Pilot - Season 5 Episode 106

Pilot
Doug is Mark's best friend. The first time we meet him he is drunk after an all night binge. Doug is a brilliant Pediatrician establishing an instant rapport with children, but has a reputation as a womanizer and heavy drinker. Doug has not spoken to his dad since he was 12.

Season 1

We learn of a previous relationship with Carol, which ended shortly before Carol tried to commit suicide, Doug blames himself for this.

Throughout Seasons 1, 2 and 3 Doug dates many beautiful girls, but can never seem to stay interested in one very long always moving onto the next. However it is painfully obvious at times that Doug still has a flame burning for Carol.

Season 2
Doug is becoming increasingly unpopular within the Pediatric department and nearly looses his job. However it is saved following the dramatic rescue of a boy stuck in a storm drain. A camera crew are present and the whole rescue is shown live on TV, Doug becomes a hero and receives an award from the hospital (which he promptly throws off the roof!!).

He gets a surprise visit from his dad, Ray, in Episode 039 "The Right Thing".  He gives him a birthday card and some basketball tickets.  He learns that his father owns a Hotel in Chicago.

Doug is actually focused for a change.

Season 3
Doug befriends a young girl named Charlie who is a runaway.

Season 4
Doug's long standing rocky relationship with his father finally comes to an end in Season 4 when Ray kills himself, his girlfriend and a passenger by driving under the influence.
This prompts a trip for Doug (and Mark for company) to California to sort things out.

Season 4 also sees the long awaited relationship between Carol and Doug restarted, and up to the end of Series 4 things seem to be going very well, Doug and Carol have even got engaged.

Doug's Fellowship is due to end soon, Doug is keen to become the first Emergency Pediatric Attending. His chances are hampered when he performs rapid detox on a baby without permission, however he is later thanked by the babies mother.

Season 5
After a month on probation following the unauthorized rapid detox of baby Josh Doug gets the job as ER Pediatric Attending.

Doug and Carol's relationship is still going strong.

Doug gets in trouble for giving an experimental pain medication to Ricky Abbot (who has end stage ALD).

Gets into trouble (again) for allowing Ricky's mum Joi to control a PCA machine possibly allowing the administration of a doses of opioid analgesic high enough to cause respiratory depression and death.

Doug quits and moves away, Carol does not go with him.

Season 6
Episode 134 "Such Sweet Sorrow" - Carol goes to visit Doug in Seattle after figuring out that Doug is everything to her and her soul mate.
