Carter
runs in to work to let them know that he saw a
man in the street with a gun shot wound.
Mark and Carol run back with him and pick him
up and bring him in to the ER. A gun is
found on him and he seems to be a "gang
banger". Mark tells Carter to jump
in and help and Carter intubates him.
Peter rushes in and carries him up to the OR,
but he will not let Carter go with him.
Lydia is having a hard time following through
with her New Year's resolution to quit
smoking, but she is trying. A homeless
man named Gilbert McCabe is brought in by Al
after being found frozen to the sidewalk.
He does not want a black woman working on him,
but Dr. Hicks helps with him anyways.
Susan has to wait on Dr. Kayson before she can
release her patient that came in with chest
pains. He is too busy and has to check
on a patient in recovery. Mr. McCabe has
severe frostbite on both of his feet and can
not feel his legs. He gets to sit in a
warm whirlpool. Dr. Kayson finally sees
Susan's patient Mrs. Davies and releases her
after the long wait. Chloe comes in to
speak with Susan. She has come to say
goodbye. Her and Ronnie are moving to
Texas. Susan tells her that she doesn't
think she should go. She is worried
about where they will stay and tells her how
important it is that she take care of her
unborn baby. Susan gives Chloe her
winter coat and hugs her before she leaves.
As she leaves, she watches out a window at her
walking away in the snow. A fireman is
brought in with severe burns and the rest of
his firemen are with him. A new fireman
has a hard time watching what has happened to
him. Peter and Jackie go for a walk.
She wants to put their mother in a nice home
because of her new job, she is unable to take
care of her. Peter doesn't want to and
Jackie tells him that it is her and Walt's
decision and he won't have to. She tells
him that it can't always be about what he
wants. She and Walt have been taking
care of her for years since her stroke.
Carter tells Mark that he is not getting much
out of Peter and his attitude for him.
Mark tells him that he is going to have to
learn to take it and that most Residents are
like that. Susan takes care of a man
named Mr. Vennerbeck who has been having chest
pains. All of the test results come back
okay and she tells him that it is just muscle
pain. He is upset because it has taken
her hours to do all of the tests. Now he
will have to wait on Kayson to release him.
A helicopter is bringing in a twenty-five year
old man involved in a car accident.
Peter and Carter run to the roof to get him.
When they return to the ER, Peter lets Carter
be in charge of his care. Carter does a
perfect job with him and tells him that he can
scrub in the next morning with him and
Morganstern. Dr. Kayson shows up and
Susan tells him about Mr. Vennerbeck's
condition. He sees that he is fit to be
discharged, so Susan discharges him. Dr.
Hicks listens as Susan tells Mr. Vennerbeck
that he can go. He fusses with her about
how long it took and Susan apologizes.
Dr. Hicks tells her that she does not have to
take that from the patients and they are not
like a bunch of waitresses. A pregnant
woman is brought in high on cocaine and other
substances. She is fully dilated and
having the baby. Susan helps Mark
deliver the breach baby with Dr. Hick's help.
An elderly man and woman are brought in by
their neighbor who found them. They
probably have carbon monoxide poisoning, but
they should be okay. Susan's patient Mr.
Vennerbeck is back. Dr. Kayson comes
down quickly and takes him right upstairs.
Mark gets to tell a patient that she is
pregnant. She starts to cry and Mark
learns that her husband is infertile and so
she must have been cheating on him.
Carter scrubs in with Peter and Morganstern.
Peter tells him how to scrub, since this is
his first time. Carter takes a lot
longer than what is expected, but he finally
scrubs in. As soon as he gets in, he
contaminates himself and is asked by Dr.
Morganstern to scrub out. Linda tells
Doug that she is not ready for a commitment,
but Doug seems to want one. He wants to
be with someone a long time like the two
elderly people have been that came in to the
ER. Carter gets to come back in to the
OR, but Shirley draws a circle on the floor
and tells Carter to stay there. Dr.
Morganstern asks him about a question and
Carter answers it correctly. He then
lets Carter hold the retractor. Susan
and Mark sneak into the cafeteria and he fixes
scrambled eggs. Susan tells him that she
told Chloe that she should have an abortion
and that is why she probably left for Texas.
Mark disagrees and tells her that it is
Chloe's choice. Dr. Lewis gets paged
back to the ER. Dr. Kayson is waiting
for her to let her know that Mr. Vennerbeck
died and that a full case review will be going
on. Susan is in disbelief and watches as
another patient is wheeled in.
