Doug
sleeps through the alarm and Diane tells him
that he is going to have to leave before Jake
wakes up. Jake is already up and says,
"Two nights in a row, huh?".
Jake is already aware of his mother and Doug
spending time together. Bento tells
Carter and Deb that he will be getting their
procedure books soon so that he can work on
the sub-I evaluations. Carter tells Deb
that he has already done a lot of different
surgical procedures and they still are
competitive. Mark is too cautious with
his patients and he orders a lot of tests that
they do not need. Swift has to cancel
some of his orders. Benton and Jackie go
to see their mother and Peter has to tell her
that she is going to have to go in a nursing
home. She cries. Deb gets upset
when she sees Carter getting to do a central
line. Carter and Mark treat a woman that
might have tuberculosis (TB). Mark gets
a patient that comes in that is 8 months
pregnant; he tells Susan to take her.
Swift finds out and tells Mark that he knows
about what happened to Jodi O'Brien and that
he wants him to present the case in a
conference today. Mark tells him that he
needs more time to prepare, but Swift tells
him that he knows what happened. Mrs.
Salazar tested positive for TB, but she wants
to leave the ER. Mark advises her
against it and tells her that her whole family
needs to be seen and tested. She is
worried and does not want to be put in the
system, because she is probably an illegal
alien. Susan tells Mark that he is going
to scare her away; Mrs. Salazar leaves.
Jeanie rides with Mrs. Benton to the nursing
home while Peter stays behind to work.
Deb gets to scrub in with him to do a surgery,
since Carter messed up one of his other
surgeries by giving the patient water when she
was not to have anything to eat or drink for
24 hours prior to the surgery. That is
one more procedure for Deb to put in her book.
Mark has an entire auditorium of people
waiting to hear his case on Jodi O'Brien.
Mark does very well considering. Deb
bribes Haleh so that she will give more
procedures to her than to Carter. She
works on a drug user that she has a hard time
finding a vein. She decides to do a
central line on her own and loses the guide
wire. She runs out and no one can find
her. Carter feels at fault for pushing
her so hard about the procedure book.
Mark and Susan talk and he tells her that Jen
has left. Susan can't believe that he
waited so long to tell her. She tells
Mark that he should go to Milwaukee and see
Jen and Rachel. Mark calls Jen and
tells her that he loves her. Benton goes
to the nursing home to visit his mother.
Carter goes to Deb's house and there is a
wedding anniversary party for her parents.
They go into the kitchen to talk. She
tells Carter that she is quitting med school.
She is not like him. He cares for the
patients and all she cared about were the
procedures. Deb thanks Carter for all
that he has done. Mark has visitors at
the ER. It is the entire Salazar family
coming in to be tested for TB. When
Susan gets home, Chloe is there in the hallway
waiting for her. She looks as if she has
been homeless. Susan takes her in and
they talk. Susan is glad that she is
okay and asks if she has had any prenatal
care. Chloe tells her that she has a few
times. Chloe is glad that she is there,
she begins to cry on Susan's shoulder.
