Peter has been working for two days straight.
Carol goes to see Tatiana and is told that she
did very well in the interview for fostering
Tatiana. She communicates very well with
her. She asks her if she would like to
come live with her, she replies by asking
Carol if she has a V.C.R.. Dr. Hicks
tells Peter that he needs to get some sleep
before he sees any more patients. She
demands him to get at least 2 hours worth.
A little girl is brought in with a star shaped
burn mark on her hand. The mother said
that the girl had burned it on a radiator.
We find out that the mother had been punishing
her for something and that the mother had been
punished the same way as a child. They
take the child away from the mother and the
mother scratches Doug badly on the neck.
An old man is brought in by a restaurant
manager. The manager is concerned about
the man because he did not pay his $35.00
check. The old man was faking it and
later ripped Jerry off of some of the petty
cash by quick changing him. Dr. Hicks
catches Peter working on a patient with
congestive heart failure. She tells him
again to go get some sleep. The man he
was working on had a Do Not Resuscitate (D.N.R.)
Order, but they did not know until afterwards,
because the man did not have a voice box and
could not talk. His name is Mr. Cline
and Carter takes care of him. He tries
to locate his family, but cannot find anyone.
Carter reads to him and gives him a lot of
attention. Peter does not like this.
Peter tells him that he does not think as a
surgeon and why did he want to be one.
Mr. Cline dies and Carter is upset.
Carol asks Lydia if she would be interested in
being Charge Nurse. Carol is going to
cut back on her hours so that she and Tag can
be foster parents to Tatiana. Benton is
so tired that he falls a sleep while stitching
up a drunks hand. Diane Leeds comes down
to see Doug about the incident with the
abusive mother. He asks her out, but she
says no. She later agrees.
Carol is told that she will not be able to be
a foster parent to Tatiana because she had
attempted suicide last year. Carol is
upset. Benton goes to his mother's house
for the night while his family goes on a trip.
It is the middle of the night and Carol ends
up at Doug's. She tries to kiss him, but
he pulls back. He knows that she is
upset. She asks if she can stay the
night, but he drives her home. Marty, a
psych patient, has been down in the E.R. all
day. He had everyone thinking that he
was a doctor with a plan for a new hospital.
Morganstern tells Mark that he will probably
get the promotion, but that he' s moving to
another hospital and his replacement will have
to approve it. Jen is at Mark's when he
gets home. He tells her that they can
move to Kanosha and that would only be a one
hour commute for the both of them. Jen
wants him to move with her to Milwaukee.
She can not live like this anymore. She
tells him that she is leaving him.
Peter's mother wakes up to get her medicine,
but Peter is so tired he does not hear her.
She falls down the stairs. He rushes her
to the E.R. with a fracture hip.
Everyone asks him what happened, but Peter is
speechless.

NBC Review
OVERTIME, UNDERAPPRECIATED - In order to make
up for time he took off to care for his mother,
Benton works 48 hours straight, which worries
Dr. Hicks (CCH Pounder) and has serious
repercussions for Benton's mom. It also affects
Carter, when Benton becomes even more demanding
than normal. Dr. Greene's personal problems go
from bad to worse when his wife, Jennifer
(Christine Harnos) tells him she may be falling
out of love with him. The AIDS hospice turns
down Hathaway's request to adopt a Russian teen
due to Hathaway's suicide attempt.
