They tell him that Rachel is okay, but Jen has been injured.  Joshua's mother shows up.  Carol asks her if she will take him home and she tells her that Josh will not go with her.  He had a break down during college and he has never been the same since.  She brought him some sharpened pencils and some money.  He was going to be an architect.  Mark drives Doug's car to Milwaukee.  When he arrives, Jen is being taken to the OR with a hurt leg.  He finds Rachel in the waiting room with Craig Simon, who works with Jen and was driving the car.  His daughter is with them also.  Randi is decorating the ER for Christmas.  Doug goes to dinner with his mother.  He tells her that his dad has called.  She tells him that he must want money.  Carol goes to find Josh out on the streets.  He had left his pencils behind in the ER.  She checks to see how he is doing and covers him with a blanket.  Harper will be going in to the Air Force after graduation from medical school.  They are the ones paying for her tuition.  Carol and Shep are at her home and they are busting out the wall in the living room.  Josh had told her that there is a fireplace in there.  They find it and it is beautiful.  Mark goes to see Jen.  She tells him that she was going to wait until after Christmas to tell him about her and Craig.  He replies, "You fell in love with him?"  She responds, "I didn't mean to".

NBC Review

HITTING HOME -- Just after treating a hit-and-run victim, Greene learns that his wife and daughter were involved in serious car accident back in Milwaukee. Lewis is asked to speak at a prestigious medical conference, but opts to stay with baby Susie instead. In an effort to get a break from Benton's demanding schedule, Carter encourages him to interview for Vucelich's (Ron Rifkin) research project.
