The ER is packed full of patients from an overnight gang bang.   The people get rough with Randi and she has to fight back.  She tells Kerry not to tell her parole officer.   A mobile notary  is in the ER looking for Carol Hathaway.  She is signing papers to buy a house.  Mark calls Doug to tell him that he left his Sub Internship papers at his house and that he is coming by to get them, he gets the answering machine.  He walks on in  and Doug comes out of the bathroom.  He is surprised to see Mark there, since he didn't get the message.  Harper walks out behind him.  She has stayed the night.  Mark is upset because she is only a medical student and there are hospital rules against it.  Jeannie Boulet starts her ER rotation today as a Physician's Assistant.  She meets Kerry Weaver and is introduced to Peter Benton.  He acts if he doesn't even know her.  Carol is told that he mobile notary, Mr. Zimble has passed out in the cafeteria.  Peter is in a very foul mood and is rude with Jeanie.  Carter asks Harper out to a concert, but she declines.  She tells him that she has slept with Doug Ross.  He is shocked and upset.  The ER staff has found out that Randi has done time and is out on parole.  They all make bets as to why she was in.  Mark meets Doug up on the roof and they talk about what he saw.  Harper is a third year medical student and Doug should have known better.  Mark tells Doug that Carter was seeing Harper and did he even think of him.  Neil Bernstein, the Head of Pediatrics, tells Doug that his pediatric fellowship is up on December 31st and he has decided not to renew it.  Harper apologizes to Carter, but Carter would rather not hear it.  Carol checks on Doug and he tells her that maybe it is time for him to move on.  Carol's notary crashes before she has time to finish signing her papers.  She takes his hand and his notary seal and stamps the last 2 pages.  He then flat lines and dies.  Doug finds Carter outside shooting hoops.  He wants to apologize to him, but Carter would rather play one on one basketball against him to relieve his anger.  This is the first appearance of Dr Vucelich.  He gets called down by Benton to look at one of his (Susan's) patients.  Carol takes Shep to show him her new house.  It is in very bad condition and is right below the train tracks.  She is very happy.  Shep picks her up and carries her over the thresh hold.
