Some
one squeals their car up to the ER and dumps a
body out and then drives off. The guy
has a gun shot wound. Dr. Benton is
still working on his mother with a broken hip.
Peter tells the surgeon that he wants only the
best to work on his mother. They take
her up to surgery and tell Peter to stay out.
Carter congratulates Mark on becoming an
Attending. Sean and Jodi O'Brien come
into the ER. She is expecting her first
baby in 2 weeks, but she is hurting in her
stomach and has to urinate frequently.
Mark tells the 30 year old woman that it is
probably just a bladder infection.
Peter, Jackie and her kids wait to hear how
their mother is doing. A boy is brought
in that had been working at his father's
nursery. The boy has insecticide
poisoning. Mark and Deb tell Jodi that
she has cystitis and sends her home with
antibiotics. At 7.15pm, Sean O' Brien
comes back into the ER asking for Mark.
He tells him that his wife is unconscious in
the car and is having a seizure. Mark
takes a look at her and she is stable now.
Susan's shift is starting and she tells Mark
that he can go home, but he stays anyways.
Peter tries to go into the OR to assist with
his mom's surgery, but he gets kicked out and
is told that he better not come back in.
Mark tells the O'Briens that they need to
deliver the baby today. They
discuss names for the baby and they ask Mark
for his opinion. Mark thinks Jared will
be a good name. Mark talks with
Dr. Coburn, the OB attending, on the phone and
she tells him that he can induce labor.
The O'Briens are excited and the mother and
the baby are doing fine. They keep them
downstairs in the ER, because OB is very bust
upstairs. Jodi's contractions have
started and they are about ten minutes apart,
and she is dilated five centimeters dilated.
It is time for her to get an epidural.
At 3.15am, her epidural is wearing off, and
she is fully dilated. The baby's heart
rate goes down to 90 and it should be between
120 and 160. It is time to deliver.
Mark sends Carter to up to OB to get OB
resident Dr Drake and not to come back without
him.
The baby will not
come out and his shoulders get stuck on Jodi's
pelvic bone. Mark decides that he has to
do a c-section. Susan tells Mark that he
should wait for OB, but Mark goes ahead
because Jodi's blood pressure goes to 200/130.
Mark and Susan really don't know exactly what
to do with a c-section. She has two
liters of blood in her uterus. He gets
the baby out, and his blood pressure is 120/80
and the baby is not breathing. Jodi
seizes again and then crashes. Doug
takes care of the baby and he starts
breathing. Dr. Coburn finally shows up
and wants to know what was going on. She
asks Mark what he used to cut her open with, a
chainsaw? Jodi crashes again and can not
be revived. Mark continues external
heart massage until Susan lets him know that
it has been thirty minutes and that she is
dead. Coburn calls the time of death at
6.46am. Mark runs out of the ER and goes
up to Neo Natal Intensive Care to tell Mr.
O'Brien that his wife has died. Sean is
holding his son as he tells him. Carter
tells Mark that what he did was a heroic
thing, but Mark doesn't respond. Susan
is worried about Mark, but he gets on the
train and goes home. He is crying.

that threaten both her life and her unborn
baby's. Elsewhere, a teenager is accidentally
poisoned by insecticides. Bradley Whitford
(NBC's "The West Wing") guest-stars as the

TV Guide Review
March 9, 1995: Love's Labor Lost: What
seems like a routine day in the ER turns sour
for Dr. Mark Greene. Distracted by personal and
professional problems, he misdiagnoses a
pregnant woman and begins a downward spiral of
missteps and questionable procedures that
continues until all present are in over their
heads, panic is thick in the air and, just as in
real life, bad things happen to good people —
with shocking speed.
