Doug is a hero and the Board is going to give him an award.  Dr. Neal Bernstein is the one who fired him and is now the one who asks him to stay, because of Morganstern.  Doug tells Mark that he is going to stay.  Benton and Jeanie are still butting heads with each other.  A little boy named Alan is brought in by his mother with an Asthma attack.  The mother doesn't speak much English and she tells Carter that she wants a real doctor.  Carter tells her that the boy will be okay.  He gives them a prescription and they leave.  Afterwards, He finds out that he should have checked the boy's ears.  A girl is brought in by her brother after attempting suicide by taking an overdose.  Carol has to force the charcoal down her.  Shep says in front of Carol, that people who take pills to try and kill themselves are for people who don't really mean it.  Carol replies, "I really meant it".  Shep apologizes to her for being a jerk.  We find out that the girl is pregnant and that it is her brother that is the father of the baby.    She later tells Lydia about it and the father is there signing consent forms and overhears the conversation.  He walks out.  Mark sends Doug home because of the way he is overstepping his authority on a patient.  Carter gets to assist Dr. Vucelich on a bi-pass surgery.  Doug gets a phone call from his father that he hasn't seen or heard anything from since he was 12 years old.  Carter tells Benton that Jeanie is divorced.    Susan goes upstairs to see Suzy and her dad is upstairs playing with her.  He tells her that he will help her out by watching Suzy when she has to work nights.  He wishes that he could have been there more for Susan and Chloe.  Harper and Carter are working things out.  She invites him to dinner, but they have to go make a house call first.    Harper goes with him to check the boy's ears, which we find are okay.  The father of the boy and girl who are pregnant comes back to the hospital.  Carol goes to apologize and he pulls out a gun.  He tells her to take it away from him and she does.  Doug doesn't show up for his award ceremony and Mark goes to find him.  He finds him playing pool and he has been drinking.  Mark talks him into coming to the ceremony.  Mark gives up to present Doug with his award and has a lot of nice things to say about him.  Doug gets up and decides the least that he says is the best.  Afterwards, he throws his award off of the building.  Benton asks Jeanie why she didn't tell him that she was divorced.  She says that she is only separated.  Carter and Harper kiss and make up.  Carol comes home to find Shep on her roof ripping off some shingles and making a hole in her roof.  He apologizes for everything.
