Pilot - Season 8
Pilot
An ambitious and arrogant but also brilliant second-year surgical resident.
This is shown in the pilot when, unsupported by a senior college, he decides
to open a man up to control a bleeding aneurysm, this saves the mans life.
Carter becomes Peters student, Peter gives Carter a hard time.
Season 1
Benton's mother falls down the stairs breaking her hip. She later has a Stroke which Benton finds difficult to deal with, especially when she needs to move into a care
home. Benton meets Jeanie, a married Occupational Therapist, who is working with his mother.
Benton's mother dies, devastating Benton, Jeanie comforts him and they end up kissing.
Season 2
Peter is now a third-year resident. Jeanie and Benton have an affair but soon drift apart. In Episode 039
"The Right Thing", he gets kicked off Dr.
Vucelich's study after confronting him about fixing the study.
Then at the end of Season 2 Jeanie reveals that Al her husband is HIV positive and that Benton should be tested.
Peter is getting Carter more familiar with what it takes to be a surgeon.
Season 3
Benton is now a fourth-year resident. We learn that Jeanie is HIV positive, Benton is not.
Season 3 sees Benton and Carla having a relationship and the premature birth of
Benton's son, named Reese Benton. Reese struggles on Neonatal Intensive Care for a number of weeks before being allowed home.
Benton's relationship with Carla is over, but Benton gradually learns how to be a father and actually loosens up a bit.
Season 4
Peter is now a fifth-year resident. Arrival of English Surgeon Elizabeth Corday makes
Benton's life difficult, he has competition. However after a rocky start they seem to be getting on very well, Corday even manages to get Benton drunk!!
Eventually Benton and Corday get it together, the episodes ends with them kissing following two particularly bad days. However things don't go smoothly for too long, when Corday
receives bad news in the last episode of the series Benton is less than sympathetic.
Season 5
Benton and Corday's relationship is still going strong. However by mid season Corday decides it would be best if they don't go out anymore as they are both so busy, Benton doesn't disagree.
Benton's son Reese has his hearing test revealing that he cannot hear high frequencies, however he might be able to develop normal language with a hearing aid.
Season 6
Much stress with Carla when she reveals that Roger has a job in Germany and they will be moving abroad and taking
Reese with them. After much
counseling, legal proceeding and delays Carla reveals that Roger is not being moved anymore.
Benton asks Cleo out.
Benton and Anspaugh operate on Carter after he is stabbed (weird, it was Carter who Operated on Benton when he had Appendicitis.
Season 7
Has a run in with Romano on more than one
occasion. He even loses his job, until Romano needs someone to head up a
minority hiring/med student issue.
Season
8
Has to deal with the death of Carla and take care of Reese full time with
Jackie's help. After he is sued for custody of Reese by Roger, Peter finds
out that he is not Reese's biological father. Peter decides to quit Cook
County General Hospital, so that he can spend more time with Reese. He is awarded
full custody and gets a job at the same hospital that Cleo is working at.
Peter
returned in the episode "On the
Beach" to attend Mark Greene's funeral.
