A
woman and her on and daughter have been
brought in. The woman has been severely
beaten and the daughter's hand is hurt also.
Doug is concerned that maybe the woman's
boyfriend, husband or someone else in the
house may be hurting them. He asks the
kids who it might be and they won't answer.
The boy finally gives in and tells Doug that
it is his sister. She has beaten her
mother with a baseball bat because she didn't
like the clothes she had been wearing.
The girl has beaten on her mother for the last
6 months or longer. The woman dies.
Deb and Carter are with Benton and she is
really impressing him. This makes Carter
look bad. He is tired from preparing a
presentation that is due. Peter speaks
with Haleh asking if she knows of any one who
could care for his mother. He doesn't
want her to go into a nursing home. She
suggests a physical therapist named Jeanie
Boulet. A woman is brought in after
attempting suicide by a drug overdose.
Her mother and daughter are with her.
The woman dies after Mark, Carol and Susan try
to save her. Haleh later asks Carol if
it is hard to see cases like that. Carol
tells her that she tries not to think about
it. Haleh then asks her if she had left
a note when she attempted suicide. Carol
responds that she didn't because she couldn't
think of anything to say. A coach brings
in a boy who broke his leg. Doug calls
Tag to to an orthopedic consult. They
find the boy has cancer. The boys father
had died earlier from cancer and the boy is
scared. Doug spends a lot of time with
him during procedures and makes the boy
comfortable. Peter meets with Jeanie
Boulet about caring for his mother. She
wants to know if he can afford her on what he
makes. She lets him know that she is not
a house keeper. A man and a young girl
are brought in. She has been burned and
he has saved her. He has inhaled toxic
fumes while doing so. We also find out
that he has cystic fibrosis which he already
knew about. He is not going to live.
The girl wants to be wheeled into his room
with him. She thanks him for saving her
life. Susan goes to her board review
about the the Vennerbeck case. Lewis
speaks confidently and Kayson gets raked over
the coals. He is told that interns need
to help the residents. Susan feels good
about this, but she is still mad at Mark.
Deb continues to impress Benton with her
photographic memory. Carter still can't
seem to please him. Peter meets with
Jackie about Jeanie. She still wants her
mother to go to a home and Peter thinks it is
because she and Walt want the house.
They can't continue their conversation because
Peter keeps getting interrupted by his beeper;
Jackie walks off. A young man has been
brought in after being severely beaten.
He says he is 18 years old, but we find out
that he is only 15. He is living on the
streets after running away from home.
Doug tells him that he has AIDS and the boy
gets up and leaves the hospital anyways.
This has been a bad day for Doug. He
goes outside to shoot some hoops and ends up
playing with a little boy named Jake Leeds.
He is Diane Leeds son and she works upstairs
in risk management. Diane knows of
Doug's reputation and keeps clear of him.
Dr. Kayson is wheeled in while Susan is on
call. He is having heart trouble.
Susan handles the situation very well.
She asks him what kind of care he would like,
but she has to tube him before he can answer.
She wheels him upstairs to the OR. The
surgeon that is going to treat him doesn't
care what kind of care Dr. Kayson wants.
Susan asks Dr. Kayson and he tells her.
Susan speaks up to the surgeon and tells him
to do as Kayson has requested or she will have
him before the review board and they will have
him fired in the blink of an eye. The
doctor does as she says. This makes
Kayson happy.
